Carlos's words hung in the air like a challenge. "Sophia, tell Alex about your father. Tell him about the cartel."

Sophia's heart raced as she tried to think of a way out. But Carlos's eyes gleamed with triumph, and she knew she was trapped.

"Alex, I-" Sophia began, but Carlos cut her off.

"Let me tell him, Sophia. Let me tell him how your father was a cartel member, just like me. How he was responsible for the death of Alex's family."

Alex's eyes widened in shock as he turned to Sophia. "Is this true?"

Sophia nodded, tears streaming down her face. "I'm so sorry, Alex. I was going to tell you, but I was afraid of losing you."

Alex's face was a mask of confusion and pain. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Carlos laughed. "Because she knew you'd never forgive her. And now, you'll never trust her again."

But as Sophia looked at Alex, she saw something unexpected - understanding.

"Alex, please-" Sophia began, but Alex cut her off.

"I need time to think, Sophia. Time to process this."

Sophia nodded, feeling a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, their love could overcome even this...
