Episode 1
Katherine's POV
“Damn those foolish rogues!” I shouted in a frustrating voice as I hurriedly scrubbed the dried blood from my face and hands in the bathroom. There was yet another attack on the pack, and though we had come out on top, we had lost far too many good men.
I stared at myself in the mirror, brows furrowed as I tried to figure out what to do next to stop these relentless attacks. We couldn't keep living like this, constantly on edge. Something had to be done.
Just as I was patting my face dry with a towel, a knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. "Who is it?" I snapped, not in the mood for visitors.
"It's me, Edwin,” came the muffled reply.
I sighed as I put on a clean jacket. Running my fingers through my damp hair, I opened the door. "What do you want, Edwin? It's late," I asked bluntly, not inviting him inside.
"Alpha Katherine, I am sorry for disturbing, but the Elders are here and they are requesting to speak with you," he informed.
Of course they did. They always wanted to talk after a fight, picking apart our strategy or offering useless advice.
"What do they want?"
He shifted uncomfortably under my gaze. "They didn't say. But they seemed...concerned.”
I rolled my eyes. “Aren't they always?”
“What should I tell them?” Edwin asked, his gaze curious.
“Lead the way,” I muttered and immediately followed him out, straightening my shoulders.
Edwin led the way to where the Elders were gathered, and I followed him in silence, my mind a blank slate. When we reached the door of the meeting hall, Edwin gestured for me to go inside. I paused for a moment, taking a steadying breath to compose myself, before pushing open the door.
As soon as I walked in, the whispers of the Elders ceased, and every eye in the room turned to me. I walked with confidence to my seat at the head of the table, offering a small bow and greeting before sitting down. "You called for me?" I asked, keeping my tone even.
Immediately, the oldest Elder, Archibald, spoke up, "Katherine, we need to discuss your plans for putting an end to the rogue attacks once and for all. Tell us, what are your plans?”
I opened my mouth to respond, but another Elder, Rachel, cut me off. "I know you have handled the pack's issues very well ever since your father died, but recently, I think you've lost your touch. Your father would be disappointed.”
The other Elders murmured and nodded in agreement, their eyes filled with doubt.
I sat up in my chair, meeting their gazes evenly. "I assure you, I am working on a plan," I stated, my voice calm despite the rising anxiety I felt.
Suddenly Elder Thomas stood up, slamming his hand on the table. "You have been saying that in every meeting!" he shouted, his face red with anger. "What is your plan, Katherine? We need answers - our men are dying!”
I rose to my feet, meeting his intense gaze. "Do you think I do not know that?" I snapped, frustration creeping into my tone. "I am doing everything in my power to protect our pack! I am trying my best!!”
"Well, your best isn't good enough," Thomas shot back. He took a step towards me, pointing an accusatory finger. "I think it's time for you to step down as Alpha and let someone else rule.”
I stood there, my eyes locked on Thomas in shock, unable to believe the words coming out of his mouth. "I am the Alpha and I…”
Thomas didn't let me finish, cutting me off with a raised voice. "Then show us that you are the Alpha!" he exclaimed, turning to the other Elders. "Isn't that right?”
To my dismay, they all began to nod in agreement, their faces serious. Elder Archibald slowly rose from his chair, raising a weathered hand to silence the room.
"Katherine, my child," he said gravely, looking directly at me. "I'm afraid I have to agree with Thomas on this one. If you cannot find a way to stop these rogues and protect our pack, then..." He paused, letting the unspoken threat hang in the air.
I felt my heart sink, my mouth going dry. Step down? After everything I had done, all the sacrifices I had made to keep our people safe? The very thought was crushing. I couldn't speak, couldn't breathe.
Then, Thomas broke the heavy silence. "I am more than capable of being the Alpha," he declared, puffing out his chest.
However, just as he spoke, my beta, Edwin suddenly called out, "Father!" Thomas turned to him, a flash of annoyance flickering crossing his face.
Archibald then cleared his throat, drawing my attention back to him. "Katherine, what do you have to say for yourself?" he asked, his tone sounding almost desperate.
I tried to speak, but the words hung in my throat. What could I say? The Elders had made their decision, and it was clear they had lost faith in my ability to lead. I simply shook my head, feeling utterly defeated and unable to form words.
Archibald let out a weary sigh. "Then it's settled. You have three days to choose the next Alpha and step down.”
I couldn't bear to look at them any longer. "It's late," I announced abruptly. "I need to rest.”
Without saying anything else, I stormed out of the hall and headed to my room.
As soon as I entered my room, my mate, Dante, came walking towards me.
He gathered me into his arms as I sat heavily on the edge of the bed. "Are you okay?" he asked, brows furrowed with concern.
I shook my head, feeling a lump form in my throat. "No, I'm not," I confessed, my voice barely above a whisper.
To my surprise, Dante said, "I would be willing to take up the Alpha position."
I looked up at him, eyes wide. "What? How did you...?"
He smiled wryly. "I was passing by the hall and I happened to overhear your conversation with the Elders."
I stood up abruptly and started pacing the room as my thoughts raced. Dante came up behind me, wrapping his strong arms around my waist. His breath was hot on my ear as he whispered, "Think about it, Katherine. I am your best option. If I become Alpha, I'll make you my Luna. You will still have power in the pack."
I wanted to argue, but he suddenly began planting gentle kisses on my neck and for a moment, I found myself getting lost in the sensation.
"Dante..." I breathed, my eyes fluttering close.
He continued trailing kisses up to my ear, biting lightly. "Think about it, Katherine," he murmured, his voice deep and seductive.
Without warning, he turned me to him and planted one last gentle kiss on my forehead before pulling away. "Goodnight, my Luna," he said, a hint of a smile playing on his lips as he walked out of the room, leaving me to ponder on his offer.

I woke up feeling tired, the lack of sleep obvious in my puffy eyes and heavy limbs. With a groan, I finally dragged myself out of bed and went through the motions of getting ready for the day, my movements sluggish and my mood sour.
Just as I was pulling on my jacket, an urgent knock came at the door. I frowned, wondering who could be calling on me this early. Pulling the door open, I saw Arnold, one of my Omegas, standing there, looking extremely upset.
"What's the matter?" I asked, my brow furrowed. "Why are you banging on my door like a madman?"
Arnold quickly apologized. "I'm sorry, Alpha… but we caught a kitchen maid trying to poison your breakfast with wolfsbane!”
I felt my eyes go wide in shock. "What?" I breathed. "Take me to her at once."
"We've already taken care of her, Alpha. She confessed - she's a rogue who has been spying on the pack."
“Who…?” I opened my mouth to ask more, but before I could, I saw Edwin running towards us, his expression urgent.
"What now? I just woke up, damnit," I muttered under my breath.
"Alpha Katherine," Edwin greeted as he reached us. "Elder Archibald and Elder Thomas are waiting for you in the living room. It's urgent.”
I let out a frustrated groan, shut the door behind me and made my way to the living room.
As soon as I entered the living room, Thomas immediately started shouting. "How could you let a spy work in the kitchen?" he demanded. "You're not vigilant enough!”
I fumed, ready to defend myself, but Archibald stepped in, silencing Thomas with a raised hand.
"Katherine," the Elder said with a serious tone, "We can't wait three days anymore. We need an answer about stepping down now."
I took a deep breath and sat down, my eyes locked on theirs. "I have made my decision," I announced. "I will step down and give my Alpha position to Dante."
Both Archibald and Thomas looked surprised. Thomas let out a frustrated huff. "Couldn't you find a better choice among the Elders?" he grumbled, gesturing to himself.
I ignored his comment, turning my attention to Archibald. "I've made my choice," I said firmly. "What do we do next?”
Archibald studied me for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Finally, he let out a weary sigh. "Very well. We'll make the necessary arrangements,” he said, signaling to Edwin, who was standing by, to fetch the pack's shaman immediately.
I excused myself and headed to my room. When I neared the door, I spotted Dante coming towards me. Before I could speak, he swept me into a tight embrace.
"You did well, my love," he whispered, his warm breath brushing against my ear.
I hugged him back, relishing his warmth. "I trust you," I murmured. "That's why I made this decision.”
We stood there, lost in each other's embrace when Edwin's throat clearing behind us broke the moment.
"The shaman is here," he announced.
Dante and I quickly headed back downstairs, holding hands. The shaman began speaking in ancient, mystical languages as we stood facing each other in the middle of the living room. He drew a crescent moon on Dante's forehead and instructed me to repeat the words he said and I did.
As I spoke the words, Dante's grip on my hand tightened, and his eyes squeezed shut. When he opened them, they had turned a vivid shade of red.
The shaman declared the transfer complete, and the Elders present began to applaud.
"Alpha Dante, you must name your Luna as soon as possible," the shaman cut in. "I can give you time to think it over if you need."
Dante turned to me, a sly grin spreading across his face. "I already have someone in mind," he replied, his eyes locking with mine.
My heart raced with anticipation, and I couldn't help but smile. Surely, he was talking about me.
But then, Dante's expression changed, and he squeezed my hand tightly. "I, Dante, Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack, reject you," he announced.
