Chapter 5

Millie and Tristan read the note, shocked. After six years, he was back—but the real question was: how did he disappear for six years, and why was he back? And he was obviously stalking Audrey.
Millie and Tristan didn’t want to ruin the party for everyone else, so the three kept this quiet—at least for now.
“Let’s try to enjoy this celebration,” Millie said in a somewhat tense tone.
Apart from the fact that I was being stalked and looked like a deranged psychopath, today would hopefully be at least a decent day. X better not cause any more disappearances or try to kill anyone. But knowing X, he/she won’t stay quiet for long.
Tristan walked away to grab a small bag. With what little information we had on X, we only put X’s stuff in bags and labeled it “X.” We would make a case file, but of course, we didn’t have much information about this person.
Tristan came back with the note in a bag. He only did that because Millie and I were convinced we would get possessed if we touched the note. Well, I mean, we touched X’s notes before and nothing happened, so I guess we weren’t that convinced.
I looked around, noticing everyone was eating the food that my other coworkers made. I was sick to my stomach over this X situation, so I didn’t eat at all. I know it probably looked rude, but I wasn’t going to force myself and then probably vomit afterward.
Static!
The three of us turned our heads. It was the walkie-talkie.
“Dispatch: We got a call about a murder on Elm Street.”
Some of the other officers looked over when they heard it.
“I bet it was from X,” one of them whispered to the others.
“All right, here’s the deal. Officer Robbins, Millie, and Tristan will go, and I want any evidence you find there. Understand?”
“Yes, ma’am. We understand,” Officer Robbins said firmly.
“Here’s the case file,” Audrey said, handing it to Millie.
She opened it.
Case File:
Name: Rhea Fletcher
Age: 30
Was found dead by her two kids, ages 10 and 11.
“Oh my God,” Robbins said, putting her hand over her mouth. “That must be horrifying for two little kids to find their mother dead.”
The three went to their cars and got in. Millie and Tristan were together in one car, and Officer Robbins was in her own cruiser.
Sirens blared down the streets as the three cops rushed to the scene.
They arrived and got out of their cars. The door was open and ajar. They opened it to find Stacy in the middle of the living room, lying on the carpet in a pool of blood.
Her two kids were huddled in the corner, crying.
These poor kids.
