Chapter 2

Charlie looked puzzled. He had never expected Amanda's first words after being rescued to be accusations rather than gratitude. Charlie gave Amanda a disappointed look, wishing he could hang her back on the tree, but he just sighed and continued walking toward the beach. Amanda stood there, still looking smug, and kept accusing him, "Men just try to take advantage of us women. Don't think we're easy targets. If you keep looking at me like that, I'll post about you on Twitter. My friends and fans will support me, and you will know what it feels like to be cyberbullied!" "F*cking i***t!" Charlie couldn't hold back his anger and cursed, but he also tried to reason with himself, 'There's no point wasting time with someone like this. On this bizarre island, people like her won't survive long anyway.' With that thought, he turned on his flashlight and walked past Amanda as if she didn't exist, heading into the darkness. "Where are you going?" Amanda's aggressive attitude quickly turned to fear as she saw Charlie leaving. She hurried after him, saying, "It's so dark here. Are you really going to leave me alone?" Charlie looked at her with amusement and said, "What else should I do? Didn't you say I'd get arrested by Korean police if I got too close to you? Since you're so capable, figure out how to survive on your own. I need to go save others." "No! You can't go!" Amanda grabbed Charlie's arm, completely abandoning her earlier arrogance and toughness. "Aren't men supposed to protect women in dangerous situations? It's so dark here. Where's your sense of responsibility as a man if you abandon me?" People tended to laugh when they were at a loss for words, and Charlie did just that. He looked at Amanda's contradictory behavior with disgust and said, "You tell me you're not easy to take advantage of, but then you claim you need my protection. Do you even know what you want?" Faced with Charlie's questioning, Amanda maintained her indifferent attitude. "Of course I do! In dangerous situations, gentlemen need to protect ladies." Amanda looked at Charlie smugly, clearly expecting him to obediently take her to safety. She failed to notice that his expression had shifted from anger to disgust. When Amanda finished speaking, Charlie frowned and nearly threw up. He wondered if the outside world had really evolved into this state during his three years away. "Get lost! You are the one who wants everything but is the first to run when danger comes. Why should I protect you? F*ck off!" Charlie left immediately after speaking. Amanda stood there, stunned. She had never expected him to actually abandon her to fend for herself. "You disgusting b*stard! You're not even willing to protect ladies. Just wait! If we get rescued, I'll make sure the police throw you in prison!" Amanda shouted curses from where she stood. But Charlie no longer cared to deal with her. He knew that only when the flashlight beam disappeared into the jungle and darkness surrounded her would Amanda truly face reality. Trembling, Amanda reached out to explore the darkness around her. When her hand touched someone else's, she exclaimed excitedly, "Great, there are other people here! Hello, are you a passenger on the plane?" There was no response. Frustrated, Amanda pulled on the arm. The arm came away easily, and at the same time, a sharp scent of blood filled the air. Moonlight filtered through the leaves, and by this faint light, Amanda realized what she was holding was actually a severed human arm. "Arrgh!" A scream pierced the air as Amanda ran in the direction Charlie had gone. Charlie, who had been heading toward the coast, had already stopped. He was lying in the grass, his body tense as he watched ahead, his flashlight turned off. Crack! About seventy feet away from him, two wolves were feeding on a human corpse, the sound of breaking bones echoing eerily in the night. Charlie's mission was to save people, so he didn't plan to attack the wolves. Like a patient hunter, he lay quietly in the grass, waiting for the predators to leave. But just then, a scream came from behind Charlie, and the two wolves that had been feasting suddenly raised their heads. After exchanging a glance, the wolves lunged straight at Charlie. "D*mn it!" Charlie cursed, shining his flashlight directly into one wolf's face. The sudden bright light made the wolf yelp and run to the side, while the other wolf was also affected, slowing its charge. Charlie seized the opportunity and immediately turned to run. Generally, wolves were territorial creatures. When they already had food and weren't hunting, they mainly tried to drive away intruders from their territory. Charlie knew this well, so he just needed to run far enough to get past this dangerous area. He could return during daylight, when visibility was better, to deal with them. The two wolves chased him, keeping some distance, until someone suddenly appeared in his escape route. Sensing danger, the wolves switched from driving away intruders to killing them. "Thank goodness I found you. I apologize for what I said before. It was all my fault, and I'll do everything you say from now on. Please take me away from this island!" Amanda, having seen the corpse, had lost all her previous stubbornness. She now deeply understood that if she wanted to survive, she had to stay by Charlie's side. For her own survival, she was willing to apologize, but to her surprise, Charlie still passed by her just like before, running toward the direction she had come from. Charlie's behavior reignited Amanda's anger, but just as she was about to criticize him, she saw the two wolves lunging toward her. "God, help!" Amanda's eyes were filled with fear as she screamed, but survival instinct drove her to quickly turn and desperately chase after Charlie, who was running like a bolt of lightning.
