As soon as he got back to his apartment after work, Jake began fixing supper. It was nothing fancy, sirloin marinara with garlic mashed potatoes and a salad, but it would serve to celebrate the fact that things were back to normal at home, as well. He had the sauce simmering on the stove and the potatoes ready to mash when he heard the buzzer. Figuring it was Russ, since he was due any minute, he pressed the button to let him into the building. It was Russ, as he found out when he opened the apartment door, accompanied by Detective Ogden. “I presume you’ve got some news about Fabian,” Jake said to Ogden as he stepped aside to let them in. “We’re still pulling everything together but we have learned a few verifiable facts.” Ogden sniffed. “I’m interrupting your dinner.” “It can wait.” J
