Kian's POV
“No, no, no, no, NO! NO! NO!” I slammed my palm on the steering wheel repeatedly, as I watched the i***t I was chasing run into werewolves territory. “Damn it!”
“Now what?” My wolf Kai demanded in my head. “Remember the treaty–no Lycan's in their territory, no werewolves in ours. You cross that line, you're asking for war.”
“Thanks for the reminder Kai!” I snapped. “But there's no way I'm letting that werebear slip through my fingers. I'll just have to dash into their territory and dash out before anyone notices,” I told him, and slammed my foot on the accelerator. “I'm going to enjoy ripping him apart– slowly,” I smirked darkly to myself.
I knew the risk in driving into werewolves territory, not that I was scared they'll attack me, I'm actually scared of the damage I'll do to whoever attacks me, because I'm sure as hell not going to let them off easily, and to do that I need to try and not draw attention to myself.
But it seems fate had other plans, as my phone began to ring from the back seat. I threw it there after I had an argument with my girlfriend on the phone.
“This better be good,” I muttered as I saw the name displayed on the screen. I leaned over to grab my phone, while keeping one hand on the wheel. “Zeke better have a damn good reason–”
“Look out!” Kai roared in my head, and I snapped my head up in time just to see a woman who wasn't there about two seconds ago on the road.
“s**t!” I slammed on the break as quickly as I could, the car screeching to a halt just a few inches from her. “Phew! That was clo–”
The words had hardly left my lips when the woman suddenly collapsed on my car, leaving me stunned for a minute.
“You've got to be kidding me!” I growled in frustration, as she fell to the ground and laid there. “The car didn't even touch her!”
“I know,” Kai said in my head. “But you need to check if she's okay.”
“Hell no!” I protested. “This is a setup, Kai. Have you ever heard of people pulling ‘car accident' trick to trap a rich guy?”.
“This doesn't look like a trick to me,” Kai argued. “She must have passed out from shock or something.”
“Now you're a therapist?”
“Just shut up and go check on her,” Kai retorted. “Unless you want someone to spot her lying unconscious on the road and they come sniffing around, and guess what? You're going to have way bigger problems than a werebear.”
“Fine,” I grumbled, and got out of the car. “Hey!” I called out to her while keeping a safe distance, and glancing around to see if there's anyone coming.
“Are you okay? You just–,” I sighed, and ran my hand through my hair. “My car didn't even touch you, you know? I need to be somewhere urgently-”
I stopped mid sentence as my fingertips brushed against her skin, and little zaps of electricity coursed through me.
“MINE!” Kai growled and took back control while I was lost in thought. He brushed the strands of hair that covered her face, and gently caressed her cheeks as he growled MINE.
“Th- this can't be,” I stuttered, and shifted backwards, tripping in the process. “This is impossible.”
“Snap out of it, Kian!” Kai snapped. “She's ours. Now let's take her home.”
“A werewolf?” I muttered more to myself than Kai. “The moon goddess is–”
“Smarter than you,” Kail interrupted. “Now quit thinking.”
I looked over at the unconscious woman, and just that look seems to throw out the window all my sense of reasoning. I pulled my coat and wrapped it around her body. If I'm going to take her to Blackshadow, I should at least mask her scent before someone sniffs her out.
I placed her in the backseat, reversed back, and sped off to Blackshadow.
“Oooh I can't wait for Zeke to find out,” Kai said happily, as soon as we drove into Blackshadow's territory.
“No, you're not going to do that,” I warned. “Not until I figure out how to deal with this.”
“You're such a killjoy,” he whined.
“I’m just being rational, Kai,” I told him. “We're being mated to the same species we've been at loggerheads for over two centuries. We need to handle this carefully.”
“So, now you're worried about politics, and being rational?” Kai questioned. “Where was your rationality when you tore through werewolves territory chasing a werebear?”
“Touchè,” I muttered, and Kai retreated to the back of my mind, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
I quickly mindlinked the Pack's physician.“Tim, I need you at my condo. It's urgent.”
“What's going on?” He inquired.
“Just get there. I'll explain later,” I said.
“Alright. I'm in the area though,” he said. “I'll meet you there.”
Pulling up in my condo, Tim was already waiting outside with his medical bag in hand. Without wasting time I stepped out of the car and carried in my arms, while ignoring the sparks coursing through my veins, and Kai having wild thoughts.
“Not a word,” I warned as Tim parted his lips to say something.
He raised his hands in mock surrender and just followed me behind as I carried her into the condo.
“The couch would be fine, or do you want to take her to your room?” He asked, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
“Funny,” I said amidst gritted teeth, as I laid her on the couch.
“The room would be more comfortable,” Kai protested but I just ignored him, and allowed Tim to check on her.
While Tim got to work, I couldn't stop myself from pacing about. My mind was coming up with over a million scenarios on how this thing could go wrong. I was one who prided myself in keeping my emotions in check, but in less than how many hours of meeting my mate, I'm not so sure anymore.
“Everything's fine,” Tim's voice pulled me out of my thoughts. “She just needs to rest, and she'll be fine in a few hours.”
“Are you sure?” I asked, failing miserably to hide the worry in my voice.
“Yes, she is. But you're clearly not,” Tim said, giving me a questioning look. “Care to explain why you're acting like you've been struck by lightning?”
“I'm fine,” I told him. “Are you sure she's fine? It's barely twenty minutes since you checked her.”
“What's up with you man?” Tim asked, his brows etched in a frown. “Who is she? Your mate?”
I froze.
“W- what?” I stuttered, and silently cursed myself for sounding so guilty.
“She is, isn't she?” Tim said, a smirk spread across his lips. “Well that explains the pacing and over protectiveness. I'm happy for you man,” he smiled at me genuinely. “But I still don't understand why you're restless, unless it has to do with Sandra–”
“It's complicated,” I blurted out, running my hands through my hair.
“How complicated are we talking about?” Tim asked with furrowed brows.
“Try, ‘the moon goddess mated me with a werewolf' complicated,” I muttered, and took a seat.
“Oh, s**t,” Tim's eyes widened, as my words suddenly made him realize she's a werewolf. “That explains why she smells different. So, what are you going to do now?”
“I’ll have to reject her.”
“Are you insane? This bond isn't some bad Tinder match, it's sacred,” Tim whispered harshly.
“This bond was doomed from the beginning, can't you see?” I responded. “Apart from the fact that werewolves and Lycans aren't exactly buddies, there's also Sandra. I can't break her heart.”
“Do you even hear yourself? Sandra is just a random girlfriend–”
“Sandra isn't just some random girlfriend,” I cut him off. “I love Sandra, and I made a promise to make her Luna. I'm not breaking my promises.”
“Yea, sure. Our ever benevolent Kian,” Tim mocked.
Before I could respond, a knock came on the door. “Kian? Babe? I know you're in there.”
“s**t!” I cussed under my breath. “Tim take her to the bedroom.”
“What?”
“Just do it!” I whispered harshly, even though the condo is soundproof and Sandra can't hear anything, I couldn't stop myself from panicking.
“You do realize Sandra's not stupid, right?” Tim said. “How exactly do you plan on explaining this?”
“I'll figure something out!” I snapped.
“Fine,” Tim said flatly, and was about carrying her when I stopped him.
“Wait! Just take her shoes to the room. I'll carry her myself.”
Tim's brows shot up, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips, but ignored him and scooped her into my arms, zaps of lightning surging through me, accompanied with the scent of fresh rain and lilacs wafting into my nose.
“Mine!” Kai growled possessively, taking control.
“Shut up, Kai!” I snapped internally, forcefully taking control, and trying my best to ignore the sparks as I carried her to the room.
“I'm sorry about my outburst earlier,” Sandra knocked again. “Can you please open up?”
“I can't wait to see this blow up in your face,” Tim said as I laid her on the bed, and covered her with a blanket.
“Shut up, and keep an eye on her,” I retorted, grabbed a cologne, and sprayed it on myself, before heading for the door.
As soon as I opened the door, Sandra threw her arms around me. “I'm sorry babe,” she murmured into my chest. “I overreacted earlier. Can we just…talk?”
“There's nothing to talk about. Your outburst was valid,” I kissed the top of her head.
“You sure,” she broke the hug, and looked at me with doe eyes.
“Positive.”
“Thanks babe,” she hugged me again, and we just stayed in each other's embrace for about two minutes before she broke the hug again. “You look tense. Is something wrong?” she asked, searching my eyes for clues.
“I'm fine,” I lied. “I was just looking for a document.”
“Did you find it?” She asked. “I can help you look,” she said, stepping inside.
“There's no need,” I said, grabbing her by the waist and slowly pulling her back towards me. “The document isn't that important, let's go.”
“Are you sure everything is okay Kian?” She asked, looking at me suspiciously. “If you still want me to apologize about earlier–”
“Everything's in the past now,” I interrupted, peppering her neck with kisses to distract her. “Right now, I just want to spend time with the woman I love.”
A faint smile spread across her lips. “I love you too.”
“Let's go to the Pack house, I need to give a report to my Dad,” I told her and led her to my car, and we drove straight to the Pack house.
