Half Fairy and Her Two Mates

The New Girl

“Heeey girls!!!” I said as I ran to Hailey and Kylie. They screamed when they saw me and I jumped to them, crashed into them, and hugged them as we fell on the school grounds. We laughed.

“Happy birthday, Hailey!” I said, we sat up and I took off my bag to find the gift.

“Thank you!” she said happily.

I found the little black box in the bottom of my bag and I took it out.

“What’s that?” Kylie asked.

“It’s her gift. Here.” I said and handed it to Hailey. She took it out of my hand and carefully opened it. There it was. The emerald stone, protective necklace with a strong, thin golden string wrapped around it.

“I made it.” I said and looked at their expressions. They stared at the necklace, not taking their eyes off it.

There was this awkward silence for a moment, maybe not for them but for me. Was it ugly?  

“Woah. It’s beautiful. Thank you.” Hailey said breaking the silence.

“Beautiful? It’s GORGEOUS!! Can I hold it?” Kylie asked and looked at me. I pointed at Hailey because it was hers now and she smiled at Kylie and handed her the necklace. While she looked at the necklace she disappeared into her own world. She stood up and traced her fingers over the carved symbols on it, which took ages to make but I was proud of my creation.

“How did you make it? How long did it take?” Hailey asked as we still sat on the ground. People were walking past us and whispering. We didn’t care.

“Just made it. Took me 3 days. But you aren’t supposed to know that because that’s a secret. This is a birthday gift. You’re not supposed to know how I got it or you might get disappointed.”

“But you made it. How can I be disappointed?”

I smiled.

“What are you girls doing?” someone said from the crowd. We looked up and a boy stood over us. Two of them. Dylan and Liam.

“And why are you on the ground?” Liam added. We stood up and dusted ourselves.

“We just happened to be on the ground.” Hailey said.

“Just happened to be there?”

“Yes. Is that a problem?” I asked smiling.

“No.” Liam said and rolled his eyes, smiling back at me. Then he came closer to us and said whispering; “People are just judging.”

“Let them.” I whispered back.

“We don’t have to please everyone.” Hailey said and Dylan walked to her and added: “People are assholes anyway.” he hugged her. “Happy birthday Hailey.” then he kissed her.

“Oh yeah, happy birthday!” Liam said. I gave him the eye, laughed at him, and gave him a shoulder punch. He laughed. We walked away together leaving the lovebirds. “You totally forgot.” I said.

“Yeah, I did.” then he looked past me where Kylie stood and we both looked at her still admiring the necklace. “What is she doing?” he asked me.

“I guess she just loves the necklace I gave Hailey.”

“Hey, Kylie are you coming?” he called to her. She looked up and came to us fast.

“Hey, Liam!”

“Hey, are you okay? You looked crazy over there staring at a necklace.” he asked as we three walked to class. We three were together in the first period today. History.

“Look at this.” she said and handed him the necklace.

“Oh my god. This is actually very pretty. Where did you get this?” he asked me but Kylie was quicker. “She made it!”

“What? How? Jeez, talented much?”

I smiled.

History started and we sat in the back with other kids. Barely paying attention to class.

“Kids, there’s a new student in the class. Would you like to introduce yourself?” the teacher said, the last sentence pointed to the new student and now everyone was paying attention. There was a girl standing in the front. Blonde curls and blue eyes. The boys couldn’t take their eyes off her. She was beautiful.

“Guess you got yourself some competition.” Liam says.

“She’s very pretty but nothing compared to Aria.” Kylie says for my support I guess. There was this weird feeling that came with that new girl. 

“Hello, my name is Alyssa. I come from Norway but my parents got new jobs here so we moved.” The new girl said. Her voice was soothing and she sounded very sweet.

“Hi Alyssa!” some guy said.

She smiled and we could almost hear the boys’ hearts skip a beat. She found an empty seat near all the guys which they made ready for her.

I was bored and had a minor headache so I didn’t pay attention to the rest of the class.

By the end of the school day, everyone had seen Alyssa and were talking about her. It was weird. I know I was bullied for my beliefs but I got a lot of attention for the way I looked. I’m not saying that I loved the attention but usually, I was considered as the “prettiest” girl in school, not that I agree with that statement but all the attention was on me,  everyone tried to get with me and be my friends, and now that was all gone. There was so much difference now just because of another girl. I’m not sad or jealous or anything, it’s just different. I still had my friends so I was good.

“Hey, I spoke with Alyssa and she wished me happy birthday!” Hailey said while running to us. We all stood at my locker. Liam, Dylan, and Kylie. They looked at her.

“Is she nice?” Liam asked leaning on the lockers.

“She really is! We should be friends with her.”

“I’m not sure if Aria likes that idea.” Dylan said and looked at me as I close my locker.

“Why?” I asked. He looked at me confused. “Everyone’s talking about it. That you and Alyssa are like competitors. Right?” he said not really confident now.

“What? Aria hasn’t even talked to her yet.” Kylie said but it was obvious she didn’t like her showing us that she was on my side. Which was nice but I don’t like drama and I usually just avoid it, so I guess that is what I will be doing if anything happens.

“Well, imagine if we became friends with Alyssa. Then our group will be made from the prettiest people in school.” I said and walked away. “I’m leaving, see you later.”

“AWW ARIA stop it you’re making us blush!” Hailey called after me.

“Hey, don’t forget after school!” Liam called too.

“I won't!”

“I’ll call you!”

“Are you and Aria doing something after school? Is something happening between you two?” I heard Kylie ask him teasingly. He just smiled and the others laughed a bit. They all knew nothing would ever spark between us. He might be my soulmate but in a friendly way, I think.
