I was deeply saddened by this thing I had to do, for I had grown fond of miss Rose. But I knew I had to do it, even though it pained me to do so. So I went to her plantation that morning to say goodbye.
We walked around the yard for a great deal of the morning.
"So..." She began. "Will you be returning tomorrow?" My heart sank when she asked me this.
"Forgive me, miss Rose, but I can't."
"Why?"
"Please forgive me, miss Rose, but I can no longer see you." Her face drooped with sadness.
"Why? Have I done something wrong?"
"Not at all!"
"Why then?"
"Its complicated."
"What's so complicated about it? Please tell me what I did to turn you away!"
"You did nothing. I promise you."
"Dont you trust me? I sighed in frustration.
"Yes, of course it's just Helios..." I stopped in mid sentence.
"Helios? Whos that?"
"My friend. We share the plantation." She looked at me confused.
"Oh! I see! You're in love with this Helios fella aren't you?!" I looked at her stunned.
"Absolutely not! He's just a good friend."
"Yeah sure and I'm mother Mary. If you don't want to see me, that's fine! But the least you can do is tell me why! You owe me at least that much."
I didn't know what to say. I stood there in silence.
"Well!. I'm waiting!" She said, folding her arms.
"I don't know what to say except that I do care about you deeply." She shook her head.
"Then tell me the truth." I didn't know what to do. Three things would happen. One she would believe me and turn out to be a hunter. Two she would believe me and still love me or three she would think I'm crazy and cast me aside. I felt a lump in my throat. I wanted to tell her. So badly that it hurt! But I just couldn't risk it.
"Im sorry. I just cant." I said, walking away.
