Summoning 2.12

Sorrel paused to think about it. There was no glyph for flowers. The closest was treasure. Though Sorrel figured since the human buildings were complicated, a sign for directions which translated into guidance and then the nature glyph. As Sorrel followed his thoughts, he quickly laid out his design and then nodded to himself in satisfaction. “Huh, nature, treasure, guidance.” Kayad leaned over and read. He nodded and then quickly designed his own in a swift motion. He used the symbols for Shadow, Knight, and intelligence. It was an interesting combination and not what Sorrel would have picked. Then Sorrel looked at his own selections and realised that the interpretations intended were limited by the available glyphs. “oh, oh you guys are so decisive. Mmm I’ll use nature, guidance and intelligence.” Peter waved his hands as he looked from Kayad’s to Sorrel’s design then back again. “EH, just use the same, it’s fine.” Paul responded quickly drawing out two circles based on what Peter had chosen. “Right, like this. I’ll take them up to the teacher.” Peter bounced up and grabbed the four papers before he hopped over to Dr Northwood. Dr Northwood looked the designs over and then nodded. Once all the student’s designs had been okayed Dr Northwood stood up and said, “Alright let’s go to the Quad where you can all perform your summons.” They trooped out to the quad and as they walked Sorrel glanced up at the darkening sky. “I’ll have to pay more attention in meteorology. I could have swore predictions were for a clear sky today,” Sorrel muttered. “Oooh, is it going to be a thrill. Friday the 13th charm?” Peter suddenly said as he skipped along. Sorrel wondered if there was a reason that the pixie couldn’t just walk. Or rather why he seemed to be perpetually bouncy it was a little disconcerting. “Is there something special about the date?” Sorrel asked puzzled. Was it another human thing where this day was more special than another day? Like at the end of the year when they start dressing trees with tinsel and lights? “Yes, it is a day of horror, terrible things might happen.” Peter nodded enthusiastically as he spoke. Sorrel frowned; it was strange for one day to be more horrible than another particularly one not related to any major planetary event like the turning of the seasons on the waning of the moon. Sorrel turned his head to look at Kayad to see if he had more information. Kayad had become his first thought when it came to understanding strange human trends and once again Kayad didn’t disappoint. “It’s nothing but human superstition, based on a horror movie.” Kayad responded to Sorrel's look. At last, the summoning started, and it was the usual bag of attribute shaped animals. It got a bit dicey when the Djinn in class summoned a polar bear but thankfully the matter was settled fairly quickly. When Peter and Paul had their turns, they summed a Peony Ostrich and a Rose Emu, the two long legged birds liked to try and twin their heads around the pixies. While in place of what should have been feathers were the soft petals of their flower. The Peony was a striking three coloured variety, while the rose was a gentle yellow. Plant elemental familiars were actually quite rare since the nature glyph actually more often was used to mean the inherent qualities as opposed to a representation of plants. Kayad’s turn was both spectacular and low key. Just as Kayad activated his summoning thunder cracked overhead thus when the portal opened everyone expected a great panther or beast. Instead, a long eared black kitten in a white butlers’ coat with a monocle appeared. It looked over the crowd and then flicked its two tails before leaping onto Kayad’s shoulder. It was far more graceful than it should have been for its size. When Sorrel walked forward, he looked at the cute but dignified kitten on Kayad’s shoulder and hopped for something of a similar size. It would be adorable, and he could take it with him everywhere. Sorrel placed the spell circle down and recited carefully. When the portal opened, he felt a large portion of his mana being pulled in, as a result one of the flowers in his hair flicked out and drifted above the portal before dissipating in a mist of blue flecks. The drain immediately stopped and as Sorrel’s mana rapidly recovered the flower reformed in the same place. *Master let’s make a contract* The voice echoed in Sorrel’s head and corresponded to a massive presence. As Sorrel determined that her summon had sucked an excess of his power, he became a little sad. It seemed he would have a giant summon and would have to keep it away not talking with him. It was a little depressing. As if in sympathy in the final moments of the portal’s formation a second clap of thunder sounded, and the sky opened to pour rain so heavy that even a meter in front was impossible to see. Amongst the blacked shadows a vague shape appeared and then disappeared. Sorrel looked around until a small impact hit his chest. He looked down and blinked in surprise. *It is just size; it doesn’t matter what form I’m in. I feel it will be more interesting to follow you closely. *
