CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT
Gilbert pov
I was still angry at all the bullshit Jenny spewed at me in my bedroom during our fight. Leaving seemed like the best option because I didn't know what I would do if I stayed to listen to more of her ranting… I knew I would lose it and probably hurt her. I bent over my knees and grab my hair, trying to calm myself down where I'm seated at the bar. No one is there and the place is quite private.
I didn't feel my temper reducing and I knew I needed to find a solution before I started smashing things on the floor. I looked at my phone and remembered that I was about to call Emory… maybe her voice would help me feel better so I took my phone and thought for a while about dialing her number. What if she ignores me? I wondered as I stared at her number on my phone. I shrugged after a while and called her. I'd just accept it if she didn't pick up the call, but she picked on the fourth ring and I felt really relieved, and immediately my anger began to disappear slowly… I waited for her to say my name or something else but when I didn't hear from her, I started the conversation. She was asleep when I called and I loved how she sounded when sleepy.
The conversation was going well until I touched a sensitive subject and she flared up at me before ending the call on me. I was not mad anymore, I felt guilty this one time. I felt guilty for all I'd done to her, but I knew that even if I apologize to her now, she wouldn't believe me… but it wouldn't hurt to try, I guess. I was going to go to her pack and speak to her and try to make her see that I was really sorry for all I'd done to her because I'd been really worried about her safety ever since that night she said she was threatened. I can't afford to lose her so I have to try in any way I could to protect her from that threat she got that night actually happening to her, whoever it may be.
I stood up and left the bar for my room. As at the time I got there, Jenny wasn't in my room anymore and I was glad that the b***h finally decided to leave before I would make her. I was sure she would have gone to whine and cry to Luca to get his pity and the fool would definitely fall for her schemes too. Lucas was one of my close friends but sometimes I questioned his sense… he shouldn't have chosen Jenny to be the one he would fall for. He'd better not approach me to reprimand me for laying a finger on her because hell would break loose between us both… he wasn't there when she disrespected me as the Alpha and pushed me to the wall, making me lose my temper, she clearly deserved what she got.
I take a shower and got dressed in baggy jeans, a simple t-shirt and a pair of shoes then take my car key and leave, heading for Emory's pack to see her. I hope she's glad to see me… if I'm able to get in.
I finally arrive at the pack minutes later and the guards stop by the entrance, they recognize me at once and let me in once I tell them I want to see their Alpha… one of the perks of being a person of power, if it was a rogue, he or she wouldn't find a way in.
With the description given to me to find Emory's condo, it's easy to spot and I park my car in the lot, outside the building.
I get down from my car and I see Alessandro's car, it is the car he used the night he took Emory home from her party the other night so it's easy to remember and recognize. I roll my eyes as I pocket my car key and move to the door.
He's probably going to want to start a fight between us once he sees me but I don't have time for that. I just want to see Emory.
I press the doorbell but there's no reply, I press it longer this time but still, no one answers. I begin to panic internally as I wonder if she's in danger or has been attacked again inside… but she's with Alessandro, the thought occurs to me.
I press the doorbell two more times but still, no response. I try to open the door and it does, it wasn't locked.
My mind conjures up a lot of wild imaginations… that involve Emory being in danger because it's strange to see a person's door open like that. It only means one thing, the house was burgled; either by robbers or assassins. I quickly rush in and the house is empty. It's my first time in her house and I can't help but admire the whole setup even though part of me is panicking that she may be in danger, Emory is really a woman of taste, I'd always respect her for that.
I begin to hear voices from the room at the far end of the living room like she's laughing and I suddenly feel relaxed knowing she's okay. I head for the place as a part of me guesses she's with Alessandro in there, I guess it could be the kitchen too.
I get to the door and what I see breaks me into a million pieces as I try to understand what the hell is going on. Alessandro's face is dangerously close to Emory's and the chemistry between them is so obvious that a knife can cut it. Aren't they siblings? What are they doing? What is Emory thinking? Am I dreaming? A myriad of questions run through my mind as I watch them like a movie and they don't even see me or notice my presence.
Now I understand how people get easily killed. I'm still watching in dismay as Alessandro stares at her lips hungrily, like he wants to eat her up and she's just there, waiting for her to devour her like a dish made by his favorite chef. Then he suddenly pulls back and teases her, the fire in her eyes increases like he's challenging her and she grabs his collar and pulls him back to her "then the kiss I will get" she tells Alessandro before crushing her lips against his and the exchange gets heated and hungrier between them both while I'm watching like a ghost that's seen something scarier than being a ghost.
I want to believe I'm dreaming but I know I'm not. I drove myself down here to meet her and speak to her, make her understand, and see eye to eye with me but I only brought myself to witness what would probably scare me deep inside. I know I've had enough of what I'm watching or else I'll do something I'll live to regret to Alessandro for touching Emory. I clench my fists in anger as I struggle with the fury building up inside me "what the f**k Emory" I yell subconsciously and my feet start taking me out of the building before I can think… my instincts just lead me wherever.
I hear footsteps coming after me as I open the door to the house and step out. The breeze that whisks by calms me down a bit and helps me catch the breath that I've been holding since I saw them in the kitchen. It was like I was dizzy and hallucinating but I knew I was actually watching it all in front of me, Emory was f*****g kissing her brother! I want to think there was a reason for it but I can't think of anything, I don't want to call her a w***e or slut but I'm deeply hurt as I'm still trying to not see her that way. She's meant to be with me alone and no one else, not Alessandro for that matter!
"Gilbert, Gilbert" I hear her yell my name as she steps out after me. I turn around to look at her with anger and hurt etched all over my face "what the f**k was that Emory? He's your f*****g brother, what are you thinking?" I whisper as I burn in rage…. I'm trying not to yell and gain attention.
"Technically we're not siblings, it's just on paper" she replies with a shrug and I feel a blow to my chest; I'm sure the pattern of the punch is engraved in my heart now
"What?" I ask dumbfounded by her reply
"You're not denying it?" I ask her and she stares at me blankly
"We're not dating Gilbert, and you don't even care about me except my body so don't act like you're extremely hurt by this or s**t. Alessandro isn't my brother by blood so I can do whatever I want with him" she tells me in full-blown defence of herself and I can't believe what I'm hearing.
"I never said I don't care about you" I try to defend myself too but it's weak because I know the only thing I've treated Emory like her whole life is s**t, except when we f**k and we're on the same page at that moment.
"You don't even sound sure Gilbert, and don't forget my promise to you; I'll make you pay for all you did to me three years ago. Don't think cause we f**k, I might change my mind or any of that bullshit, I still stand hard on my decision on making you pay, to make you regret ever meeting me" she says, her anger obviously matching mine as she wags a warning finger as a dazed me.
She places to and fro then faces me, her eyes empty and her lips are in a straight line… I can't read her emotion because she's blank like a clean sheet of paper "Honestly Gilbert, with all the horrible things you've done and still do to people, you do not deserve to be loved. You should retire from people and lock yourself away. I'm sure some people will celebrate your absence because they would have peace of mind at least" she spits at me and walks to her door to go back into her house but she stops and looks at me "and we're done, we never could work" she says and walks in before banging the door on my face.
I can't say I'm hurt, it's an understatement. I've never felt this way before and it's Emory… Rayne that had to make me feel this sort of emotion that makes me wish to be numb, makes me wish to drown my face in a deep bowl of water and pass out for a while so I won't feel this sinking feeling in me.
I just stand there and stare at the door like I've become a mannequin. I can't move, my heart is beating really fast but in pain, I'm speechless and I want to leave but my body won't budge. I stand there for a really long time until I realize it's high time I left before she calls the security on me.
I get into my car and turn on the engine, I just sit there in the car and stare for a while again and questions and random thoughts run through my mind then my pain from Emory's words turn into anger… I shouldn't be loved? There are women that would kill to be with me. She shouldn't feel so special because I go after her. She's replaceable and in no time, I'll be over her quickly like I never met her. I reverse out of the space I parked and speed out of the pack in anger.
She's already getting her revenge on me, only that she doesn't know it but as much as I'm angry, it still hurts so damn much.
What have you done to me, Emory?
