1. The Omega everyone doesn't yet see
I lowered my head as everyone stared at me.
Their whispers followed me across the training grounds like shadows.
"That's her."
"The Omega girl."
"I heard she's attending the Bonding Ceremony tomorrow."
A burst of laughter erupted from a group of young she-wolves nearby.
"As if any Alpha would choose her."
Heat crept up my neck, but I kept walking.
I had learned long ago that responding only made things worse.
In the Silver Moon Pack, rank was everything.
Alphas commanded respect.
Betas enforced order.
Gammas protected the pack.
And Omegas?
We existed at the bottom.
Invisible when convenient.
Blamed when things went wrong.
I tightened my grip around the basket of freshly washed training uniforms balanced against my hip.
The scent of pine drifted through the air as warriors sparred in the distance. Their growls echoed across the clearing while spectators gathered to watch.
None of them noticed the girl carrying their laundry.
None of them cared.
"Aria!"
The sharp voice stopped me.
I turned to find Beta Clara striding toward me.
Her silver hair was pulled into a severe knot, and her expression was as pleasant as a thunderstorm.
"You're late."
I glanced at the basket.
"I finished washing the warriors' uniforms and—"
"I didn't ask for excuses."
I bit back a sigh.
"Sorry, Beta Clara."
"Take these to the ceremonial hall. Every chair must be polished before sunset."
My shoulders sank.
"Yes, Beta."
As she walked away, I shifted the heavy basket and headed toward the centre of the pack.
The ceremonial hall stood proudly on a hill overlooking the village.
For weeks, everyone had been preparing it.
Tomorrow was the Bonding Ceremony.
The most important night of the year.
The night wolves discovered whether fate had chosen their mates.
My stomach twisted.
Most girls spent years dreaming about the ceremony.
I spent years dreading it.
No one expected anything from an Omega.
Especially not one like me.
I had never shifted properly.
My wolf was weaker than everyone else's.
Even after turning eighteen, I could barely maintain a partial transformation.
The pack elders often looked at me with pity.
Others looked at me with disappointment.
Sometimes I wondered if fate had forgotten me entirely.
By the time I reached the ceremonial hall, the sun hung low in the sky.
Golden light streamed through the tall windows.
Rows of polished chairs lined the room.
White flowers decorated the walls.
Everything looked beautiful.
Perfect.
A celebration for wolves destined for greatness.
I didn't belong here.
As I placed the basket down, a strange chill swept through the room.
I froze.
The hairs on my arms stood up.
For a brief moment, I could have sworn someone whispered my name.
"Aria..."
I spun around.
No one was there.
The hall was empty.
Silence greeted me.
Slowly, I shook my head.
I was imagining things.
Stress.
Nothing more.
Yet as I resumed my work, an uneasy feeling settled deep inside my chest.
Tomorrow would change everything.
I didn't know how.
I didn't know why.
But for the first time in my life, fate felt awake.
And it was watching me.
I worked until my arms ached.
By the time I finished polishing the last chair, the sun had disappeared behind the mountains.
The ceremonial hall glowed under the light of enchanted lanterns hanging from the ceiling.
Everything was ready.
Everyone was excited.
Everyone except me.
As I gathered my supplies, voices drifted through the open doorway.
"...the Crown Alpha arrives tonight."
I paused.
"The future Alpha?"
"Of course. Who else?"
Excited laughter followed.
I moved closer without meaning to.
A group of young she-wolves stood outside, their faces glowing with anticipation.
"I heard he's even more handsome than the portraits."
"I heard he's already defeated three rogue Alphas."
"My cousin saw him last year. She said every girl in the room couldn't stop staring."
The girls giggled.
I rolled my eyes and continued packing my things.
The future Alpha.
Kael Ravencrest.
Every wolf in the kingdom knew his name.
Strong.
Respected.
Feared.
The heir to the Silver Moon throne.
The wolf destined to lead every allied pack one day.
Someone like him would never notice someone like me.
And honestly?
I preferred it that way.
The less attention I attracted, the better.
Unfortunately, fate seemed to disagree.
As I stepped outside the hall, a sudden gust of wind swept across the courtyard.
The scent hit me instantly.
My knees nearly buckled.
What was that?
It wasn't pine.
It wasn't earth.
It wasn't any scent I recognised.
It was stronger.
Warmer.
Something that seemed to wrap around my entire body.
My heartbeat accelerated.
For a brief second, a strange ache spread through my chest.
A longing.
A pull.
Then it vanished.
Just like that.
I stood frozen.
Confused.
"What was that?"
The feeling had been so intense that my hands trembled.
Maybe I was tired.
Maybe I was imagining things.
Yet something deep inside me stirred.
Not physically.
Not emotionally.
Something else.
Something ancient.
Something that had been sleeping for a very long time.
I hurried back toward the Omega quarters before darkness fully settled over the village.
The last thing I needed was another reason for people to stare.
By the time I reached my small room, the moon had risen.
I changed into a simple nightdress and sat beside the narrow window overlooking the forest.
Tomorrow.
The word echoed through my thoughts.
Tomorrow was the Bonding Ceremony.
Tomorrow every unmated wolf would gather before the Moon Goddess.
Tomorrow fate would decide everything.
A nervous laugh escaped me.
As if fate had anything planned for an Omega.
I climbed into bed and pulled the blanket over my shoulders.
Exhaustion quickly dragged me toward sleep.
And then I dreamed.
I stood in a forest I had never seen before.
Silver mist curled around ancient trees.
The air hummed with power.
Ahead of me stood a woman dressed in white.
Her hair shimmered like moonlight.
Her eyes glowed with an unnatural silver light.
I couldn't see her face clearly.
Yet somehow she felt familiar.
"Who are you?" I asked.
The woman smiled.
A sad smile.
"The time has come."
My breath caught.
"What time?"
"The seal is weakening."
I frowned.
"What seal?"
The forest suddenly trembled.
The woman's expression darkened.
"They are coming."
Fear shot through me.
"Who's coming?"
Her silver eyes locked onto mine.
"The ones who have hunted your bloodline for generations."
The ground shook violently.
Branches snapped.
A deafening howl echoed through the forest.
Then the woman spoke the words that made my blood run cold.
"When the Alpha rejects you, everything will begin."
I woke up gasping
.
Moonlight flooded my room.
My heart hammered against my ribs.
Sweat covered my skin.
For several seconds, I couldn't breathe.
The dream felt too real.
Far too real.
Slowly, I sat upright and stared out the window.
The full moon hung high above the forest.
Watching.
Waiting.
And for the first time in my life, I was afraid of what tomorrow might bring.
