In all honesty running through the trails usually helps clear my thoughts.
Today though there seemed to be no peace for me.
My usual easy going demeanor was changing at an alarming rate this summer.
The tress became blurs as I pushed my muscles harder than I thought possible.
Strangely enough there was no aching pain as I ran.
It had to be that our birthdays were getting closer.
Maybe my wolf would appear sooner and the changes in my body would take place before my brothers did.
“Hah. I guess I can still joke.” My deep voice had also appeared over the summer and continued to surprise me.
“Luke!” Someone was yelling from behind me.
Some how with out looking like a complete fool I managed to come to a stop and not crash into any trees.
Real cool.
How on earth did I think I would be an “early bloomer” when I could barely manage moving without injuring myself.
Are guys even supposed to be so clumsy?
“LUKAS?”
Now that was a voice that hadn’t deepened yet.
It belonged to my best friend, Nicholas.
He was a few months younger than us and would be meeting his wolf in March.
“Hey what’s up, Nick?” I asked casually and very proud of the fact I was not at all out of breath.
“Why the heck were you running so fast? I thought I would never be able to catch up to you!” He was about five feet five inches and still holding on to the hope that as his birthday approaches he would shoot up a couple of inches like I did.
His blue orbs narrowed in my direction as he scanned me and his blonde hair was shaggy and wet with sweat.
Had I really been going that fast?
“And why do you keep getting taller as the days pass? Life is so unfair. You don’t even want to be muscular and tall and look at you now. Meanwhile I look like a damn toothpick.” Nick continued his rant.
I glanced down at my arms noticing for the first time what he had mentioned.
It did indeed look like I had been working out every day straight for like a year.
My biceps were bulging and the little bit of extra weight I had gained the school year before was replaced with what might have been a six pack if I dared count them in the mirror.
“Are you even listening to me? I swear lately you have been so weird.” Nick’s statement was honest.
Once again I found myself a little butt hurt by someone’s honesty
The sun was setting and the temperature was dropping fast, not that it bothered me.
“Sorry man. I don’t even know how to begin to explain the weird stuff going on with me.” I genuinely felt bad for ignoring him after he’d run all this way out here after me.
His eyes narrowed once again but he seemed to accept my apology because he started speaking once again as we headed out of the park’s woods.
“Hunter and Luna were caught going at it by her father and the guy flipped out on your brother!”
What?
That was definitely the last thing I had expected him to tell me.
If I remember correctly Luna’s parents were omegas.
The assumption that she would soon be omega was not too much of a stretch.
Ironic that her parents would name her Luna after our second highest pack member when she would most likely be on the opposite end of that.
“Let’s head to my house and find out what happened first hand.”
With a quick nod Nick began sprinting beside me and I found myself really having to hold back to stay with him.
Hunter possibly being disciplined should have me concerned for his well being but I found myself grinning the whole way home.
