The downpour stopped as suddenly as it began and Kayad quickly moved closer to Sorrel. Kayad had thought that like last life they would face a massive dragon that would send the faculty members into a panic. Instead like his familiar Noir, it seemed that this time Sorrel’s had adjusted its size. Dr Northwood approached Sorrel to check his familiar.
“A plant dragon. I might have figured a dragon would come up with the combination of guidance and treasure, but I have never seen one that was a living plant.” Dr Northwood examined the familiar which was about the same size as Kayad’s kitten.
“Have you determined a name?” Dr Northwood asked.
“Sephiroth. Sephy for short.” Sorrel replied. Kayad felt his lips twitch still the same flavour it would seem. No one asked why that name thankfully or they’d think that Sorrel was even less creative than Kayad. Kayad had asked last life and was told. ‘Because it was a cool character in one of the scenes of the screen with the same colour hair as me’ had been Sorrel’s answer. Better to let everyone think that Sorrel had played the game and liked the villain than to have the other know that the name had been chosen just because the character in the had had Sorrel’s hair colour.
Though Kayad supposed that it was somewhat appropriate in that Sephy’s entire colour scheme was in line with the boss character. Luckily, since Sephy came out small this time the botany teachers didn’t come to make an identification thus having the little guy registered as just a plant dragon as opposed to more accurately a nightshade dragon.
The face was closer to a fox’s than a typical dragon with wide purple eyes. Leafy quills fanned out from along the brows to the head and fell into a mane in a pale silver while the smooth petals that coated its wings were a rich black with whit tips. Around its throat was a vine formed into a lavender coloured lace choker with three black berries, its nightshade fruit grouped together to the left of its neck. The long tail was the same length as the rest of its body and curled around Sorrel’s neck. The leaf scales along the rest of the body and down its four legs were emerald green. Still there was no real resemblance to a regular animal in its form.
“Oh, it's so adorable. Is it a boy or a girl?” Peter dared go forward as he hopped from one foot to another trying to get a better look.
Sorrel glanced into Sephy’s eyes for a moment and then said, “it doesn’t have a gender like humans are used to, but it would accept being referred to as her.”
Kayad nodded as Noir leaned forward to sniff at Sephy’s face.
*Ah, my love is still the sweetest. * Noir murmured to Kayad as she settled back on her haunches on Kayad’s shoulder.
Kayad wasn’t sure the reason but his contract with Noir had been maintained despite his rebirth. She had been more insistent and knowledgeable about Sorrel’s situation than Kayad would have thought possible. Until he realised that his cold-hearted homicidal feline had a crush the size of the moon on Sephy. However, since Kayad had gotten his act together too late then Noir had similarly not had the chance for her romance.
*Don’t you f**k it up this time* Noir hissed and snarled under her breath for a moment before she laid down again. *Slowly, slowly stalk the prey. Hunt it cleverly and it won’t get away. * She murmured as she closed her eyes looking all the world like an adorable plush dressed in Edwardian butler style.
“Can she pull on a seeming?” Kayad asked as he subtly shifted to block Peter’s attempts to touch Sephy. So long as he and Noir were the only one that touched them with any concentration it would be possible to keep the other students from realising that they were poisonous. Though what a lovely poison it was.
Kayad shoved his musings aside, for the moment with a seeming illusion on it would be quite difficult for others to have direct contact with Sephy, and since it was just Sorrel’s hair that was poison to the touch, and it tended to get out of the way on its own there should be no chance for anyone to try and make personal trouble with Sorrel. He’d been suspended pending investigation not long after this the first time and Kayad would be damned if he’d let anyone try that a second time.
If someone did manage to get poisoned by Kayad. More than just the light nausea that the ogre and the mage had inflicted on themselves Kayad would have to kill them anyway for bad touches. Sorrel hadn’t learnt enough to give proper consent at this time so anyone who tried anything untoward deserved everything they got and whatever Kayad could do to them once he caught them. If they were lucky the authorities would get them first if not hehe.
“Yes, whatever, it's just a forest lizard. It’s not even pretty colours.” Aleana complained as she came over with her cloud leopard. “Though Kayad your kitty is so dignified.” Aleana sidled up to Kayad and battered her eyes while subtle trying to push Sorrel aside. Kayad merely shifted so that he ended up casually leaning on against Sorrels side with no way for Aleana to insert herself.
“Personal preferences. Noir likes to be cute, so she is probably satisfied to have an equally cute playmate.” Kayad said off hand before he turned away. With his arm still draped over Sorrel’s shoulders he led the way out of school after Dr Northwood dismissed the class.
“Remember over the weekend you need to complete the contract with your familiar so you can talk to them.” Dr Northwood finished as they left.
“Ah? Was there a special process for that?” Sorrel whispered.
“Just requires acceptance from both parties. Typically, the familiar doesn’t take the initiative.” Kayad responded as they grabbed their bags and left for the day.
