Chapter 5 Wedding Anniversary Banquet

Sophia woke up early. Stretch her body and rolled out of bed. She changes into her workout clothes. She does her work out longer as she consumed too much food the last few days. Sophia was in the kitchen when the doorbell rang. Nathan came with a bag of groceries. 

What did you bring? "It's too many. "

“No, it's not; it was only fruits and breakfast for three days. "We are called to report on our headquarters. We will fly to New York tomorrow night." 

"This will be my last mission before my retirement, and this is a confidential assignment, Nathan says. 

"Then it is dangerous? Sophia asks.

"It is," Nathan answered.

"Are Bryan and Jack also... Sophia did not finish what she wants to say.

"Yes, this is our last assignment together," Nathan answered. 

"How long is the mission, and how long will you be gone? Sophia asks face looked worried. "One week, one month, I don't know how long." "We are forced by our grandfather to handle our family business and settle down."

Will you wait for me, Sophia? Will you miss me? Nathan asks. 

"Of course, I will miss the food Sophia says shyly.  Feeling shy while looking at the floor.

"Only the food, you are a foodie," Nathan says. 

"And also and the one who brings breakfast." 

Nathan looked at her, and a mischievous smile bloomed on his face. He reached out his arm and drew her closer to him. He lifts her chin. 

She turns her eyes to him their eyes meet. Nathan took Sophia's hand, slowly raised their joined hands to his lips, and kissed her knuckles.

Sophia feels the electricity from the place his lips touched. She felt her heart palpitating so fast.

Nathan's lips slightly curved up, and he says, "you're blushing."

She was a little lost in herself. Nathan was delighted while he smirks. Looking at her expression, he didn't say anything. 

Nathan broke the silence, "take a bath; you stink of sweat, and you will be late for work;" he smiles. 

Sophia snapped out of her senses. Cover her face while running to her bedroom.

After 30 minutes, Sophia came out of her bedroom dressed in her office clothes. 

"Come sit down and eat breakfast." 

After eating breakfast, they cleaned up, and Nathan drops her off in the company. 

As usual, gossip in the office ring in her ears, but she ignored it all. "Mind your own business" is her motto. 

Lunchtime; secretary Eve knocks on the door.

" Director, these are the names of the two teams you ask for."

 "Thanks, Eve. I look into it later."

 What do you want for lunch, Director? 

"I like to taste Chinese cuisine, let's see on the internet." 

Sophia ordered sweet and sour pork, shredded sour potato, spring rolls, pork knuckle soup, and plain rice. "Accompany me to eat here, and also add what you want."

 "Here, takes my card to pay." 

"Ok, Director."

"After thirty minutes, Eve arrives with the food. Sophia was setting the table. Her phone chimed for incoming messages ting! 

Nathan: Have you eaten your lunch? 

Sophia: I'm about to. What about you? I feel like eating Chinese cuisine. 

Nathan: I've just finished. I'll take note of that. 

Sophia: It's not always. I've just felt like eating this. 

Nathan: Ok, eat your lunch.

Sophia: Ok.

"Why are you looking at me?

"I saw you smiling on your phone." Is he your boyfriend, Director?

Is he the one that drives the Limited Edition Bugatti? 

Is he the one that picks you and drops you off; at the company every day? 

"Which one should I answer first?" I'll answer your question some other time."

"Eat; the food will turn cold."

"Director... there is a rumor about you in the company."

"Don't mind them; ignore the rumors; it's their loss, not mine."

 "I think they're jealous of you, Director because you were promoted fast."

"No, it's my hard work and perseverance and also talent and brains. My grandfather trained me while I was studying in college." "He wants me to study business management, but I like arts, so I took up two majors Finance and Marketing and studied advertising arts." "And he taught me a lot."

So, your family is well off, Director."

"Yeah, but I was only adopted, but grandfather treats me like his real granddaughter."

Tok, Tok, Tok

"Come in."

"Director, there's a delivery for you."

"Thank you, just put it on the table. I'll look into it later."

 After May and Eve left her office, she looks into the contents of the bag. There's a note above. 

It says, My Angel. Wear it later at the party. N.D. 

She kept the note inside the drawer. Inside the bag was a white sleeveless polo, denim leggings, and 3-inch wedge sandals. She sends Nathan a message. 

Sophia: Thank you for the clothes and the shoes. How'd you know my size?

Nathan: I ask Nancy. Is there a problem with the dress or the shoes? 

Sophia: It's fine. I like it. Thank you. 

Nathan: You're welcome. 

For the whole afternoon, she finished her works. A quarter before five pm. She stood up, stretch her hands, and massage her neck. She went into the comfort room, freshen up and change her clothes. She went back into her office and applied waterproof mascara, waterproof brown brow liner, and a twenty-four-hour pink lipstick. She also changed her shoes, tidy up her desk, and locked her laptop and some important documents safe. Suddenly her phone rings. She answered it.

Sophia: Hello!

Nathan: "Come down. I'll wait in front of the company parking."

Sophia: ok, wait a minute!

She picks up her purse and her phone and gets out of her office. After office hours, the elevator was full of employees getting off at work, including the group of ladies who loves gossips. She ignored them as they glanced at her. She walks straight out of the company.

Nathan stood outside facing the car, taking a call, when he saw Sophia walking towards him. He opened the door to the co-pilot seat, and she sits inside; then he got on the driver's side, and they drove off. 

Nathan speaks, "Jack and Liz are on the way ahead of us." Bryan and Nancy will follow later." 

"I'm glad the shoes and the clothes fit you."

 "Of course, it's from Nancy's boutique; she knows my size." 

As they stop at the red light. Nathan speaks, "I would like for us to get to know each other and become more than friends Sophia? 

She raises her eyes. Her eyes meet his deep brown eyes of his. Sophia couldn't help staring at him and stunned. 

Nathan grabbed her left hand with his free hand and clasped his hand with hers. Sophia looks at their hands together with wide eyes. He slowly lifted their clasped hands and kissed her hand without breaking their gazes. Nathan smirked and was satisfied when she accepted him. He looked down and saw their hands, and his lips slowly curl up. 

Their sweet moments were disturbed when they heard the buzzing of horns behind their car. 

Sophia tried to free her hand from him, but he clasped it tightly. She only lowered her head with her face flushed red. She only looked outside the window. 

The deft silence was broken out her senses when he speaks. "Turn on the radio if you are bored."

She nodded and pushed the button; then, the song played in the song's last stanza. If I let you go, I will never know. What my life would be holding you close to me. If I ever see you're smiling back at me. How will I know if I let you go? 

Then another song is played one after another they sing along to the song. 

Jack and Liz were there when they arrive. The two men introduce Liz and Sophia to their comrades. 

Of course, it was full of teasing Nathan. This was the first time he brought a woman beside him. Sophia just smiled beside him. 

When Bryan and Nancy arrive, the teasing was transferred to them.

Nathan brings Sophia to sit down; after a while, the ceremony begins, and the dinner starts. 

There are various foods, but Nathan gave her all her favorites; they ate a lot as we three ladies are foodies. 

After eating we all join at the games. Nathan and I ended up wins the game. 

While we dance, he whispers in my ears. "If we win tonight, you will be my girlfriend; if not, I will be a server at the coffee shop for three days." 

"Ok, you can't go back on your words." After the song, we sat down, and the announcer announces the last game. How will you know each other well? Answer it after the question asked on the paper provided to each partner. Question 1. What are her favorite foods? 2. What is his favorite color. 3.What is her waistline size. 4.What is his shoe size. 5. Is your woman prefer to be on top or a bottom. 

Sophia shriek at the last question, "What the heck? Sophia looks up, and Nathan was also looking at her, lips slightly curl up. 

Then she heard the countdown to five. She wrote top in a hurry to the last question.

The announcer says, pass the papers.

All the other lady companions and us three went to the karaoke and sing. 

While all the men drink liquor, suddenly the announcer announces the winners; we had a tie, another couple win, and Nathan and Sophia. 

All his comrades didn't stop teasing and shouting at us. Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Sophia's face was red as an apple. Nathan kisses Sophia on her forehead. Congratulations! to the winners. The three men got drunk. We ended three women drive the three men home.
