After I got home, I packed my bags and moved out of the apartment I'd been sharing with Austin.
Austin came from a small fourth-tier city. His parents were ordinary office workers, and he had a younger sister. Money was tight.
After graduation, I suggested we live together to help him split the rent.
But my thoughtfulness was seen as desperation by others.
Once, I wasn't feeling well and took off work early. When I got home, I found Daisy sitting on my couch.
She was practically leaning into Austin, and he didn't seem to notice a thing.
"Austin, you and Summer aren't even married yet, and she's already throwing herself at you to live together. Isn't that a bit indecent?"
I flew into a rage and flung my bag right at her.
"And what about you? A young girl who keeps dropping by a guy's place when he has a girlfriend—what, you want to be his mistress? How cheap can you get?"
Daisy's eyes reddened instantly from my rant.
Austin was startled, then frowned. "Summer, that was way too harsh."
Oh, but when she called me indecent, he didn't say a word?
I didn't even look at him. I walked over, grabbed my bag, wiped it off, and slammed the door on my way out.
Too bad about my new couch—it was ruined.
