CHAPTER 6: Duke's luck

1080 Words
Duke's POV I admit I had a great time with Shania. Too bad I was not able to concentrate on what she wanted to tell me because my mind is too preoccupied with many thoughts, and that includes George. At the back of my mind, how I wish he was the one that I am with right now. However, I don't want to talk to him. I can see and feel that things are getting awkward when we're together. If I continue to be closer to him, I might screw it all up. I don't want him to know that I am into him, right at this moment. I can't stand when these certain situations will happen. I'm physically strong but I know my heart is not. It's as fragile as something that could easily break when not being taken care of. I knew George from the very start. I know he has all these capabilities of making someone fall for him, and unluckily I'm one of those people. I wanted so bad that my sister will avoid him because I know the cliche of loving someone like George. Most of my common friends became a "victim" of his sweet, dangerous love. After the hookups whatsoever, it will be over for most of them. Funny thing is, they seemed to be okay with it and move on. I don't want my sister to be in the same situation. I might be a bully at all times but she must be the last person in the world to experience hurt of any form. Any known thought of my sister being hurt by someone is pissing me off. "Duke, are you even listening to me?" Shania is now looking at me. I am startled in a moment before I responded. "Uhh, I'm sorry." I managed to say. I can see that Shania frowned a bit but hearing the word "sorry" made her reaction lighter this time. She never told me much of the things that are on her mind but she wanted to stroll around so I accompany her around Bonifacio Global City. I am not really comfortable when walking around public places where many people flock and stroll around. It makes me feel so dizzy when suddenly, someone got my attention. I was able to take a glance at the Tipsy Pig Gastropub and I saw the one that I have been fantasizing all throughout the day: George. He is seated at one of the tables situated outside. He is wearing a plain white, muscle fit T-shirt and a pair of jeans that are matching his sneakers. I slowly swallowed as see his lips touching the tip of that bottle of beer he's drinking now. I noticed that he is alone. Many girls are taking a glance of him but he doesn't seem to care. He is sitting in a crossed legged position while his other arm is rested on the top rail of a seat next to him. His other hand is holding an ice cold beer. "Let's go this way," I told Shania and she seemed fine with it. I pretended not seeing George as we pass the lane where George is sitting right now. I saw his face lit up as he saw us coming near. "Duke! What a coincidence." He smiled, greeting me first. I was able to introduce him to Shania and they shook hands right away. Shania and I agree to join him. We both seated in front of George, good thing the table is good for four people. I ordered two bottles of beer for me and Shania. "Oh, indeed she's beautiful, Duke." George started to compliment Shania as he looked at her. I smiled in agreement. I can see Shania blushed for a moment and shyly smiled at George, too. "My, I am not used to people telling me old jokes," Shania replied. George chuckled. "No, I really mean it. You look stunning tonight." I caught George's glancing at me as he complimented Shania. Please, no. I am melting, ok... "Y-Yeah...told ya, Shan." I can see a weird reaction of Shania as she can't help herself smiling between frowns. "George, I apologize for this lady's behavior. She's crazy at times. How she wanted to be appreciated but when somebody does, she'll not accept it." George laughed and Shania pinched my arm. I heaved a sigh of pure relief. I am not used to his sticky glances. I don't want it but it's turning me on. I hate it! When I returned my gaze on him, I see his eyes playfully locked on mine. It's as if he doesn't want to miss my every reaction and what I am about to say. Why is he like this? He tried shifting his eyes on Shania and tries to pay attention to what she's sharing on him. But seconds later, he'll shift his eyes back on me and gave me a soft, seductive smile. At that point in time, it seemed like I can't clearly hear what Shania is sharing to both of us. I can only hear the beating of my heart that's racing fast because of what he's doing. I tried to shift my eyes downwards because of too much nervousness. "Wow! That's nice!" I laughed as I replied to Shania's blabbering of many topics that she knows. She frowned, folded her arms and moved her body as if facing me, frowning. George laughed out loud. "What?!" I managed to say, unaware to my previous reply. "Really? Is it nice that I was slapped by my best friend because I accidentally told her mom the supposed surprise birthday party for her?! Really, Duke?" Shania sounded pissed. Oh, goodness. I suddenly regretted reacting to Shania's confessions without paying attention first. "Duke, you're supposed to be sounding sorry for Shania instead of saying it was a nice experience." I looked at George who is still laughing. Oh, my, he's becoming more attractive when he laughs. "Oh, yeah...right. Sorry for what happened, Shania." She is still frowning but she eventually smiled because of George's consolation. I am instantly thankful for him, lightening up the mood. He's indeed charming and he can easily talk to someone and blend with them for whatever topics effortlessly. The thing is, he is still not avoiding my gaze and I hate it. If it is flirting as what they call it, then I really hate and love it at the same time.
