Rides 3.15

1080 Words
Sorrel looked down at the entrance to the amusement park and blinked. It looked like a swarm of colours. “Ah, that’s a lot of people.” Sorrel muttered. “It’s always like that, trust me. Once the gate opens it doesn’t take long for the line to clear. Then once you’re in there it totally doesn’t seem like there were that many people,” Ella replied as she took snapshots of everyone in the group. “Yes, yes, everyone remembers to pair up. Try to stay together but if you do get separated at least stay with your partner.” William added as he swept a look over the group and assured himself that everyone was in a pair. Sorrel walked next to Kayad as they exited the monorail and followed the group to the end of a line. They chatted as they waited in line until they reached the entrance and had their bags checked before they headed in. The group gathered around the map but couldn’t decide where to go first. Sorrel looked at the long list of rides and made the logical suggestion. “The map is round so let’s just start with the first ride on the right and go round the park.” “ah?” Ella asked. “It’s a good idea. You can just see every ride and people can decide to ride or not as we get there.” Kayad supported and the rest of the group followed along. The first roller coaster was white with a long corkscrew pattern in the middle. Sorrel pulled the chest strap down and settled it firmly. There was nervous conversation amongst the group as the carriage crawled to the top of the tall peak. As it crested the top light blocked Sorrel’s eyes for a minute and then they rolled down the hill, picked up speed and whipped into the corkscrew. Sorrel gasped and then started to laugh at the rush. He’d never be able to move this fast and it was a thrilling feeling. Coming down from the first ride and he was hooked Sorrel immediately bounced towards the next ride. Kayad followed faithfully as they lined up and then entered the next ride. This was a suspended roller coaster. In pairs they strapped in and then the ride launched rolling them forward to face the ground and they raced off. After that was the sky drop, raised into the air and the free falling down the sensation was interesting, and it took a few minutes to get his balance when Sorrel hopped off but then he was off again. The water cruise was slow with a surprise ‘mythical’ creature displayed in each area with automated movements complete with a dragon right at the end as the boat slid over the cliff and splashed down in the end lagoon leaving them sopping wet. On it went until Kayad finally dragged Sorrel into a café and he paused to look around. “Where did everyone else go?” “We lost them at ride five, couldn’t handle the chain.” Kayad responded as he put a large basket of chicken pieces and a box of cheesy bacon loaded fries on the table followed by a slice of very fancy looking cake and two bottles of juice. “Oh, so are we meeting back up?” Sorrel wondered. “I’ll text them when we are leaving,” Kayad responded. “Okay.” Sorrel smiled and dug in. once they finished eating it was back into the fray. Sorrel enjoyed the music of the live show even if he couldn’t really see much beyond the shape of the floats. The live show was also good. He would have to watch the movie it was based off later to see how close it came. Before he knew it the sun was setting, and they were getting ready to leave. Sorrel had promised to be back before it got late and so they couldn’t stay for the night show. As they looked through the souvenir shop Sorrel walked around the store once. He looked at the bags. The towels but no matter what he checked he always came back to the 1.5 metre tall brightly coloured bird that was a replica of the backing from the suspended roller coaster. In the end Sorrel gave into the urge and bought the bird. Suddenly glad that they had carpooled to get here so there was an actual car to take it in. “That’s what you're getting,” Ella asked as she stared at the large brightly coloured bird. “I really liked that ride.” Sorrel hugged the bird as he exited happily following the crowds to the monorails to go back to the car park. *** Kayad let Sorrel move ahead with Ella, Victoria and the pixie twins as he turned to the checkout and brought the alternative colour of the same bird. He needed to commemorate the date after all. Though he would have to be careful about how he called it. After all he didn’t have a title yet and he didn’t want to cause any future troubles. Only happy memories. As they walked Kayad swept a look over two small groups settled on the raised garden beds outside. His father was getting overprotective there was no need to send a detail for their day out. Kayad kept a sedate pace at the bag as Jasper and Daylen astutely moved in front of him. He didn’t really care if Sorrel noticed they had the same bird. Realistically Kayad gave it even odds that Sorrel would just assume that they had both really enjoyed the ride and so wanted the plush. It was completely believable that Sorrel would think nothing else of it since he clearly hadn’t when he’d bought his own. Kayad couldn’t say the same for Ella though. She would be guaranteed to think too much about it. While Ella making assumptions didn’t particularly bother Kayad especially since she had shifted her attention away from the weird delusions she'd had about him, it would be an issue however if she said anything to Sorrel that adversely affected his decisions.
