"Uncle, can you please let them go?"
Suddenly, a soft and sweet voice broke through the tension.
Gavriel Mason paused and looked down. There stood Lila, her big watery eyes gazing up at him. Her rosy cheeks and round face made her look incredibly adorable. The fluffy little pink dress she wore made her resemble a tiny princess.
For some reason, Gavriel felt his heart soften.
Under the astonished gazes of everyone around, he crouched down and pulled Lila into his arms.
"But they did something wrong. As a little man, if you make a mistake, you have to accept the consequences," he said.
"But... but..."
Lila pouted, looking utterly wronged. "It’s because Uncle bullied Mommy that they acted like this."
Gavriel raised his hand and gently pinched her cheek.
Seeing her so cute and endearing, he couldn't bring himself to scold her further. Fine, for her sake, he would let those two little rascals off the hook this time.
However, he wouldn't let that nasty woman, Monica Davis, get away so easily.
With that thought in mind, Gavriel set Lila down and pulled out his phone.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Monica Davis stood at the front door of Victor Davis's house, her hair tied back in a ponytail, wearing a simple white T-shirt and a pair of jeans.
In just a few days, it would be Helen Davis's birthday. Monica Davis was planning a grand comeback at the celebration, hoping to win Helen's favor and give Sydney Brown and Isabel Davis a good slap in the face.
To prepare, she had done some digging and discovered that Helen was a huge fan of Victor Davis, a world-renowned jewelry designer known for his pieces featuring cloud patterns. However, she had always wanted one but never managed to get her hands on it.
"Hey, is this Uncle Victor? I’d like to request a piece of jewelry with a cloud design," Monica said as she pulled out her phone and dialed Victor's number.
On the other end, Victor's polite and slightly eager voice came through, "Of course, Monica! I have an emerald ring that is the best piece among all my works. I'll give it to you."
After a brief pause, he added, "Just wait for me; I'll come pick you up right away."
"Great!" Monica nodded, hanging up the phone and waiting expressionlessly at the door.
If anyone knew that the person on the other side of the call was the world-class jewelry designer Victor Davis, they would surely be shocked.
…
As Monica stepped out of Victor's house, her phone suddenly rang.
Looking down, she saw an unfamiliar number. Without thinking much, she pressed the answer button and held the phone to her ear.
"Your two sons are in my hands..."
"Pfft! Your grandpa is still in my hands! You liar!"
As soon as the deep, magnetic voice came through, Monica Davis didn't hold back and fired back without hesitation. She was not polite at all.
Then, with a sharp "click," she hung up the phone.
That lying scammer thought he could fool her?
No way!
“...”
On the other end, Gavriel Mason froze, his grip on the phone tightening. His brows furrowed, and his handsome face darkened to the point it seemed like it could drip water.
That damn woman not only insulted him but also hung up on him???
Anger surged within him. Gavriel coldly turned his head, directing a dangerous glare at Greig.
It felt like being targeted by a sharp tongue, and Greig immediately bristled. "You big bully! I warn you, don’t mess with me; I’m not afraid of you!"
"Heh!"
With a smile that didn’t reach his eyes, Gavriel strode over to him.
He dialed Monica's number again.
"You big liar, are you done yet? Let me tell you, not just your uncle is in my hands; your whole family is in my grasp..."
Monica's relentless persistence completely infuriated her.
Just as her strong voice came through, Gavriel raised his hand and playfully slapped Greig on the backside.
"Wahhh, Mommy! That big bully is picking on me! Save me!"
Greig felt wronged and burst into tears,
exclaiming, "Wah!"
"Greig?" Monica Davis's heart sank, and her expression changed dramatically. "Where are you? Who's the big bad guy bothering you?"
At that moment, Gavriel Mason stood up and moved his phone away from Greig. "If you want to see your son, get to the West Hill Villa in fifteen minutes."
His words left no room for refusal, and with that, Gavriel hung up the phone, returning the favor.
"Gavriel Mason?!" Monica Davis gritted her teeth, spitting out the words with anger, "Damn it."
Not daring to waste any time, she bid farewell to Victor Davis and rushed out, hurrying to the West Hill Villa.
"What are you doing? Let my child go!" Monica glared at Gavriel Mason, fury evident in her voice.
"These two little troublemakers blew up my kitchen, and one of them hurt my guard dog, causing significant damage. So tell me, how should we settle this?"
Gavriel raised an eyebrow, narrowing his eyes dangerously.
"How much? I'll pay!" Monica stood tall, defiantly showing her sharp little canines.
"Give her the bill." At this, Gavriel shot a knowing glance at Matthew Carter, who stood behind him.
Matthew, feeling a bit sorry for Monica, quickly handed her the bill while giving her a sympathetic look.
"Hmph!" Monica scoffed, unafraid, as she boldly took the bill from him.
But the next moment, his eyes widened in horror, and his tongue seemed to tie itself in knots. "Fifteen million???"
"Are you kidding me, Gavriel Mason? Why don’t you just go rob a bank?" Monica Davis's face turned beet red as she angrily threw the bill to the ground.
"Cut the nonsense. Are you going to pay up or not?"
Seeing her flustered state, Gavriel Mason felt inexplicably pleased. He took a step closer, pressing her for an answer.
"I... I don’t have that much money."
Monica's confidence deflated like a punctured balloon, her fierce demeanor fading significantly.
"Well then, don't blame me. I'll just keep the three little ones as collateral."
"What?"
Monica's eyes widened in panic at his words.
Clenching her teeth, she resembled a cornered animal ready to pounce, her voice low as she demanded, "What will it take for you to let them go?"
Gavriel squinted slightly, a strange glimmer flashing in his eyes.
He had kept himself pure for so many years, avoiding women altogether. Who would have thought he would end up in this mess, dragged into bed by this shameless woman?
He felt both angry and unwilling, determined to teach her a lesson to vent his frustration.
Moreover, this was a perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. With his protection, he figured that the likes of Sui Qianlong wouldn’t dare to harm Monica and her family in retaliation.
After making up his mind, Gavriel Mason tossed a contract over to her.
"How about this? Sign this contract to be my personal assistant for three years, always on call. Then, we can wipe the slate clean. Otherwise, these three little ones will have to stay behind to work off the debt."
"You... you... you are truly despicable!"
Monica Davis felt her teeth grind in anger, forcing the words out through clenched jaws.
Her fingertips gripped the humiliating "indentured servitude" contract tightly, wishing she could throw it right in Gavriel Mason's face.
