CHAPTER NINE Rayne's pov "Did she get it?” a voice called out from behind Alessandro and me; we both startled, then turned as a woman stepped from the shadows, gliding gracefully toward him in a regal and unhurried manner as was befitting an exalted figure. It was the ex Luna! Queen Alessia arrived in full splendor, robed in the finery of her station. Bejeweled in strings of pearls, she wore a simple dress of pleated linen draped elegantly over her body. Clutches of gold buckled the frock at her shoulders, while the many rounds and bangles she wore clinked musically with the sway of her arms. The setting moon, Limbia, hovered directly behind her, its golden light casting a suggestive silhouette through the sheer fabric of her gown, the narrowing of her waist and the fullness of her breasts and hips leaving very little to the imagination. Even in her old age, the former Luna was the reason for the boners of most young wolves. I didn't know how she managed to pull it off but even after her reign, the former Luna remained flawless and exquisite. "Has she gotten it"? She asked Alex, staring at him expectantly, one perfect arched brow raised in question. With a very wide grin, he replied, "Of course, mother. I'm a great teacher. What do you expect?" Alessandro Mark Salvatore Infantino, Alpha of the moon valley pack, was training me for the umpteenth time. It's been more than two years since I got to the moon valley pack. The past years have been filled with multifarious training for me to harness my powers and master them. According to the Alpha, I will first learn to fight in my human form before proceeding to learn to fight in my wolf, as any skill acquired in both states can come in handy. I was done training in my human form and had just begun to train in my wolf form. Until now, Alessandro’s research about my wolf was inconclusive because no book contained information about me. Although there were fragments of my features that were available, it just wasn’t enough to come up with a conclusion. Today, we were on St. Mark’s Basilica, on the campanile with Limbia as the guiding moon. Alessandro was training me on how to double the wolf and human might. His body was draped in the finest purple silk, clasps of gold pinning the garment on his right shoulder, leaving the left side totally bare. A golden belt fastened around his mid-waist with golden cuffs about five diameters long on both wrists. His feet are adorned in an open-toed T-bar sandal with multiple straps running across the foot, stopping just below his knee cap, in a style designed to resemble that of the footwear of Roman gladiators—a golden silver crown gracing his rich peony hair, just like his mother's. "I am very pleased to see you making great progress. Very soon you would not need your teachers and even me to hone your skills. I’m so proud of you daughter" My new mother commended me with a satisfactory grin. "Yes, mother, I am ready for any assignment. Please let me be of help in the royal court and on the business too," I suggested Former Queen Alessia chuckled. "While I appreciate your enthusiasm and encourage this burning zeal in you, I still maintain that you are not yet ready. When the time comes, you will be able to fulfill your royal duties without letting up completely. Until then, put that zeal in your training," she prodded me. "You might have mastered taekwondo, judtsiti. Wrestling, sense enhancement, and activation but the methods of scribing on business papers and handling royal issues is another class you must take” "Mother, I am ready. I have been training for years now. I know I have mastered my powers. I can even take on Alessandro the Alpha and defeat him!" I insisted "Oh, I see! Perhaps you can take him out on the ring. You sure can't take him off in business. So my child keep practicing and resisting the urge to self-adulate." The queen reprimanded me gently. She turned her back to Alessandro, who was quietly sulking away—Seething from his mother's interference, we were only seconds from joining our lips when she entered. "Let's go somewhere quiet and continue practicing. I won't leave you until you've mastered the one-kick skill." "Alright. Let's go," I said, interlacing our arms together, leaving the servants to carry our training weapons after us. I was dressed in a blush pink floor-length silk garment, fastened at the shoulders with a gold clip. My waist was gridded in a gold sash. My left upper arm was adorned with pearl cuffs, silver strappy sandals on me, and a silver necklace. "Emory, how impressive! You grow stronger and stronger every day. Marvelous! I am proud to call myself your teacher," Tristan, the pack's Beta purred. "Thank you, Tristan. I have you and the rest of my trainers to thank for my growing improvement." I beamed under his appreciative gaze. "Nonsense, your lessons would have been wasteful if the Alpha did not possess the powers to hone them. You wouldn't even have seen the dawn of such a great day if the royal family hadn't adopted you," Olive scorned sternly "I am sure you know who you are talking to, or do you need a reminder? I can help prick your brain a little if it has gone blunt," I said, referring to Olive, my tone changing to anger and authoritativeness in an instant. Both the Alpha and his Beta failed to notice the change in our conversations because they were deeply engrossed in discussing the forthcoming business meetings for all CEOs. Alessandro came over to me upon seeing the scowl on my face. “What is wrong?” “Nothing,” I said, whizzing. "I will leave you to your practice, Alessandro. Tristan, do have a nice day." Olive’s highly sugary sweet voice echoed through our new training area. “you’re going to have to watch out for yourself, Rogue,” she whispered as she turned and walked away with her face contoured in anger and seething. I turned to see if Alessandro or Tristan heard her but the look on their face told me they didn’t. I hummed and smirked, pulling her back by her arm. “While I remain the new princess and heiress to the Infantino dynasty, you remain just a thrown body and a zero option to Alessandro. You are the one who needs to look out my dear; I might have you killed if you piss me any further”
