Aria’s POV
I went through the portal, got blinded by the light for a second but then I was in my living room. I saw Amare and Ekon on the couch that stood under the window jump up to me.
“There you are! Oh, tell me how did it go?” Amare exclaimed quietly as she wrapped her arms around me.
“Everything is okay, right?” Ekon questioned.
I nodded and smiled.
“Everything was so beautiful there! Everything had so much color, everyone had wings, it was crazy!” I said with my journey there playing back in my mind.
“I’m so happy everything went well. But maybe we shouldn’t talk so loud yet because Liam is asleep.” Amare said and pointed at the other couch that was in front of the TV.
“We turned the TV off when we saw he had fallen asleep. He has been waiting for you ever since you left. He had dinner but then didn’t want to leave so we let him stay. Which reminds me, you should call your friend Kylie and tell her your back.”
“But how was your mom? Tell us everything.” Ekon said and pointed me to go talk in the kitchen so we wouldn’t disturb Liam.
“Aria?” I heard someone say with a hoarse voice. I looked back to where Liam had been sleeping and there he was, about to stand up. He looked happy to see me.
I looked back at Amare and Ekon and they just nodded.
“Tell us everything later.” Amare said as they walked off together to the kitchen.
Suddenly I could feel a hand on my shoulder. I turned to Liam but then he just pulled me in for a hug.
I put my arms around him and hugged him tightly back with my eyes closed.
“Your wings are gone.” He said and pulled back still tired.
I looked up to the side. I guess I had been too exhausted to hold my fairy form any longer so I hadn’t even noticed that I had changed back. I didn’t even think of it.
“Yeah, it’s really hard to stay fairy. If you know what I mean.”
He just chuckled at that and I yawned and started to stretch my arms up. Yeah, I was really tired. Liam saw that so he just pulled me with him and onto the couch. I sat down beside him and leaned on his shoulder.
“You must be really tired.”
“I’m about to fall asleep like this…” I said in a tired voice. I closed my eyes and was about to doze off.
“Wait, this isn’t comfortable.” He suddenly said and he lay down and opened his arms smiling. “Come, this will be much better.”
I raised an eyebrow at him before I snuggled up in his arms and put my head on his chest.
This was much better.
I felt his arms warm around my tired body and I could feel his chest lift slowly every time he took a breath. Then a few seconds later I fell asleep.
Eric’s POV
How is she still inside? Was she not going to come out? She didn’t say she’d stay the night there or did she?
It was getting late. The sun was setting and I was still waiting to see her again. My mate.
I wanted to go up to the house and peek through the windows if I could, just to see what she was up to. But that would be creepy.
I turned around to look at the house when I suddenly saw bright white light peak out from one window. I got curious.
Then the light suddenly disappeared and things got more interesting. So, I went up to that window.
I walked quietly, just in case. I looked up inside through the window, trying to see past the curtains. It was a bit hard to see anything but I saw nothing out of the ordinary, at least I thought so.
What was that random light then?
Suddenly the front door flew open and I jumped back from the window. It was Clarissa looking at me suspiciously.
“Why are you still here?” She asked me.
“I’m waiting for Aria.” I said calmly, trying to make it seem as though I hadn’t been creeping by her window.
“She’s gone. No need to wait.” She said with a sturdy voice.
“What? When did she leave?”
“A few minutes ago.”
“Did she go out the back door or something?”
“No. Now go. She’ll be back.” And with that, she closed the door.
What just happened? How could Aria have left a few minutes ago? It doesn’t make sense. I’ve been waiting for her this whole time and I never saw her leave. Did I miss her? No, it’s impossible not to see her.
No matter. I guess I needed to be more patient. No worries.
I started flying back to my house.
I couldn’t take my mind off of Aria. She was on my mind the whole time. Even while my dad was speaking to me about my warrior training. Her purple wings and eyes. Her soft flowing hair. Oh my goodness and her energy was addicting.
“Are you even listening to me, Eric?” Dad said looking at me disappointed.
I snapped out of my head and nodded.
“Yeah, you want me to attend every practice. I get it. But if you really want me to want to attend you really need to give me better competition.” I said as I leaned back on my chair in the kitchen while dad sat in front of me. He had been scolding me for not attending the warrior practices lately.
Dad was the warrior leader, training all the young warriors that were joining the army for the royal family. Every fairy had to join at 18 years old and we could leave at 21 or 22. But if there ever would be a war we would all need to fight for our kingdom.
I was one of the warriors in training. But because my dad was the leader, I have always been fighting since childhood and have always gotten more training than others. That’s why I sometimes skipped practice at the palace. There was no competition, except for my dad and my two older brothers but they weren’t training in the palace anymore. I fought with them at home.
I never had time for friends, except at practice. But today I wanted to have some fun outside with Axel and the others. I did not regret it.
“It doesn’t matter about having competition. You are an inspiration to the other kids. You motivate them to be like you or fuel power in them that makes them want to become better than you.” He said with a strict voice.
He never joked around. He was always very serious about training. I just didn’t get it. Yes, we should know how to fight. But I’m still 19. Shouldn’t I also have some freedom to do something else?
“You even took Axel, Aiden, Molly, and Ruby with you. They need to train.” He said.
“Maybe if you gave us more time off to do something then we wouldn’t be skipping training.”
“You have all the time for that after training.”
“They do. I don’t.” I crossed my arms.
He did not like that answer. The energy in the room got heavy.
“You will attend every training this week or I will make your friends train way harder because of you and don’t worry,” His voice deep and serious, cutting through the air as he slowly stood up from his seat. “There will be competition.” He finished and walked out.
“All week!?”
I knew that Axel, Aiden, and Ruby could handle heavier training but Molly? She was too busy being sweet. She never liked fights. I couldn’t make her fight more than she already did.
I stormed angrily up to my room. I can’t believe this.
