Chapter Eleven Rayne's pov "Get your ass here, Salvatore," Alessandro said as I walked past his office. "Don't you think it's rather disrespectful to talk to a fellow Alpha in that manner? Referring to her as 'your ass'?" I asked him as I walked back into his office. "Disrespectful indeed, I have important news. Are you taking a seat to listen or what?" He asked, lining up documents and big brown envelopes I didn't offer a reply and sank into the seat. Alessandro had been an awesome Alpha, friend, and a big brother to me for the past three years. He had encouraged me to go for a change of name and get a university degree while being homeschooled for a faster and less stressful process. However, he wasn't the one that talked his parents into adopting me and giving me a new life. Somewhere along the way, they fell deeply in love with me, and that's why they adopted me. Even his kid sister that initially hated me, was now so fond of me that she'd even moved into my apartment. Alessandro taught me a lot and had me secretly and anonymously ordained Alpha of my non-existent pack. He, however, had a secret up his sleeve that no matter how hard I pressed in, he just wouldn't let it out. "Here." He handed me the well-documented sheets. "f**k me." I cursed out as I read the headlines. "Gladly." He replied with a smirk while I shoved his wandering hands away from my thighs "Don't read that here or now. Do it in your house, and please make sure Stephanie isn't close by when you will have the documents displayed. It's a level one top-tier confidential document." Stephanie had just become the CFO of Salvatore’s hotels across the country and beyond, and she now had her own fashion company. Stephanie was a sharp bud. She had a keen eye for business and was very smart. She just got her MBA from Harvard Business. She was involved in some of the family's businesses and not fully engaged in the other family business. She was aware and skilled to participate; she just never indicated any interest. The rest of the family had chosen to ignore her non-chalantness. I had a feeling she was more interested than she indicated. She had aligned all her life activities to match the family business and style. She was beautiful, creative, intelligent, and a wonder, just like the rest of Salvatore's. I was optimistic that even if Stephanie saw the document, there will not be an issue, but so there's not much fuss between Alessandro and me, I let it go. The sooner he saw Stephanie as a grown-up lady, the better for him. I checked the document, and there wasn't anything to get riled up about. It was just a random article of someone sharing their distaste for the eating of raw meat. "Whoever wrote this has it all wrong," I said, scrunching up my nose in distaste. "There's an ulterior motive for writing this article." He said, taking the papers from me and stapling them together. "Check thoroughly. Use that burnt brain of yours" he added with a smirk. His biceps contrasted as he clasped the papers down. I watched him add folders to a pile of other documents before returning his eyes to my figure. "Go out with me tonight?" He blurted out of nowhere, his eyes glaring deep into the mine that I almost got weak in my knees. "What's the celebration?" I asked, wriggling my brows at him. "Just like that...I enjoy hanging out with you. Stop acting like it's the first time I'm asking you out on a dinner date, frog-face," He said, and I smile. I also enjoyed hanging out with him. I wouldn’t lie. Alessandro was bound to be alone for the rest of his life unless he got a second chance to get a mate. His first mate died a long time ago, and he never got to meet her. He decided to welcome the idea of falling in love the human way and getting married. Ex Luna Alessia had let him be and stopped bickering about getting an heir when she saw firsthand how he is still battling with the loss of his former mate, and that was why I filled in as his partner in crime because I couldn't afford to see him sad alone all the time. For the good things he'd done for me, that was the least I could do to pay him back. Unless it had to do with me, he was talking just a little, and he suddenly became the less smiling type I'd always known him to be. Over the years, I watched him transform into a shadow of himself, and I was afraid he is only going to get more complicated as he grew older. "Well, since you're asking me out politely, I'd let you pick the venue of our date." I winked at him while he stared at me like I was being hilarious. "You only get to pick the venue of our dates when you ask me out." He said, looking at me intently. My eyes failed to hold his, and I cast my gaze downwards. Alessandro was a beautiful man with cyan blue hair and reddish-brown eyes, a funny color combo, but it was a perfect fit for him. His jaw was perfectly chiseled with spiky stubbles on them. His chest and broad shoulders were one for the shows. He looked like a model for men's underwear. He was hot and all, but I just couldn’t see him past a guardian even though he occasionally told me he was interested in me. The one thing I was grateful for was that he never forced his opinions on me, and he was perfectly fine with my decisions. Hell, he didn't let my refusal affect our friendship or himself, and even though my rejection severely pained him, he didn't show it. I'd been considering going back to my former pack to denounce my membership, and I'll be heading there in a few months to sort things out. Alessandro was aware of my plans, and he'd given his approval and promised his full support, which I was eternally grateful for. Did I just say I'm going there to denounce my membership? No, I was going to the blood moon pack to take revenge "Well, how about I ask you out now?" I asked with pride in my chest. He gave me a skeptical look once over, his nose flaring a bit. "Do so then." He said, gingering me. My intentions were anything but to lead him on into something I know we would never be able to get through with because, for f**k's sake, even I haven't met my mate yet, and I had no idea who it would be. Unlike what happened with Gilbert, I didn't want to get my hopes all high and get disappointed. Although I wanted to be romantically involved with Alessandro, I didn't want to mess up what I have now with him for a future I was not sure of and because there'd a possible chance of a second mate for him. "Would you go out with me for dinner, Alex?" I asked, leaning into the seat. “And oh, you get to pick where we're eating," I added. "No, Rayne, I'm already taking you out for dinner tonight." I was pretty sure half of the Crawler pack saw Alessandro and me as a couple. Well, they couldn't get any more wrong. Humans and wolves alike loved gossiping, so we decided to give them a topic. "Go get dressed. I'll pick you up by seven." He said scrolling through his phone. "Okay. See you by seven." I said, standing up. A few steps away from the door, I turned back and asked"what should I put on?" "Something skimpy and sexy. I wouldn't mind seeing you bare. But I'll prefer it to be within the confines of my eyes alone." "Alex…" "You know how bad I want you, Salvatore. The fact that you have my father's name as your last name doesn't change anything for me. I still want you badly." "Alex…" "It's okay, pumpkin. I'll see you later" he flashed his million watts smile, and before I knew it, I was wet for him.
