CHAPTER TEN
Rayne's pov
Last week, there was an exclusive meeting for all business CEOs and pack leaders, to which I was invited; it was a business-related meeting, and I just had to be invited. The meeting's notification came as a big interruption to my and Alessandro's moment in my bathroom because the head of the organization thought it would be best if he showed up at my house to inform me about the meeting. Asides from living as wolves, we lived as associates with humans, so we ventured into business. And since I now have my own company, it only made sense that I go.
The meeting was to address some business trends and the upcoming award gala. The meeting was to be held in one of Italy's best hotels. Everything had been put into place for Stephanie, Alessandro, and me to travel, but Stephanie insisted on joining Alessandro and me the next day since the meeting wouldn't start for another four days.
Stephanie was Alessandro’s twenty-three years old younger sister and since I was only twenty years old, she was my older sister. At first, my foster parents and Alessandro insisted that I stayed back while Stephanie and Alessandro go to the meeting because the one person I'd been hiding from would be in attendance, but I didn't care.
I was no longer scared of him or the things he could do to me because he could no longer touch me. I couldn't continue living as a coward despite all the things that have happened to me these past years. Over the years, I have changed...changed my name, and a few others of my characteristics. I was no longer the clumsy sad teenage girl that used to be toyed with. I was no longer the helpless orphan: I was no longer the skinny, pored-skin, and ugly malnutrition-ed female wolf as everyone knew me to be. I had worked on myself over the years and became a changed woman. A fine-ass woman with status and sophistication, and I was not about to allow one man to change all that for me.
Three years! It took three years to become this version of me. It took three years of endless training, schooling, and sacrifices to get here. It took the relentless effort of Alpha Alessandro, his sister Stephanie and his mother, ex Luna Alessia, and efforts from all the inhabitants in the moon valley pack to restructure and birth this new me, and I wasn’t going to take it for granted. I wasn’t going to shy away from responsibilities, threats, or some goddamn Alpha. That was something Rayne Maddox would do, not this new me; not Emory Sapphire Infantino Maddox!
Quick reintroduction;
I am Emory Sapphire Infantino Maddox, a new member of the moon valley pack. However, I didn't yet take the oath of allegiance because I was a weird breed. A twenty-year-old CEO, or girl boss, as many would put it. A total no-nonsense person with very little tolerance and patience for unserious people and a girl who breathes vengeance! In a few days, I'd be representing my co-operation in a business meeting for CEOs in Milan along with other billionaires. This means for the first after three years of fleeing from the Blood moon pack, I was finally going to meet the man that treated me poorly like a slave. I was going to see the man that made me beg for death; the man to whom my entire being had been rededicated to carry out revenge!
Earlier today, I got a text from my private investigator saying he’d gotten information on Alpha Gilberto for me. A move I decided to make once I understood fully what it meant to go against Alpha Gilberto. That man was a devil and one I know better than to dine with the devil using a short spoon. But getting a longer spoon was proving to be very difficult. Price, the guy who was to bring information for me was already thirty minutes and if there was one thing I hated, it was to be kept waiting.
“Get over here, brown b***h!” a drunken patron slurred. He is calling out to a topless brunette with nude high-waisted garters and shiny high heels. The brunette just whipped around, giggled, then sipped from her cup playfully and sashayed away, ignoring his drunk rambling.
I had half a mind to leave now and end all deals with him. But as much as I valued my pride, I understood I still had a business to run and plans to keep up with. If I decided to call things to quit with Price now, it’d take another seven days to get around the circle. The worst part was that he could decide to rat me over to Alpha Gilberto if I decided to call it quits with him abruptly. Not like Price wasn’t a trustworthy person, but I’d come to understand that in business, you couldn’t allow one egotistical maniac to ruin it. Although, I knew for a fact Price was making me wait for him intentionally. He was delivering an almost impossible job on an earlier date and he wanted me to sweat it out. Of course, I would…
That was me just wilding, but I knew motherfuckers him.
After ten minutes, Alpha Alessandro signaled me of Price’s arrival with a swift nod across the room. Even in a strip club like this, I must be on high alert. It was an occupational hazard. I turned around and saw him coming towards me, his hands tucked into the pocket of his brown leather jacket, a male’s tank top was peeking from the opening and he had black ripped skinny black jeans on, a wayfarer themed glasses, and a black beanie- not the ideal look for a private investigator and a tech-ist but believe me, that guy was the best to ever walk on the streets of Italy as a whole.
“Emory apologizes for my tardiness. I was unavoidably delayed,” Price said as he sat on the chair opposite mine with the slightest bit of remorse in his gaze.
I shrugged my response. I watched his eyes take in Alessandro's stance, and a faint glimmer of emotion flashed briefly in his eyes before schooling them blank. However, he did tender another apology and insisted on paying our bills.
He handed me a brown envelope, and the first item was the picture of the man I loathed in his glory.
I clearly remember the day I first saw him, and I also remember all the emotions I felt when I had first seen him but most importantly, what I will not forget is how poorly he treated and acknowledged me later.
It's been three f*****g years and counting, but I still remember it all. And as he holds me tightly to himself, his eyes burning into mine and his hands holding my lower back, there's nothing I want more than to knee him in the guts—a start of the many bad feelings I'm going to make him feel.
“You might find this pretty interesting,” Price said, handing me another envelope.
“What is inside?”
“Why don’t you take a look?” he responded with a smug smile.
“No f*****g way” I uttered in disbelief, causing Alessandro to scoot over. His pupils dilated immediately after he saw the item on the envelope.
“Wow” Alessandro couldn’t help but praise.
“Just what I thought” Price chimed, taking another swig of his fruit punch.
