Chapter Forty-three Rosetta surveyed the harbour’s muted pinks and blues. She felt safe on the Luna Park wharf, away from the party, away from Matthew and his calculated, empty words. How could he have done that to her? Again? Had he decided she hadn’t been hurt enough the first time? She’d been talking to Eadie when she’d spotted him in the crowd. The glimpse of a tall man with wings had caught her attention. A tall, highly attractive man. ‘Oh God,’ she’d said to Eadie. ‘I’ve just spotted Matthew Weissler.’ Eadie had looked at her in concern. ‘You okay, Rosetta?’ ‘Fine.’ Trying to ignore the drumming of her heart, she’d stepped out of Matthew’s line of vision and whispered, ‘What’s he doing?
