Jake was pacing in front of the building when Russ pulled up, with Kelly watching him from the doorway. He got into the car very carefully after Russ leaned across to open the door. “You look like hell,” Russ said. “Flattery will get you nowhere,” Jake retorted as he put on his seatbelt.
