*Unknown POV *
I called out to him in his sleep. I hope I can get him to accept his destiny soon. I fear the world will come to a fiery end if we delay. They are coming and we must stop them. I must prepare him for a war he never signed up for but cannot escape. He is our only hope for victory. Lost in my thoughts about how to approach him, my wings twitching in frustration, I did not notice Ruby as she entered the room and stood beside me.
“Onyx,” Ruby said, nudging me in my side and breaking me out of my thoughts.
Startled, I jumped slightly. “Oh hello Ruby. How are you my dear sister? How are the others?”
Ruby giggled. It was rare she could ever startle her sister. “If you would come home you could find out for yourself. Everyone is fine, just on edge preparing for the big impending battle. Have you made any progress with the boy?”
“Not yet, but I hope to make contact soon,” Onyx replied, sighing deeply. How she missed her dear family. The mission was too important for her to abandon it or delay it to visit home.
Ruby got a far off look on her face. “Sorry, Onyx, it was lovely seeing you, but I must go. I will try to visit again soon. Please hurry, we need him,” she said as she walked to the balcony. Her big red wings unfurled, and she leaped into the sky, flying away.
*Unknown POV*
I watched the girls exchange from afar. I was too far away to be detected. Thankfully, my sight and hearing were far better than most of my kind. As I watched, I formed my plan.
“ I will have them and their power. They shall not escape me again,” I thought to myself.
I retreated further into the shadows and returned home, as the one with wings like rubies took flight into the night sky. Now that I have found the two, I just need to find the third and final, then my plan will be finalized.
*Keller POV*
I woke up to my blaring alarm. Thankfully it was the weekend. I had spent the last couple of weeks going over every inch of the comics. I had borrowed all the issues from Judah, but I still couldn’t make sense of my dreams and how the comics related. I groaned, frustrated and decided I could use a run to clear my head.
Heading out of the house, I ran along the edge of the forest not really paying attention to where I was heading. My thoughts quickly became consumed by her. Unknowingly, my feet took me deeper into the forest. Suddenly I came upon a clearing. Startled out of my thoughts by the familiar surroundings of my dream, I slowed. As I walked towards the tall oak in the middle of the graveyard, I looked around trying to spot the girl with the black wings.
“Keller,” I heard behind me, a sweet angelic voice barely above a whisper.
I spun around quickly to see a beautiful girl standing at the edge of the graveyard. It was her, the girl from my dreams, but she didn’t have wings. I took a step towards her.
“Who are you?” I asked. I had wanted to ask her why I had been dreaming about her for months, but I didn’t want to scare her and make her think I was an insane person.
“My name is Onyx. I have been waiting for you, Keller. You have kept me waiting a long time,” she said as she smiled, and walked closer to stand in front of me.
“I’m sorry. Onyx, why have you been waiting for me? You don’t even know me, I mean we just met,” Keller responded confused.
“Keller, you are special, far more special than you know. I don’t want to overwhelm you, but we do not have a lot of time. Keller you like me are not human,” Onyx said, staring at him intently to let him know she was serious.
Keller laughed so hard he was doubled over. “Haha. That was good and funny. You almost had me. Not human. Haha. What are we, then, freaking angels?” Keller said while trying to wipe the tears from his eyes.
“Yes. More specifically, we are Fallen Angels. I know you have questions, Keller, but it is not safe out here in the open. Let's go someplace more private. Then I can answer any questions you may have,” Onyx replied, hurriedly sensing someone watching.
Onyx held out her hand to Keller, and timidly he grabbed it. He must have somehow fallen asleep and was dreaming all of this. Soon he would wake up at home in his bed still wondering where these dreams had come from. Keller pinched his leg hard. Ouch. Okay, maybe this is not a dream. Could she be telling him the truth? Or had she somehow found out about his dreams and was just trying to pull his leg. Whichever way, he was determined to find out and quickly lead her back to his house and to his room.
“Okay, what do you mean we are Fallen Angels? How could I be a Fallen Angel when I was never an Angel? I am just an ordinary high school boy,” Keller asked as soon as the door shut behind them, turning to face Onyx.
Onyx turned to go sit on the edge of Keller’s bed. “You may want to sit down for this. There is going to be a lot of information. Some of it you may not want to hear, but it is important that you listen to me carefully. Everything I am about to tell you is completely true. You must follow my instructions, Keller, your life and safety depend on it not that you will learn the truth.”
Keller nods and sits down on the bed facing Onyx. “Okay, I am ready.”
“Okay, the first thing you should know is that Trina is not your real mom. She is a Fallen Angel as well and has been assigned to raise you and protect you.” Onyx stopped seeing the hurt and questions burning in Keller’s eyes.
“What do you mean she is not my MOM?!” Keller asked, standing up and nearly shouting at Onyx.
