Wynn’s POV
I must have lost consciousness at some point while on the floor. The black smoke has gone away and now there is a dark purple smoke. I slowly try to lift up and I can’t. I look up and there is a woman standing there in a dark dress with purple accents. Her hair is blonde and wavy. She has stunning blue eyes. “My name is Cassandra. I am Chadwick’s sister. Twin sister. Yes, I intoxicated him this evening. He needed to nut up so to speak. You are so tied up in Cooper you don’t realize he is another option out there for you. You won’t even give him the time of day. I thought maybe the threatening route would work, but no somehow you knew how to end that. I have no idea how. So, I’m going to do it my way. See anything missing?”
I look around and see that Shelby and Cooper are both missing. “What did you do with them?”
“This is just a little insurance. Give Chadwick a shot tomorrow. A date if you will. See what you think of him. One little date.”
“IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!” I scream.
“Oh yeah it is, isn't it?”
“What are you a low fae?” I chuckle at my joke.
“Ha ha ha. No, I'm a wizard.” She walks around the room.
“Disgraced?” I look her right in the eye.
“How did you know that?” She gives me an amused look.
“Lucky guess.” I shrug my shoulders.
“Tomorrow. Chadwick. Date. Enjoy.” She twirls and she is gone.
Chelle shows back up. “I’m so sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.” I say. Hating Chelle feeling responsible.
“I know but I still feel horrible.”
“I’m going to get some sleep to prepare for my date tomorrow. Well today.” My stomach has a hole in it.
“Okay. If you need anything.”
“I know, Chelle. Thank you.”
I go to bed worrying about Cooper. I miss him so badly. I’m unable to sleep. I wonder if he’s safe. I can’t believe I’m doing my eighteen birthday without him. I go into a fitful sleep. When I wake up its noon. Shelby comes into my room. “Why are you here?” I ask hatefully
“I had stuff to do for your party, so I was allowed to return.” She says in a small voice.
“I need Coop, why can’t he return?” I’m hoping she will have the answers.
“I don’t know, sweetie. He’s just not allowed.” She shrugs her shoulders.
“I hate this.” I feel like I’m about to throw up.
“Do you want something to eat?” She motions to the kitchen.
“No, thank you. I couldn’t stomach it right now.” I look to the bathroom.
“Well, I’ll let you be by yourself.” She backs out of the room.
“Thank you.” I don’t feel like talking to anyone. Especially the one person who was allowed to return.
I go to the bathroom and throw up. Then I brush my teeth. I take a shower. Then I take extra time getting ready. I’m in no rush today. I pick out my outfit for the day. By the time I’m done getting ready It’s three o’clock. Shelby comes to my door. “Chadwick is here.”
I roll my eyes.
“Okay I’ll be right downstairs. I’m so looking forward to this.
Chadwick is sitting on the couch patiently waiting. “Hi Wynn.”
“Hi Chadwick. I want to make it clear I think this whole thing is messed up.”
“I didn’t ask her to do this. Last night was night me at all. I would never do anything as heinous. This isn’t me at all. I’m a really nice guy. I swear. Just take today to get to know me. Ignore what my sister has done. I didn’t take Cooper away. I want you to have a good day. Let me show you a good time. Okay?”
“Okay. I’m going to choose to believe you.” I say. Looking him up and down.
“Thank you.”
“What are you wanting to do?” Curious what his idea of a good day is.
“I thought we could go to the mall. I haven’t gotten you a present yet.”
“Okay. That’s fine.” Picking out my own present. Should be interesting, I think to myself.
We end up at a shoe store which I can’t help but chuckle. Torture the poor boy. He seems to enjoy himself. Picking out various boots and asking if I like them. “You are very good at this, Chadwick. Is this what you do as a job?”
“No, not even close. Computer programmer.” Chadwick is getting a pair of boots out of the box.
“You have a human job?” I’m shocked.
“Well, I mingle among them, so it helps to have something to make me look like them.” He is putting the discarded boot in a stack.
I’m putting on a pair of boots. “I guess that makes sense.”
“I always thought so.”
I’m walking back and forth in the boots I tried on. “I think these are the ones.”
“Are you sure?” He asks thoughtfully.
“Yep. These are them.” I take them off and put my old shoes on.
I help Chadwick put all the other boots up.
We leave the shoe store and walk around the mall. “How old are you?”
“Human years twenty-six. My years 1426.”
“I think you’re a bit old for me.” I laugh.
“You could say that.” He laughs.
“I’m in love with Coop, Chadwick. You’ve been fun to hang around with. You’re funny. You’re nice looking. Very considerate. You just aren’t Cooper.”
“You wouldn’t consider a claim?”
“That has a s****l element to it, and I just want one person. Not two.” He is trying to hold my hand, so I switch my bag to the other hand.
“What if I could find a ceremony that didn’t have a s****l element and I wasn’t around all the time?”
“I don’t know Chadwick. I would have to talk to Cooper about it.”
“Well at least you are considering it.” Chadwick seems pleased with himself.
“Yeah.” I suddenly feel like I am cheating on Cooper.
