Chapter Forty Seven
Emory's pov
Second thoughts…
That was all I was having after making that decision. Maybe I shouldn't have? Maybe Ruby was right?—heck she always has been. Why then did I not listen to her?
"Best friend, if you ask me, I'd say that meeting him in an enclosed area isn't the best way to tackle this problem. Gilbert is a smart fool and without any doubt, you are smarter than him but that man is really dubious. He can go to any length to tackle an issue and since you would not be going with any of us, I suggest you wait for him to make a threatening move before you do anything. We don't want to give him an upper hand now, do we?" Ruby said to me after I told her about my intentions.
"While I agree that you are right, I just can't sit and do nothing until he does something. I know Gilbert, Ruby. The past few months that I've been with him, studying him is enough to confirm what you are saying but still, I can't sit and do nothing. And knowing Gilbert too, I'm sure he is as confused as I am so why not use the spear while it is still hot? Delaying things had never worked for me and I'm pretty sure it still wouldn't… I have to do this, Ruby"
I heaved a sigh, shaking my head slowly as I replayed Ruby's and my words. If only I had known…
I didn't know why but my heart seemed to be beating fast every time I remember I will be alone with Gilbert in a restaurant I'd reserved for the night. It was startling, the thought of being alone with him In a dark and secluded place but I quickly discard the thought and focused on the makeup I was doing. I also didn't why but I wanted to look my best tonight. For some goddamn reason, I wanted to impress Alpha Gilbert with my look more than I have ever had. I checked my phone and saw that I had an hour to go. The plan, however, was to make him wait for me for a while before I finally arrived. What was it called again?
Fashionably late, yes, that was it! I wanted to be fashionable late. Usually, I was a very punctual person but in this case, in as much as I wanted to make an impression, I also wanted to get back at him in any little way I could for all he once did to me. I finished applying my makeup and then went ahead to select a dress from my walk-in closet. For my not-so-like date with Gilbert, I decided to wear an emerald-colored handless dress that had a cut by the side to reveal a lot of skin which was intentional, too. The past few months with Gilbert helped me realize a lot of things about him, especially about his likes and dislikes of women. What turned him on and what leaves him disgusted. If I must have him wrapped in between my fingers, then I definitely, more like mandatorily have to show enough skin. Gilbert was a sucker for thighs.
So deciding to use his weakness against him,
I put on the dress and wore my heels then stood In front of the mirror to look at myself. I gasped in appreciation when I caught my reflection. I looked like a work of art which somehow boosted my courage. Self-proclamation was part of it for me.
I smiled in satisfaction at my reflection and grabbed my bag. Once I was out of my room, I met Jamal in the living room and he looked up at me. His eyes widened when he took in my appearance before whistling
"wow, someone went all out for this dinner" he teased, causing me to roll my eyes
"it is just to get him to talk Jamal, nothing else" I defended and Jamal smiled
"I didn't say anything Emory" he teased again and I blush before giving the finger
"f**k you," I said and he laughed.
"Not me, maybe Gilbert will," he said and I opened my mouth wide, staring at his guts. " Don't look at me like that. You know it too. Something is definitely going to happen between you both" Jamal added before turning to face the show he was watching on the TV, leaving me glued to the ground, stunned. At that moment, Ruby appeared from only God knows where. Jamal motioned for her to look at me and she did.
Her mouth flared open in surprise too when she saw me "Woah, you look…" she went speechless as she seemed to be thinking about what to say. "You look magnificent, sissssssss" she purred. "I love your dress" she squealed as she bounced up and down while clapping excitedly.
"Thank you, Ruby," I told her as another blush crept up on my face and she gave me a suspicious smile
"Something is going to happen between you too," she said in a high-pitched voice and I rolled my eyes again. "You cannot look this sexy and expect to come out of a secluded room you shared with Gilbert unscathed. The thought doesn't even begin realty" I scoffed.
"Of course not Ruby. Nothing is going to happen, I know my goal and what I set this date for" I told her and she nodded with that annoying smile still on her face
"if you say so alpha" she teased and went to sit beside Jamal, joining him to watch whatever show was playing on the TV. I sighed and took my bag, ready to leave.
"Whatever you guys are thinking, is definitely not going to happen between us," I said once more which elicited a laugh from both of them.
"Whatever you say, Captain, " Jamal said. "Just make sure you use protection to save all of us some explanation and stress." He added but I ignored him and continued walking to the exit.
