Sorrel was suddenly glad for the quick rundown of important people that Jasper had given him on the way back as he looked around the main floor.
The Riven time base was well designed. The contrast between it and the other dilapidated warehouse stark in comparison. The second floor unlike the open space of the first floor was separated into distinct areas by the furniture and low walls. To the right of the stairs Sorrel had used to come up from the first floor was a sort of bar area. A breakfast bar came out from the wall beside the stairs and stretched into the room before turning slightly at the end. The far wall behind the bar was entirely glass and overlooked Saige park while between the bar and the glass was a series of tall tables with stools around them. Seated at one of the tables was the Kobold called Manuel that Jasper had said had been the most worried about Al. He looked remarkably calm now though as he sipped at a can of coke while he flicked his eyes from Sorrel to the far side of the room. Two fridges and a freezer rested against the far wall.
Next to the bar area and further along the right side was a lounge or theatre area. Sorrel couldn’t say for certain since his knowledge was based on what the family who lived with humans had relayed to Grandpa Oak about the normal state of buildings. Sorrel had been told more times than he cared to think about, that he needed to have all the common knowledge of things and even if he didn’t understand them, he should be able to name them and pretend to know. Absolutely was not allowed to let the humans think he was ignorant. The wall of the lounge-like area was dominated by four large TV’s. Below the TV’s was a long cabinet with a series of several white, black and grey with bright coloured ends rectangles that Sorrel thought were game consoles he’d seen ads about them, but Grandpa Oak had not included them as essential knowledge just the frivolous pastimes of youths.
On the left side behind the low wall Jasper had used as a spring to cross the room was two overstuffed armchairs beside a small table with a power board built into it. Two lamps stood behind the chairs. Up from the chairs was a large table surrounded by chairs with a heavily marked map splayed across the table, past the table was the stairs that Jasper had taken Daylen up. Lastly, directly opposite Sorrel against the far wall beside the stairs mostly hidden in the shadows stood a man. His eyes glowed in the dark as he stared across the distance at Sorrel.
If Sorrel considered that fact that apart from the four members whose positions, he knew and the fact that of the six executive members of Riven Time that stayed in this warehouse the Sidhe Dimitri was rarely present Sorrel had to assume that the man on the other side of the room was the boss Kayad.
Sorrel shrugged slightly to himself at the fact that despite the many minutes he had spent gawking at the area Kayad had not moved or said anything. Instead of wondering of the mysteries of the minds of others Sorrel started across the room but slowed his steps when Kayad moved out from the shadows to meet him.
Black hair with faint silver ends fell lazily to his shoulders and his eyes were a vibrant green as they remained focused on Sorrel. Kayad wore black jeans with additional beading at the knees with a high-necked leather vest that had a crusader's cross attached at the collar. Black leather pirate boots encased his feet and folded over about two inches just below the knee. As Kayad came to a stop a smile teased at his lips and he held out a hand. “I’m Kayad, leader of Riven Time.”
Sorrel paused. Damn he didn’t remember if there was a special greeting thing to be done with hands upon first meetings. He vaguely remembered something being mentioned but that the Unseelie lord who was reluctantly recruited by Grandpa Oak kept saying that the human didn’t dew this or that anymore. “I’m Sorrel, here to help your friend.” Holding his hand out in return Sorrel prayed that Kayad would finish the greeting on his end and he’d be right.
Kayad reached out further to grab Sorrel’s wrist as his smile widened. Bending slightly Kayad kissed the back of Sorrel’s hand. “Charmed. Allow me to show you the way.” Kayad then released Sorrel’s hand and placed an arm over Sorrel’s shoulder and turned him to head towards the stairs going back down. Sorrel pondered as he was turned, he felt sure that kissing that hand was one of the greetings that the unseelie had said was out of fashion but maybe he was mistaken. Still, he was sure it was the common greeting so wondered why Kayad had done that.
From the corner of his eye Sorrel realised that Jasper and Daylen had at some point come back down the stairs. Frowning slightly as he walked Sorrel contemplated turning his nature sight back on but really it was a bit inconvenient in some ways to have it on all the time since it took all the colour out of things. They continued down in silence as Sorrel contemplated. When they reached the basement landing, he recalled that the normal greeting for the moment at least in western societies was to shake hands. As that thought registered Sorrel turned his head to look slightly up at Kayad and prepared to ask about his actions only to be interrupted by the forceful snarl and crash as Al still in wolf form slammed against the door to his holding cell.
