She didn't know how long she was rooted on the same spot. The police lights dancing around her like she was in an outdoor disco. She watched as the officers dragged the woman she had called mother since she learned how to speak to one of those cars flashing the disco lights. Her father was searching frantically for her. Although she was in plain sight, he did not seem to see or notice her, not that she blamed him, the night had been hectic- and she made no attempt to call him or signal him to where she was. The only thing she could do at the moment was to watch and she did. The sergeant had noticed the man looking for his daughter- who was in plain sight- and made his way to the father to help. It had been a shock to the whole safe haven of SUMTHIKOOK TOWN- the founders of the town, as almost all the present inhabitants of the town had unanimously agreed had christened the town along the lines of 'something is cooking' or 'something is spooky' and the town had lived its name up to its unintended meaning- and it was quite clear that nobody would be forgetting this incident for a while. He would not even dare to blame the father-daughter duo if they decided to pack up and leave. The family had been the perfect family example for everyone in town. The town is one of those towns that everybody kind of knew everybody. Everyone- or at least almost everyone- knew the sad yet happy romance of the family. It was like the Romeo-Juliet story of the town except that it was not all tragic. Two individuals had been arranged for a business marriage because even in a small town like theirs, marriages made business bigger and better for the community although the main purpose of the marriage was to provide a family for the lady involved as she was the last direct descendant of one of the businessmen. The two individuals involved were not in any way happy with the arrangement made by their their families. They had grown up together but had never seen each other as romantic subjects. They both wanted different things- the man wanting to go back to his first love, high school sweetheart of 9years whom he had been forced to break his engagement with while the lady wanted freedom, she always believed she was not made for the business life. They might have decided to go on with their personal lives in secret until they found a way out but the wedding night got in the way. The wedding day's events had taken its toll on them and they both decided to drown their sorrows and situation in booze since they were drinking buddies but the night did not end like they had expected. Whether it was the booze or the fact that they had secretly decided to accept their fate or maybe there was that lingering chemistry both of them had not noticed between each other before, the night led to a night of hot steamy frustrated passion which in turn resulted into a pregnancy. The couple decided to do what was best for the baby by keeping their secret longings at bay and were finally starting to learn to love one another when tragedy struck. The lady died immediately after the birth of their bouncing baby girl and the man turned into the comforting arms of his long time ex who had not seemed to get over him and that, definitely, rekindled their not so long forgotten passion. In a way, the couple both got what they wanted at the initial stage of their relationship, the man ends up with his first love-high school sweetheart and the lady finally got her freedom- although in a different way. The story was a sad yet happy one especially for the new couple who raised the baby girl with love. And of course, the new couple lived happily ever after with the bouncing baby girl. Or so it had seemed to the outside world of their little bubble. The night was telling a different story.
