Clinic

1998 Words
Lena POV Gilroy never showed up that night. J ate both for himself and Gilroy. No food had gone to waste.  After playing a board game with Olivia, Conan went back to the clinic for his evening shift. The evening came and so the darkness. Tucking Olivia in, I went to prepare for bed. Unable to fall asleep I looked at the ceiling. Lightened by the moonshine, all these dark shadows formed and moved when a breeze of wind passed the trees. Realising I won't be able to close my eyes laying here by myself I pull on my sweatpants and a black hoodie that I got earlier from Conan as the weather really has become chilly these days. Making my way down stairs I grab my car keys. Putting my feet in my white Keds, I walk over to the front door.  Gale had earlier dropped off my car. I haven't tried it out yet but I assume it will start. Thinking of going for a drive, but not wanting to be alone I decide to visit the clinic instead. The car starts with an ear deafening sound. It is still the same old car I got from the start. For some reason I was expecting a miracle, but I should be glad that at least I have a vehicle left to drive after that crash. Driving up to the clinic, I park my car in front of the two story building. Right in front of the window Conan normally works behind. Its a small and old building. With a couple of stairs and pillars at the front door. The window is high enough, so you can not see his desk or the treatment bench. Walking up the stairs I push open the wooden door. Greeted by the receptionist, the nurse reminds me of a younger version of Gabs. The lady at the motel I met one of the first days here.  "Conan is at the end of the hall" She points to the left instead of the right side where is office is located. While the small ER is located on the left. "Is he busy?" Not wanting to disturb him.  "Naahh just putting bandages on some kids." She winks at me. Not talking about actually kids.  Making my way to the left, I step into this big room. Filled with empty beds, ready for about 15 emergency patients. Surprisingly, they have prepared so much beds for emergencies while the town is so small and they only have one doctor. Two men are sitting on a bed with their backs towards me. Conan is sitting on a chair on wheels. Stitching a wound on an arm of one of the guys. I slowly make my way up to them.  "Hey Conan." Not breaking his concentration on the wound Conan answers. " Hey Lena! What's up?" "Nothing much. Thought of checking up on you and keeping you company tonight." One of the guys tenses up. I can see him straighten his back immediately after hearing my voice. Getting closer I go to stand behind Conan. As their faces come into my eye field. I recognise who the broad shouldered tensed up guy is. Austin.  Not wanting to give him the satisfaction of recognition I totally ignore him. He must have tensed up knowing its me. The girl he screwed and thought of never seeing again. Too bad for him, because here I am!  "What happened to him?" Giving the guy a better glance while Conan stitches him up, he looks familiar. A bit young, I feel like I have seen him before. My eyes widen. The ice-cream vendor! What was his name again... He is the guy that has a crush on Olivia. Not one sided though. I am pretty sure she likes him as well and isn't using him just for free ice creams. But after that incident we never went back for more.  "Hey" He gives me a smirk, that shakes when Conan puts his needle again through the poor boy's skin.  "Nice trying sucking it up Josh. I am almost done."  "He tripped in the woods." Austin speaks and clarifies.  "Must have been a nasty fall that you need stitches. Nice to see you again though." I give him a supporting smile.  "Same, hows Olivia?" This boy is head over heels in love with Olivia. It makes me snicker as apparently the only thing he can think of is her.  "She is happy in the magical world of her dreams."  "Its good to hear at least one of the two ladies in my house is asleep." Conan smirks up at me.  "Hey! At least the other one is kind enough to come keep you company!" I might not in the future if I get scolded as if I am a kid, getting caught after bed time.  "And I truly appreciate that, cupcake." Our exchange of words clearly makes Austin feel awkward.  "Honestly though, he didn't need stitches. But I got this chance to torture him a bit now in case he ever hurts my little girl." Conan's smirk grows larger as he turns back to finish the stitching. Looping the threat, closing the last stitch and cutting the threat.  "You are telling me this was unnecessary?? " Josh jumps up knocking over a nearby little table with all the tools on.  "haha chill down, its not like this will hurt you more." Conan and I start picking up the tools from the ground.  "What kind of doctor...." He cuts himself off. Trying not to say anything too bad to upset the dad of the girl he likes. Conan is truly enjoying this moment.  Carefully I try to pick up all the pieces and tools from the ground. Not wanting to damage any of it as it all looks so thin and fragile.      "Be careful cupcake" Conan softly whispers. I can feel his eyes on me while I pick up a scalpel. "It might be better if you pass that to me"  I open my hand, on my palm balancing the scalpel. I am squatting while trying to pick up some small glass bottle in front of me. Losing a bit of my balance as the bottle rolls a bit further. Conan grabs my wrist with the scalpel. Holding me, so I can find my balance again on my feet. With his free hand he takes the scalpel from my hand. Turning on his feet but staying in a squat pose he raises his arm. The scalpel can be heard falling on the metal tray on top of a free bed. Conan still has a hold of my wrist. It's not a strong of possessive hold. But he is holding me with care. Maybe its a doctors thing. That they know exactly how to put enough pressure to not damage but achieve what they want.  "Aren't you planning on letting her go?" We both look up. Right in front of us is Austin standing. Looking annoyed.  After giving him a scolding look back, I cast my eyes back down again. Picking up the bottle. Conan's grip disappears releasing my wrist.  "Thanks Lena." He smiles apologetic. Which he shouldn't have to. What does Austin even think? That after screwing me once he owns me? I am not property, so ***** conservative. His tone was way out of line. We both raise up, but the moment I do everything in front goes black for a second. My body sways. Conan immediately stretches his arms out again. Catching me as I grab his arms as well. His arms feel like two iron bars that I am holding myself up with. But they are warm nice bulky arms. Just now I notice the slightly popping veins in his arm. The moment I find stability, Conan is ripped away from under my hands.  Austin grabs Conan at the collar of his white doctors jacket. With some amazing strength he swings Conan away against an empty bed. What was that? He did that with such ease... It slightly frightens me but I am more concerned. Moving towards Conan I move down through my knees. Cupping his head with my hands I look into his eyes. "You oke?"  "Yeah I am good" He grabs my arm and puts my arms down from his face. I stand up again, supporting Conan by holding his upper arm I drag him up.  "WTF WAS THAT!" I turn towards Austin. Feeling disgusted I had an intimate moment with someone who turns out to be so aggressive. But again as I move my head upwards I feel dizzy and my whole body sways again.  "Oke cupcake, its time for you to sit down and I will give you some extra fluids." This time Austin caught me. His touch immediately takes away the sickness I felt. I am still furious though. "Why." I whisper up to him.  "I don't want any men to lay his hands on you." Exactly what I thought. Conservative as ****.  "And who are you to decide that. Also it is Conan. Are you really the aggressive type?" "No, you make me like this. Sit." He puts a bit of pressure on me so I slowly sit down on the bed with his command.  "Its fine Lena" Conan slides over on a chair. Taking my arm, setting up the iv fluids. "It was a small push, I also exaggerated by falling on the ground." Conan gives me a wink. "More importantly, have you often been feeling dizzy lately? Are you drinking well"  "I am good, I drink well. Trying to reach that recommended 2 L everyday. I just stood up too quickly. " "Stay seated, the fluids will do you good. I will finish my shift and lets go home, oke?" Conan is sounding so fatherly.  Austin is still standing besides me, while Josh has just been observing everything that happened. "Its getting late, I should probably head home. Thanks for the stitches doc. " Josh stands up, lifting his arm with stitches up in the air.  "I will stay next to Lena until you finish, and sorry." Austin mumbles With a grin Conan leaves the ER together with Josh.  "Seriously though, first you don't show your face to me and now no men is supposed to touch me? whats the deal with you?" I am unable to walk away so I might as well fully confront him.  "I am sorry, for both my reaction and not contacting you. I just really respect and admire you. Seeing someone so easily touch you made me over protective. Even I was shocked by my own reflex to Conan touching you. I am normally not this over protective and possessive. Its also the reason why I stayed away. Its like you are unlocking some part of me that even I have never seen and am unsure how to deal with." He takes a seat on the bed next to me but apart. It shows he is also shook and serious.  "Well thats not good. If I am turning you into someone even you don't want to be." "No thats not it. As the towns chief I am always a bit authoritative. I don't want to be like that around you. Also... I am just being jealous. Of your connection with Conan." It makes me giggle, that such a massive man can feel jealous because of that. "That can be easily solved if you just show up more." "If I am allowed, I will. How about I escort you around the festival? The day after tomorrow." "Sure, but I promised Olivia that she could be my 'escort'. I am sure she won't mind if you join us though." "Deal." With that he stands up. Just as Conan walks back into the ER.  " Let get that needle out of you and lets go home. I am sure we both could use a couple of hours on our beds."
