3.Starlight CEO

Zane couldn’t help but wonder how she had been faring since their divorce. After all, Alexa had been an heiress her whole life. After leaving their home and disappearing, he couldn’t stop himself from thinking about her and wondering if she could survive as a commoner. Despite being absent most of the time, he never failed to provide her with at least the basic luxuries he could give her. He’d be lying if he said that he didn’t look for her, nor attempted to connect with her through her lawyers. But just as convinced she was to end their marriage, she disappeared with no hesitation. But looking at Alexa right now, sent a slight pang in his chest. She looked good, even better than before. He didn't know how she managed to get back on his feet and evade his constant search for the past five years. All that Zane was aware of was that there was something different in her aura and that he hated how she looked at him defiantly when she used to look at him with a loving gaze. Alexa raised her eyebrows and crossed her arms. “Haven’t changed? Well, I can still say the same with you, Mr. Williams. You’re still blinded by your love for your ex-fiancee.” “You pushed Janna, Miss Havencourt. You know that she’s a rising actress and her body is what she uses for work. Can you afford to pay for her medical expenses if anything happens to her?” “If anything happens to her?” she repeated. “Mr. Williams, she just fell on the floor. It’s not like she got run over by a ten-wheeler truck.” He took a deep breath, before glancing at Janna, who was able to stand. She didn’t have any injuries at all but was shaken by the ordeal. Alexa tried to walk away, but he grabbed her by the arm, preventing her from disappearing once again. Why are you so always eager to leave me, Alex? “What the hell is your problem? You’re hell-bent on ruining my day, aren’t you?” “Aren’t you going to apologize at all?” he blurted out of the blue, thinking about what happened five years ago. “What for, Zane? She’s not injured at all.” It felt weird that she was calling his name, even so when she thought he was talking about Janna. After five years of searching, Zane felt relieved and strange at the same time. He knew he regretted marrying Alexa after she cheated on him, but why did he still… “If you’re worrying about money, then I’ll write you a check. I didn’t expect you to be this stingy, Mr. Williams,” she annoyingly said before pulling a checkbook from her purse and writing on it. She slapped it on his chest before walking away, leaving him stunned. “She’s so shameless! She even came to attend the conference. I bet she’s with her new man!” Janna exclaimed before grabbing the cheque, but he managed to snatch it first and folded it, keeping it in his pocket. “What…” “I’ll ask my assistant to get you checked in the clinic,” he simply replied before looking at her up and down. “Besides, why are you even here? I didn’t invite you.” He ignored Janna’s calls and walked away, leaving everything to his assistant. He went to his suite and immediately stepped into the shower, drowning his thoughts. Why was she here? Who was with her? All sorts of questions swirled around Zane’s mind. He had just clocked out after another sleepless night working at his entertainment company before attending the conference, which had been his routine since he got divorced. After Alexandra left, he should have felt liberated, but why did it feel strange not to see her waiting for him? Zane turned the shower off before stepping out, his mind still occupied with the encounter he had with her earlier. He took out the cheque she gave him and felt even more insulted by the amount she wrote on the paper. It was the same amount she received as the divorce settlement after the court approved their application. In frustration, Zane tore the paper and threw it into the trash bin, before getting dressed. He shouldn’t let himself get distracted by Alexandra’s sudden return. After all, he agreed to attend this conference because the rumored CEO of Starlight Agency, his rival, would be a guest too. He had been investigating the CEO for a while now, but he never learned much, aside from the fact that the company affairs were currently handled by a man named James Miller. He went out of his suite, walked towards the elevator, and spotted a cute girl, around three or four years old, wearing a cute pink tutu running towards his direction. He immediately caught the kid when she was about to fall, and noticed that they had the same deep brown eyes. She immediately giggled before placing a lollipop in his breast pocket. The maid who was running after her immediately apologized and picked her up. “Thank you, Mister!” the kid said before waving at him. He simply smiled before getting into the elevator, staring at the lollipop he received. Strawberry flavor. The same flavor Alexandra often buys whenever she’s buying candies or ice cream. Zane softly laughed before burying it deep in his pockets. His assistant was still with Janna, which left him with no choice but to enter the conference room by himself. One of the ushers pointed at his seat in front, which he took. The seat for the Starlight CEO beside his designated spot was still vacant, and Alexa was nowhere to be seen. Janna must’ve been hearing things again— “Did you see the Starlight CEO? She was very pretty!” one of the attendees behind him exclaimed. “Yes! I didn’t expect her to be Simon’s daughter, though… The Havencourts haven’t been in good financial standing since—” Havencourt? “Yeah, I heard about that too… No wonder she had the guts to divorce Zane Williams. She’s filthy rich herself!” His head swung after he heard those familiar steps. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t forget that sound. After all, he looked for their owner for five damn years. He was worried sick about its owner, knowing that she might struggle to adjust to her new life. Zane’s heart was filled with dismay, shock, and strange emotions as soon as he locked eyes with Alexandra Havencourt, who was walking side by side with James Miller, the one from the private reports he received. “Alex?” he whispered, about to stand up. A sly smile spread across her lips, before walking towards him. His heart stood still, and the room was quiet. Then, she took the seat beside him like nothing had happened. Like he didn’t even exist. James Miller moved closer to whisper something to her ear, and the questions in Zane’s mind multiplied even more. Was he your lover? How long have you been together? Did you even think of me? You’re definitely happy— “Oh, Mr. Williams,” Alexa broke the silence before giving him a mocking look. “I don’t think I’ve properly introduced myself. Alexandra Havencourt, CEO of Starlight Agency. It’s nice knowing you.”
