Chapter 3

"Mrs. Pinecroft, oh, no, Miss Morley. I only just realized that resignation letter was submitted by you. Mr. Pinecroft does not seem to have noticed either. Do you need me to remind him and have him withdraw it?" "No need. If he does not bring it up, then neither should you." "Then are you really leaving in a month? Miss Morley, you are the manager of the company's advertising department. If you leave, what will happen to the company?" "Once I leave, it will not affect the company in any way. Do not worry. Your president will find a way." After hanging up, Reina was just about to deliver the divorce papers when the office door was suddenly kicked open and Isaac stormed in, his face full of fury. "Reina, what did you do to Nina? Why did she resign?" Reina frowned. "What resignation? I have not seen her. How would I know why she resigned?" "I saw her resignation application this morning. She still has not come to the office. As her supervisor, you actually do not know?" Isaac grabbed her chin and demanded fiercely, "Last night I thought you had really accepted it. I did not expect you were just lying to me. How could you be this heartless? Nina's father is already dead. She has no home to go back to now. If she loses her job too, where are you expecting her to go?" His grip on her chin hurt badly. Reina looked at the obvious anger in his eyes, but her heart hurt even more. She and Nina had submitted their resignations at the same time. He had approved hers, yet he cared this much about Nina's. Enduring the pain, Reina spoke with difficulty. "I do not know. If I did not do it, I will never admit to it!" "Still refusing to admit it?" He flung her chin aside and said in a deep voice, "Someone, lock Reina in the company storeroom." "What did you say? Isaac, have you forgotten? I have claustrophobia!" Reina looked at the man in front of her in disbelief. Back when they got married, she had once been accidentally locked in the hotel dressing room. After Isaac found out, he had tried smashing the door with a chair and failed. Then he had shattered the glass of the fire hose cabinet beside it and, without a second thought, taken out the extinguisher and smashed the door open to rescue Reina from inside. At the time, his hands and arms had been covered in glass shards, and both of his hands had been drenched in blood, yet he had still held Reina tightly in his arms. "Reina, this is my fault. Do not worry. I will never let anyone lock you up again!" But now, just to find out where Nina had gone, he was going to lock her in the storeroom. He clearly knew that she had been through something terrible before, and that the thing she feared most was a storeroom! "If I do not punish you, you will never learn to be afraid. What are you all standing there for? Do it!" The moment Isaac gave the order, someone immediately rushed out of the crowd and locked her inside the storeroom. The employees outside were all stunned when they saw it. "Oh my God, what is wrong with Mr. Pinecroft? He used to care so much about Miss Morley. Why is he so furious today?" "Is that not obvious? Mr. Pinecroft is doing this for Nina. Everyone says that girl is involved with Mr. Pinecroft. Looks like it is true!" "No wonder. Miss Morley is too pitiful." "Has Mr. Pinecroft fallen for someone else? Miss Morley is so outstanding, and he still ended up liking someone else?" "Are men not all like this? Especially a man as rich as Mr. Pinecroft?" ***** Inside the storeroom, Reina felt it becoming harder and harder to breathe. She pounded on the door with all her strength. "Open the door! Isaac, let me out!" She had severe claustrophobia. It was a psychological scar left from when her stepmother had locked her in a storage room when she was a child.
