13 Arcadia My eyes adjusted quickly after putting out the fire. The moon was barely a sliver, but it did a fair job of lighting the way. Boulders, rocks, and underbrush stood out darkly against the white sands, as did the looming outcrops. The motion of Yoonie’s shadowy figure was easy to pick out as well. Yoonie’s sense of direction was fairly solid. Early on I thought she was going the wrong way a couple times, but, when I caught up, both times I discovered she had simply been picking her way around obstacles. I wondered how someone who seemed so normal could be so flawed. Or how somebody so flawed could fool so many people. Smart people, too. Her study, the one that had earned all those headlines, had been published in one of those prestigious medical journals. JAMA, I think? Maybe
