Aria’s POV
We barely kissed! Almost. I could feel the frustration rising as I looked at Liam, not being able to kiss him properly. His face showed the same frustration but then he looked to the side out from the kitchen where Hailey and Dylan stood outside by the door, his jaw clenched. He looked back at me as if he were struggling to decide what to do while I tried getting my mind to calm down. I was all flustered. I wanted to jump back to him but I didn’t.
They knocked on the door again. That’s when Liam groaned a bit and went to open the door.
“Hey, guys.” I heard Dylan say from the living room. I looked at myself from the reflection in the glass cabinets and took a deep breath before going out.
“Where’s Aria?” Hailey asked.
“She’s in the kitchen.” I heard Liam say. I felt my heartbeat quicken at the sound of his voice.
What just happened?
“Hey, guys! Good to see you.” I said while walking out of the kitchen. Hailey jumped into me with a hug.
“Good to see you too!”
“Hey, Aria.” Dylan said as he sat down on the couch which they had moved all the stuff that was on it to the floor.
“What happened here?” He continued and looked at Liam who was trying to tidy everything up to make more space for us.
I let go of Hailey as she looked around the house.
“Was there a robbery or something?” She asked jokingly.
I walked with her to where Dylan was sitting and sat down with them. Liam came to us and stood beside me.
“What I’m about to say might be maybe unbelievable?” I said not really sure about how to say this.
They looked at me confused.
“I have a big secret.” I confessed and pressed my lips together. A few seconds past.
“Oh, okay do you want us to know, or is that all you wanted to say? You don’t have to tell us if you don’t want to, you know. But we’re here for you if need us.” Hailey said, her voice warm and she put her hand on my arm.
I looked at Liam and he smiled and nodded so I stood up in front of them both. Took a few steps back and a deep breath.
“What would you say if I told you that fairies existed?” I asked them and put my hands together nervously.
“What do you mean?” Dylan asked confused. He looked at Hailey who was just as confused as he was.
“What would you say or do if they existed?” I pressed nervously.
“Liam, is she okay?” Dylan asked him but Liam only asked them again.
“What would you two do if fairies actually existed?” He asked.
“Well I don’t know…what are we supposed to say to that?” Hailey asked and leaned closer to Dylan.
“Okay…” I turned around still nervous and then I felt someone beside me take my hand. It was Liam.
“It’s going to be okay.” He assured me. I turned back around, letting him go, and said:
“Well, I’m not just human. I’m half fairy.”
They just looked at me with blank expressions. I searched for Liam’s hand again for support and found it behind me. I held it tight.
“Uh okay, Aria nice one.” Dylan said finally, smiling. Then Hailey giggled beside him.
“I knew you wouldn’t believe me without proof. But I do have proof, the question is are you ready to see it?”
“Bring it on.” Dylan chuckled.
“Hailey?” I asked to get both their consents.
“Yeah, of course, I’ve always loved the idea of fairies existing.” Hailey said but I could hear the doubt in her voice. I knew she thought I was only joking. Liam let go of my hand and stepped a bit further from me so I’d have space for my wings.
Here I go…
I closed my eyes, calmed my mind, and let my fairy out.
When I opened my eyes again I could see their jaw drop. There was silence. I smiled awkwardly. Then a loud knock broke the silence. I quickly changed back to human.
“I’m finally here!” It was Kylie. I let out a sigh and Liam went to open the door.
I looked back at Hailey and Dylan that still had their jaws on the floor, completely shocked.
“Are you two okay?” I asked unsure if I should’ve said anything.
“Did- d-did you see-” I heard Hailey say as she looked at Dylan who just slowly nodded at her, his eyes still wide.
“I- I saw it too.” He said.
“Hello, guys!” Kylie said smiling while walking into the room. She gave me a hug and as she was about to go to Hailey she stopped. “Are they okay? Why do they look so shocked?” She asked and slowly hugged Hailey and Dylan.
“She had wings.” Hailey finally said, letting that fact sink into her brain.
“Oh, you mean Aria? You should see her fly.” Kylie said back happily. They both looked at her.
“You knew?!” They asked simultaneously even more shocked. Kylie backed up a bit and nodded.
“Yeah I knew, I helped her make the portal to the fairy realm, that’s why we’re here right? To open it again?” She looked at me for confirmation.
“Yeah.” My voice was kind of awkward for some reason.
“I thought you two knew.” She said confused.
“I just told them now…” I answered and her lips made an O shape in understanding. "Well, show us again!" She said excitedly and sat down beside Dylan ready to watch the show. I changed into a fairy again.
“SHE IS SO PRETTY!” Kylie exclaimed. “Look at her eyes and the color of her wings! What do you think guys?”
“This is so weird. Is this even real?” Dylan asked.
“You’re welcomed to take a better look.” I said and turned around to show them my wings better. Dylan stood up and walked closer.
“Can I touch them?” He asked, referring to my wings.
“Of course.”
I could feel his fingers on my wings. It was a different feeling than when someone touched my skin. Then I felt another set of hands and it was Hailey.
“This is real?” She asked unsurely. I turned around.
“Your eyes too?” She added. I nodded.
“This is crazy. Why didn’t you tell us before?” Dylan asked still mesmerized by my wings.
“It’s too dangerous for humans to know about fairies plus, you two find it hard to believe stuff like this.”
“Yeah, I’m still not sure if I do believe what I’m seeing right now.” Hailey said and crossed her arms.
“Yeah, that’s what I mean.”
“Why do Kylie and Liam already know?” Hailey asked.
“Liam was with me when I first started changing. Kylie happened to be with me when I was on my way here to ask Amare and Ekon about what was happening to me. Then they told us I was half fairy. Liam and Kylie were both with me when they said that. But we really don’t have a lot of time for explanations because Amare and Ekon have been taken by the fairies and I need help to make the portal so I can get them back.”
“Wait what?” Dylan asked confused.
“It’s true. It’s forbidden to be a half fairy. They wanted to take Aria but she wasn’t here when they came so they took Amare and Ekon instead to lure Aria to them. There have to be four of us so that we can make that portal, each of us needs to represent each element.” Liam explained as he started taking down the crystals from the shelves.
“What! They were taken!” Kylie was definitely worried. “And you’re going alone?” She asked me.
“It’s the only way.” I said half smiling. I was nervous but I needed to stay strong and brave.
“Why is it the only way?” Hailey asked as Liam started handing them two crystals each. He gave her the green ones.
“Because no human can go through the portal, only fairies.” Kylie explained as she was handed two white crystals.
“But how did Amare and Ekon go through then? Are they also fairies?” Dylan asked as he got two red crystals.
“No they're not and I don’t know; I guess humans can get through but only when someone opens it for them. Maybe the royal fairies made it possible for Amare and Ekon to get through since it was them that made that rule? We don’t know yet.” I assumed it was like that, the royal family must have that power because it wouldn’t make sense otherwise. They are the ones protecting fairies from humans after all. If not then how did they go through?
“Guys, can you help me make some space in here so we can circle around Aria?” Liam asked, holding two blue crystals. We all started moving the stuff to the sides and they circled around me.
“This is actually happening…” I heard Hailey say.
“Oh, we’re doing this right now okay.” Dylan said confused about how to act in this situation, which was understandable. To suddenly needing to believe something you were so sure of didn’t exist is a hard pill to swallow.
“Is everyone ready?” Liam asked as he put the book down on the floor in front of him.
“I’m so ready.” Kylie said, looked like she was ready for anything. Liam turned his gaze to Hailey.
“I think I am.” She said and he nodded, then he looked at Dylan.
“Sure let’s try this. I feel like I’m going crazy, but at least I’m going crazy with my friends.”
“You’re not crazy, it’s going to be fine. A storm will form inside this living room but other than that everything will be okay.” Liam confirmed. Dylan and Hailey looked at him with wide eyes but he was looking at me.
“Are you ready for this Aria?” He asked. He put down his crystals, walked towards me, and gave me a tight hug.
“Aww” I heard Kylie’s voice say and then I felt her hugging us too. Then I felt Hailey and Dylan hug our little group hug.
“I’m ready. Let’s just get this over with.”
“Okay.” Liam said as he let go of me. They all went back into positions. “See you later.”
“Yeah, see you guys.” I said smiling at them, I could feel tears wanting to form. I was afraid if I’d get caught then I’d never see them again.
“Whatever you do, stay a much out of sight as possible. Go straight to your mom’s house.” Liam said and I nodded. Nobody knew Clarissa was my mom there so it would be safe to go to her.
“Everyone hold your crystals outwards to the side like this.” Liam explained and everyone followed his orders.
“Good luck.” Liam gave me one last look. I smiled back.
“Good luck.” Everyone else said with comforting eyes. I thanked them all, tears were threatening to fall. Then I heard Liam say those weird words like how Ekon said them last time. He read them out from the book. He did stammer sometimes, clearly not used to reading whatever language that was. The storm started to appear. It was working. Then the storm got strong and Liam started to shout the words. Then the wall of light appeared in front of me again and I looked at them all for the last time. Then I went through.
It felt as if I was pushed through. It was harsh. Not like last time when I appeared smoothly on the street. This was like I was being pushed or pulled through the portal harshly.
Probably because we weren’t really sure how to make that portal. Liam stammered a lot and I hope he said the words right or something might have gone wrong. It also seemed to take longer to go through the portal this time.
Did we do it wrong or..?
