As the twentieth century rose to be a time of inventive personalities, we went on as before. In the past century I have known loss, ignorance, despair, heartache, and corruption. But I gained so much within my eternity I most certainly would have missed. Such as responsibility, love, and true friendship.
Many things had changed since I had become a Vampire. Laws, government, and people's views. The slaves, though segregated from white society, were free and could now own their own land.
As the century went forth into each new year, things changed. Either drastically or took a great deal of time. But yet they occurred just the same.
But, as things changed, we stayed the same. I've never known any other Vampire but Helios, Rose and, myself. For I had never even thought of or meeting another. But, in the fall of 1972, this was to happen in a strange and particular way.
I was walking down the road one evening and had a sense that someone was following me. I turned to look but saw no one. When I turned to walk again, there she was standing in front of me. She starred with such enchanting eyes that I thought I may have been dreaming. Until she spoke.
"Hello there." I stared at her with caution.
"No need to fear me. I have no intention of harming you. I'm Maylana. And you have something I'm interested in." I knew that she knew what I was and vice versa. But I feared for I've never seen another Vampire other than Helios.
"And what is that pray tell?" She smiled.
"It's more of a who." I looked at her confused.
"Who?" Her smile became wider to where I could see her fangs.
"I believe you know him. He's a very good friend of yours."
"Helios," I whispered.
"You are a bright one! If you would be so kind is to take me to him, I would be eternally grateful to you."
I was in a state of utter shock. I knew then who she was. And I was quite determined to reunite her with Helios.
