Chapter 24 Doing A Good Deed

Last night they ate at the hotel restaurant; they choose to eat Japanese cuisine. They plan to shop after their dinner. Suddenly there was a commotion on another table near the entrance. An old lady was lying on the floor, and there's a cellphone and scattered pieces of pills from an opened bottle of medicine. 

Sophia took the bottle and read; it was for high blood pressure patients. 

"Nate, please call 911." 

Nate hurriedly dialed the number and said the address and the details. Then Sophia shout, 

"Is there a doctor present here? 

No one answered. Sophia kneels beside the old lady and shakes her; she quickly checks her breathing, it was faint, and the old lady was half-conscious. She performs CPR, but the old lady was still not stable. 

"Nate, please go to the lobby and ask for an AED."

 Nathan asks, "A what AED? 

"Yes, be quick," Sophia answered. 

Nathan quickly went to the reception area and asked for an AED.

( It is a portable device that helps diagnoses life-threatening having a cardiac arrest. It delivers an electrical shock and helps the heart to restart.) After ten minutes, the 911 emergency team arrives. 

They quickly check and put oxygen on the old lady. 

The 911 team asks, "who gave first aid to the patient? Please come with us to the hospital."

"Ok, Miss will follow right after in our car to the hospital," Nathan answered. 

They quickly put the old lady on the stretcher and push inside the ambulance all the way to"Mount Sinai Hospital." Nathan and Sophia follow the hospital; she opens the old lady's phone and calls someone on the phone call list. 

Sophia dial a number that she sees in the latest call logs. On the third ring, the phone was answered. 

Hello! Please listen first, the owner of this phone was having a cardiac arrest and was treated at "Mount Sinai Hospital" please come immediately. My husband and I were waiting in front of the operating room. Just look for Ms. Sophia Dyson."

"Thank you, mam. I'll be there right away." The man who came was a butler of Ms. Ida Tanaka. 

"Thank you for helping our mistress Ms. Sophia." Can you give me your address and your phone number in case the mistress asks of you? 

Sophia gave their room and Nathan's phone number. They went out of the hospital after she returns the belongings of the old lady. When they were inside the car Sophia look for her bag inside the car. Nathan asks, 

What are you looking for? 

I'm looking for my shoulder bag; my IDs, cards, passport, and cash were in there," Sophia answered. 

"Oh, you must leave it the hotel restaurant earlier when we rescue Ms. Tanaka. I don't see a bag in your body when we go here to follow," Nathan says. 

"Crap, I put it on the table when we ate our dinner. I forgot to put it on my shoulder when I stand up to take a look," Sophia explains. 

"Don't worry; we will get your bag back. I will ask the hotel security and the manager." 

They arrive at the hotel, and Sophia went straight to the restaurant and talk to the manager. Her bag was nowhere to be found. Nate request to look for the CCTV footage; someone took her bag when everyone was busy, it was a man.

Nathan and Sophia went to the police station and reported her missing bag. It was near midnight when they returned to their room. They take a bath and change into sleepwear, and when Sophia's head hit the pillow, she felt fatigued. She rubs her face on Nathan's chest and sleeps like a koala. 

Nathan looks down, and he smiles at her; he sniffs her neck, kisses her forehead, and said "goodnight, wifey, sweet dreams;" he hugs her before closing his eyes to sleep.

The next day Nathan receives a text from Tanaka butler that they want to invite the couple to lunch on the Tanaka estates. They want to thank them for helping their mistress. At eleven in the morning, the doorbell ring, Nathan opens the door. 

"Good morning, Mr. Dyson. My master invites both of you to have lunch." Would you please follow me? 

Nathan and Sophia follow the butler; they travel for an hour. Winter was approaching, so the wind was a little chilly. Sophia hugged Nathan and pressed her body on him. 

"You're cold? 

"A little," Sophia answered. 

Nathan put his jacket on Sophia's body. 

What about you? Sophia ask. 

I'm not cold as long as you hug me," smiling. 

"Shameless hubby," Sophia says, pouting. 

Nathan laughs. They arrive at the place it was in a secluded location in the northern area of the bustling city. The place was full of trees on the side and a bamboo plant, a garden with a gazebo.

 "Please wait here for a while, Mr.and Ms. Dyson. I will call master."

They sat on the sofa, and the man in the kimono appeared along with the other. A large red dragon decorated his chest encircled his shoulder. Sophia looked at the man's tattoo something click in her mind. 

Then she whispered to Nathan, "Yakuza" before now the "Mafia" they had gained over the US for over god knows how long. These men were part of the mafia." Sophia says. 

How do you know about them? Nathan asks.

"I read it on the internet. I don't know if it was true or not, but it seems true. It looked at them," Sophia answered. 

Nathan and Sophia both hold hands and look at each other. All men in the room looked at the couple. The older man walks to the couple. He sat down and lit a cigarette, and blew the smoke in the air.

"It's nice to meet you, Mr. and Ms. Dyson."

"My name is Hirohito Tanaka, the master of the Tanaka clan."

Sophia and Nathan stood up. Sophia stretches her hand, and the older man smiled as he took Sophia's hand for a shake. 

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Tanaka." Nathan extended his hand after Sophia to Mr. Tanaka. 

"Nice to meet you too, Mr. Tanaka. I'm Nathaniel Dyson, Sophia's husband."

Sophia and Nathan both bow in front of Mr. Tanaka. Mr. Tanaka motioned for them to sit down. Mr. Tanaka had a goatee and had a cheerful smile but look serious and fierce. Mr. Tanaka ordered one of his men, "Get the bag for me." 

"Yes, master," the man answered. 

The man arrives and puts the duffel bag in front of Nathan and Sophia. Mr. Tanaka opens the bag; it was full of money. Sophia and Nathan's eyes went wide, and they looked into each other. 

"Mr.and Ms. Dyson, this is my compensation for saving my wife? 

"No sir, please, no offense, but we don't need any compensation or money; a simple meal is enough for us. Thank you for your kind generosity," Sophia said. 

"Hahaha, you are very kind, Ms. Dyson. Here take my card then; if you need any help in the future, you show this card," Mr. Tanaka says. 

Sophia took the gold card and put it in the pocket of her jacket. The butler arrived and said, 

"Master, the lunch was ready," he bows before he leaves. 

"Come, let's eat! Just fell at home."

Did you two eat Japanese foods? Mr. Tanaka asks. 

"Yes, we are; as a matter of fact, we are in the same restaurant with mistress Tanaka when she had a cardiac arrest," Sophia says. 

"Don't be shy; both of you eat whatever you like." Nate, can I call you that? 

"It's okay with me, Mr.Tanaka," Nathan replied. 

How's your job or your business been? Mr. Tanaka asks.

"I was the present President of Dyson Ltd. I take office in California along with my wife Sophia as a marketing and advertising director," Nathan explained. 

"Wow! what a power couple, no wonder you don't need my compensation; you are both successful in your career," Mr.Tanaka says. 

"We are in New York for some misunderstanding with my wife, tonight was supposed to be our wedding ceremony, but we decided to move it to the day after tomorrow as my wife wants to go shopping and explore New York," Nathan says. 

"Congratulations!! hahaha, I like the two of you, enough with the formalities; call me grandpa."

Then came a man and whisper to Mr. Tanaka, he waved his hand, and someone put the shoulder bag on the table.

"Is this your belongings, Sophia? "Check if something was missing. I already punish the man who took away your bag last night," grandpa Tanaka says. 

Sophia quickly pours the contents of the bag on the table. 

"Arigato, Domo Arigato, grandpa, it's complete and intact," Sophia says. 

"Hahaha, you know how to speak Japanese, Sophia? 

"No, grandpa, I just heard it from an anime I watch on television."

"Congratulations! on your wedding. I will send a gift on the day of your wedding." 

They finish their lunch, and they talk in the gazebo. 

"If you visit New York next time, don't hesitate to call and visit us here. You don't need to book a hotel. My estates have thirty rooms, and some of them were empty, and your grandma will be happy if both of you visited us. We had no son and daughters left, so we had no grandson and granddaughter; if only they are alive, they are the same age as you two." It's a long story. I don't want to reminisce, the past."

Can both of you be my granddaughter and grandson? Grandpa Tanaka asks. 

"That...Sophia and Nathan look at each other. 

"We'll talk and consider what you said; grandpa, whatever Sophia wants, I'll follow, "Nathan says. 

When will grandma be discharged from the hospital? Sophia asks. 

The doctor says she will be under three days observation, grandpa Tanaka says. But in reality, grandma Tanaka was already under the underground hospital of the estates; grandpa Tanaka can't reveal it to the couple. 

"It's a pity I can't get to see her as we return to California for our wedding," Sophia said. 

"Don't worry, grandpa, after our wedding, I promise we will both visit you and grandma. I like this place; it's so peaceful."

Suddenly there's an arf, arf, arf. 

"Ipo stopped! the boy of about 7 years old shout came running to catch a puppy. The puppy runs to Sophia and licks her foot. Sophia kneels and picks up the puppy. The puppy licks her face.

"Oh, stop, hahaha, it tickles. What's his name again? I heard you called him Ipo? Sophia asks. 

The boy nodded and was stunned and did not move; he looks at Sophia and Nathan. Sophia gave the puppy to the boy and asked, 

What's your name, little boy.? "I'm not a boy, mam, I am a man, my name is Shiro."

"Oh, Shiro, what a nice name." 

Are you my mommy and daddy? 

Sophia looks at grandpa Tanaka and asks, 

What happened to his parents, grandpa? 

"His parents were dead seven years ago, along with my other family and relatives."

"Gumenasai, grandpa, I should not asks," Sophia says. 

"It's okay Sophia, Shiro was an obedient and bright boy; he was aloof and didn't interact with other people, but I was shocked he approach both of you. If you want, you can adopt him. I want Shiro to grow up with good parents like you two; Shiro will be guided properly; he also has many talents."

"Shiro! Come here! Grandpa Tanaka called.

"You can call her mom and this man's dad."

Shiro was thrilled, and he comes running to Sophia and Nathan; the couple hugs the boy, and they kiss the boy's checks. 

"Mom, Dad, will you stay here with us? His face void with happiness, Shiro asks. 

"That...Sophia looks at Nathan,  he speaks; we will leave for a while, but we will come back after we finish our works." Is that okay with you, Shiro? 

Promise?  Shiro asks. 

"We promise to come back," the couple said at the same time. 

"Pinky, promise! Shiro gestures his pinky finger to Nathan and Sophia and said seal. 

Nathan and Shiro play for a short time; at three in the afternoon, it was time for Shiro to take a nap. It was four in the afternoon when the couple leaves the Tanaka estates. They bade goodbye and went to go shopping. Nathan called their wedding coordinator to  California to reschedule their wedding ceremony to the 30th. The couple was having a good time; they roamed the streets of New York and bought some of the things for both of them.
