If I had known,I wouldn't have gone out with her

My name is Uchenna meaning God's will,am from a small village in Onitsha called Umudei. I am the first Son in a family of Six children (3 boys 3 girls). My parents are both Christians so pass it down to us as they both make we attend churches at least once a week (every Sunday). We live at the out sketch of Onitsha reason being that it's where my dad's office is located and we live at the quarters. Before you get to our residence, there are two body of waters you must pass so we always cross the bridge at Marine. On the left side is the famous Niger river while on the left is a combination of Nkisi river (a popular river in Igbo land) and Omambala river ( a river indigenous to the people of Anambra East and Ayamelum local government Area of the state). Growing up,there's this phrase my mum always uses while referring to our people 'stone don't swim'. I always find it offensive whenever she drops that comment because I don't understand how Onitsha must have migrated from the coastal part of Igboland(West) to her present location and still unable to swim or her people are not just interested, aren't they curious to explore the river Niger that every tourist clamours for?
