Chapter 13: The Ambush

Sophia's heart was racing as Alex pulled her to the ground. The cabin was plunged into darkness, and the sound of footsteps echoed outside.

Ben whispered, "I'll take care of this. Stay here."

But as Ben moved to confront the intruders, Sophia saw a glimmer of light outside. It was a signal, and she knew they were surrounded.

"Alex, it's a trap!" Sophia whispered urgently.

Alex nodded, his eyes scanning the room. "We need to get out, now."

They crawled towards the back door, but it was too late. The cartel members burst in, their guns blazing.

Sophia and Alex were separated in the chaos. Sophia found herself face to face with Carlos, his eyes blazing with hatred.

"You're a hard woman to kill, Sophia," Carlos sneered. "But this ends now."

Sophia knew she was running out of time. She needed to think fast, or she'd never see Alex again.

Sophia knew she had to think fast. She pretended to surrender, hoping to find an opportunity to escape.

Carlos sneered, his eyes gleaming with triumph. "You're finally mine, Sophia."

But just as he reached for her, Sophia saw her chance. She grabbed a nearby vase and hurled it at Carlos, momentarily blinding him.

She took advantage of the distraction to make a run for it, dashing through the cabin and out into the night.

Alex was waiting for her, his gun drawn. "Sophia, come on!"

Together, they sprinted through the darkness, the cartel members hot on their heels.

But as they emerged from the trees, Sophia saw a glimmer of hope. Ben was waiting, his car engine roaring.

They leapt in, and Ben sped away, leaving the cartel behind.

Sophia breathed a sigh of relief, her heart still racing. They'd made it out alive.

But as she turned to Alex, she saw a look of concern on his face. "What is it?" she iasked.

Alex hesitated. "I think we're in more danger than we thought. The cartel won't stop until they've destroyed us."

Sophia's heart sank. She knew Alex was right. Their love was far from safe...
