14 Hot Water I awoke with a start the following morning. It was pre-dawn, but there was no going back to sleep. Whatever I’d been dreaming about had jolted the hell out of me. I needed to get moving anyhow. No time for a fire, so I opened a can and ate it unheated. As soon as I finished, I saddled Yazzie and loaded Moe. I hated to do it, but I had to cut Larry and Curly loose. When I headed out, it was due south. Larry tagged along half-heartedly for a while, then turned back for his lazy companion. I needed to go west, but that would have taken me directly to Arcadia. So I figured I’d go south for a day, then cut west again. That should give me a nice, wide berth.
