Chapter 1
Leeyah
“How on earth did this happen?”
Fear gripped my soul as I stood before him, the man who was to become my mate and husband. Matthias, the handsome, proud Alpha of the Darkwolf pack.
He looked me right in the eyes with a heavy frown before throwing some pictures at me. They fell at my feet, showing me and another man in a compromising scene. I stood still, shocked and surprised at what I was staring at. I had no idea who the man in the picture was.
“You are nothing but a slut!” Matthias voiced out.
“I loathe you. Your father made a big mistake. He should be ashamed of you.”
Those cold words hit my nerves, and I fell down to my knees.
“I swear to the heavens, I don't know the man in that picture, Matthias. Please, don't do this to me!!” I cried out.
He wouldn't even listen to me.
“Look here!” he commanded.
He had this dominating stance, and I couldn't bring myself to look up at him.
“I, Alpha Matthias, will never be mated to you. I reject being your mated one - not in this life, not in the next!” he declared in a loud, final tone.
I shivered. What would I tell Father? That I had been rejected, humiliated, and the alliance had been broken because of some pictures I had no idea about?
The whole news still seemed like a puzzle to me. How did I even end up in bed with a strange man, and how were my pictures taken without my knowledge?
I was left in utter confusion as I sank to the ground in tears.
The whole pack was gathered that day in the Grand Hall when it happened. They all looked down at me, some with disappointment, others in anger.
Father would kill me if I went back home. Even though he forced me to be married to this Alpha Matthias, he also explained that the purpose of our marriage was to strengthen the alliance between our packs. And now it was all gone.
How would I face him now?
Matthias wouldn't even look at me anymore. The pictures kept making him furious.
“Take her out of this place. I don't want to see you here, shameless w***e!!”
Before I could utter another word in protest, I felt heavy arms lift me off the ground and onto a shoulder. It was an embarrassing scene and my eyes were covered with tears. They threw me out carelessly, and I landed bare on the floor, pain shooting through my body.
I could have sworn I heard a bone c***k in my body. I clutched my side, biting back a cry.
What have I done to deserve this?
Who did I offend?
If only I had a mother figure, she would have been my next stop after here. It only made me sadder each time I remembered she died giving birth to me.
I couldn't go back to our house. Nobody would accept me.
And my stepmother, Mally, would only make things worse. She hated me, and it was as though she was always disgusted by my presence. For reasons I still don't know, her daughter's mind has been poisoned against me and Kelita behaved exactly the same way her mother did to me.
There is no way those two would ever support me if I approached them.
If only I could find an ally who would plead my case before my father.
I was busy brooding over how my father would feel if he heard the news of the failed marriage when a noise from around disturbed my thoughts.
“Leeyah!” I heard a voice call out.
I looked back and it was a strange lady. I knew her from nowhere. How she knew my name was rather surprising, but that wasn't the case.
“How can I help you?” I asked hesitantly
She scoffed. “Oh…believe me you can't. I wonder why a royalty like yourself would sell herself so cheap to another man,” she accused"
Just when I thought I had heard enough words for the day, this woman wouldn't stop hurling harsh words at me.
“I don't know what happened! Please, believe me,” I begged.
Hopefully she would give me a listening ear compared to what I experienced back in the hall.
“There is nothing you have to say. Do you have any idea what you've done? You have ruined everything your father worked so hard to build.”
“As I speak to you, the news is spreading around that the alliance has been broken. Your father's cherished empire is in shambles and kingdom is now vulnerable to attack!”
“No…that can't be true. If this is a joke, please stop it. I beg of you”, I whispered, shaking my head.
“Don't you know you just ruined the future of your father's legacy?”
“Look at what you have caused the old man,” she voiced out angrily.
“You are a disgrace and a witch,” She hissed before spitting in my face.
I ran into the woods out of fear and shame. I couldn't withstand the embarrassment. I had to look for help. Ignorant of where I was going, I kept going into the woods.
Does this mean I'm no longer heir to the throne? That my dream of becoming the Alpha Queen of Wolfendon Kingdom is over?
For a moment, I thought of father and how troubled he would be, putting him and the kingdom in such a risky situation.
“Are you there?” I whispered to my wolf.
She gave me a nudge in response.“I don't like it here. The atmosphere seems stranger than usual. Let's go back to Matthias or perhaps home” .
“We can't go back. We are not wanted anymore. Think about the shame and rejection. They will hunt me down.” I murmured.
“I have only made things worse for my people,” a tear dropped down my cheek.
“It doesn't feel safe here, Leeyah. Let's just go back,” my wolf warned, but I paid no attention.
I kept walking deeper into the woods, lost in thought, until I heard a sudden snap in the branches.
I looked around to see who it was, but there was no one.
“Identify yourself!” A voice from behind echoed through my ears.
