Chapter Fifty Three

CHAPTER FIFTY THREE Gilbert's POV I was still seated at the party that Emory… Rayne planned. I was still confused over what to call or address her ever since I found out about her real identity. It was still a big shock to me that the Rayne I knew then is the Emory I know now. Even though I was trying my best to hide it, I was deep down angry and pissed beyond control at myself for falling for her schemes of seducing me all these while I thought she was someone else, only to find out that she was the Rayne, the ordinary omega that I had in my pack years ago. I still couldn't believe she was now an alpha and that she had her own chain of companies scattered across the world. How she got it all in such a short time is really a mystery to me. Rayne was really something different from the usual type of female wolves that flocked around. She was a strong and powerful woman that knew what she wanted and went for it. I would give her that because she had accumulated all of these for herself in such a short time and she was still striving and getting more successful with strong determination. I was sure that if I didn't tighten my saddle and get more serious, she would make my pack crumble to the ground by making us lose over and over again at various awards and recognition. I knew I hadn't always been the best alpha when it came to managing the affairs of my pack. It was Sebastian that did the job and he had always been faithful to me. I didn't want him to lose him too like I lost my former workers that I discarded. I didn't feel bad for doing it though but I knew they were good people and now that Emory had them by her side, it was definitely a threat to me since they worked for me and knew most of my secrets. I had a few of them do some dirty jobs for me some time ago. All these thoughts rushed through my head and I knew deep inside me that Emory, as she called herself now, wasn't a woman to be messed with because she always got the job done and never failed in getting what she wanted so it would be a little task to get back at the people that step in her way. Hell, she even overpowered my supposed father-in-law to be in the last CEO awards show and won it for herself as she deserved, she could do whatever she wanted and get away with it… she was that strong-witted and powerful… but why I couldn't seem to get her off my mind was what was killing me slowly. The fact that she was still having a strong hold on me was crazy. I was still thinking of all the rough and wild s*x we had in the past and just the thought of it alone got me turned on so hard anytime I think about her but I never got satisfied with any woman I slept with in my pack, be it Jenny or any s*x worker or s*x slave. Emory had that much effect on me and it was frustrating that only she could make me reach whatever climax I was craving for. It was also frustrating to know that I was not the only one caught under her powerful sensual hold. Even the men around her at the party were under her effect as they all smile and laugh with her while they chatted like they were under the spell of her beauty and only she could release them. I got the sudden urge to walk over and take her away anytime a man touched her or she genuinely smiled at any of the men surrounding her. I was curious to know what they were talking about even though it was quite obvious that it was just business but I wanted to believe they were flirting with her because my wolf kept howling in my head uneasily and I was uneasy too watching her from where I sat. For a moment, I wished she could glance at me and give me half the attention she was giving other people. I sat at my table and watched in seething rage, as she shared pleasantries with different men that came over to greet her and some that went over to bade her goodnight before leaving but it was obvious that they were all smitten with her and it pissed me off to know that she was smiling that way with other men when she knew I was here and could be watching her closely. I felt like she was doing it intentionally and it vexed me, she should only smile that way with me and only me! Only I should have her and no one else, she can't be touched by another when I was here wanting her close to me. I'm still watching her closely when I suddenly see her walking off to a dark corner and I wonder why she was going towards there so I followed her to know what she was up to. Suddenly I was stopped by Alex who was giving me a hard stony gaze "Get out of my way Alex" I growled at him as I tried to catch sight of Emory but she was gone. "I'm not letting you get close to Emory, I've been watching you all night and how you kept on staring at her nonstop. You need to cut that bullshit and stop acting like she's your property Gilbert" Alex hissed at me while I met his gaze with mine "What I do with Emory is her business and not yours. I'm sure she can handle herself" I shot at him "As her brother, I'm also allowed to handle some things for her" Alex countered and I just rolled my eyes at him. His overprotective front over Emory could be sickening sometimes and I hated it. I wanted to put in his face that whatever I had with Emory was none of his business and he should stop acting like she was a teenager but I didn’t want to get into a fight with him here since it would most likely happen if I keep on arguing with him. There was no point in fighting him since it was only going to paint a bad picture of my company, pack, and reputation in front of these important people and I wouldn't be able to do anything about it afterward so I maintained my cool and pretended to go back to my seat. Once Alex was out of sight, I went back to check on Emory since she didn’t come yet, and suddenly before I could go into the corner, she bumped into me like she was running from something or someone but I quickly caught her immediately. She looked dazed and scared and I wondered what exactly happened in there to make her this way. "What's wrong Emory?" I asked her "Someone attacked me" she replied and pointed at the dark corner. I made to go there and catch the bastard that dared touch her but she held me back "he's gone, he left a long time ago and I didn't see his face" she explained which made me growl in anger as I wished I could find him and bash his face with my fist for touching what was mine. "It actually happened minutes ago, Stephanie told me to sit but I came back hoping I'll figure something out about him but I only got the chills as I remembered it all," she said and rested her forehead on my chest. "I'm so sorry Emory. I should have come sooner. I'm here now… you are safe with me" I said trying to soothe her while she tried to catch her breath and balance. …. The moment I saw that son of a crazy b***h with Emory, I knew something was amiss. I hated how he stared at her and held her in a conversation. Earlier she had dismissed saying she could take care of herself and that I shouldn’t worry about her for she was already out of danger. But I couldn’t help but go back to where Emory sat after that prick left her side, although she paid me zero attention. Once Stephanie was done attending to their guest, she ran over to us and stared at me for a while before turning to Emory "I already called Alex so he'll be here soon," Stephanie told Emory and Emory took a moment before she stood upright, composing herself "Thank you. I was hoping I could get some clues about the person I met but the memories only made me feel like he was there in the dark, about to attack me I ran out feeling quite dizzy from the shock" Emory explained, her face looking haunted like she had more to say but was holding it back. "Of course. We’ll try our best to get the culprit and make you feel better cupcake" Stephanie said and Emory smiled I felt relieved seeing her smiling "Thanks, Stephanie" Alex arrived at that moment looking worried "What happened, are you okay Emory?" He asked frantically and I take the opportunity to explain all that happened to him. Turning to Emory, he scooted down and scooped her into his arms in bridal style. "Let's get you home first," he said to Emory, whispering the last part of his statement so that she alone heard him while he sent Stephanie a knowing look. Regardless, I followed them to their car. I was going to follow them and make sure Emory was fully okay before my mind would be at rest.
