I went to his house after dinner to help him with his homework for math class that was due tomorrow. We were quick so we just watched a movie to spend the rest of the time we had together because he was grounded. He had cheated on a test at school and got caught. But the truth was that he wasn’t really cheating. He was trying to help Dylan with the test but he got caught for that and Liam took the blame by saying he cheated and didn’t mention Dylan in any way. Now he wasn’t allowed to have friends over because according to his dad: “Your friends are distracting you.”. But luckily his parents like me. That’s why I can come over to help him with his studies, but only for a few hours.  

“I swear my parents ship us.” Liam said as he jumped onto his bed beside me after starting the movie. Yes, his television was right in front of his bed.

“I totally agree with that. The walls are so thin here that they probably already know we’re watching a movie and not studying.” I said. For some reason his parents always want us to be together. They know we’re watching a movie and I know they wouldn't care even if I stayed the night and even though Liam is grounded.

“But are they stopping us? Noo.” He said and we laughed. We didn’t turn the lights off for this movie this time, just in case so we wouldn’t fall asleep because that always happens.

I woke up with a bad headache. “Ouch.” And I put on hand on my head. But I couldn’t move. Liam was sleeping on me.

“Liam?” I said and tried to move slowly away. He growled at me tired. I didn’t want to wake him. It was dark outside. We must’ve fallen asleep while watching the movie. Why didn’t anyone wake us up? “Liam?” I said again. He was about to fall off of me and down on the floor because both of us were on the right side of his bed. He growled again and he put his arms around me so I was stuck.

“You’re not going anywhere.” He said, his voice hoarse.

“It’s in the middle of the night, Liam. We fell asleep.” I said and then he lifted his head and looked around. “What? Why didn’t they wake us up?” he said and slowly stood up. I sat up and the headache got worse. “Who turned off the lights? Did they just-?” he asked as he turned them on. “Of course they did.” he said to himself. I could barely open my eyes in the brightness.

“What time is it?” I asked.

“2 am.” He answered and looked at me. I couldn’t look back. It was too bright. “What's wrong?” he asked.

“Ugh.” I let out and went back under the covers where it was dark. “My head. It’s killing me. I can barely open my eyes.”

“Is the light bothering you?”

“Yeah, can you turn it off?” I asked, he did so and came back to me. He lifted the covers slightly off my head and put his hand on my forehead.

“You don’t have a fever or anything. Can you open your eyes now?” he asked and I sat up and opened my eyes slowly.

“Woah.” He sat down on the bed and looked into my eyes.

“What?” I asked.

“Is this normal?” he asked and pointed at me with his eyes. He looked worried but curious at the same time.

“What do you mean?” I looked at my hands but they seemed normal and my hair too.

“No, you’re fine. I mean your eyes. They’re glowing.” He came closer to my face and examined them. “It’s pretty but it’s weird.”

“Stop it.” I said seriously and stood up from the bed on my way to the mirror but then my head screamed with pain. My hands went straight up to my head and I made a small noise in agony. I sat down on the floor. “Oh god, what’s wrong with me?”

“Hey, come here.” Liam said and helped me back to the bed. “Maybe because this is new and you’re not used to it. Maybe that makes the headache.” he went to find a small mirror and gave it to me. I looked at myself and it was true. My eyes glowed a little, a purple glow! What the-?! I put the mirror fast away from me.

“What’s this?!” I asked in a panic.

“I don’t know!” Liam said now panicking.

“This isn’t funny Liam.”

“I’m not doing this!”

“Ahh..! It hurts!” I held my head and tried to push the pain away.

“Wait, I’ll give you a pain killer.” He stood up and opened a drawer with pills and bandages.

“You just have those in your bedroom?” I asked as he found his water bottle and came back.

“Well, I'm not always careful with myself.” He handed me the pill and I drank the water. I lay back down and just tried to relax. Liam always hurt himself when playing football with his team. They were quite aggressive and Liam was a great player, but he never let himself fully heal after any injuries. So it makes sense he has those painkillers near him.

But then a little sliding sound came from the door. Someone had given us something by sliding it under the door.

“What is it?” I asked. Liam went there and took it up. He took his time to figure out what it was in the dark and then:

“Really?! MOM! DAD! NOT FUNNY AT ALL.”

“It would hurt much less!” his mom said from the other side. “Aria, don’t worry. The first time is always like this! By the way, don’t worry about Amare or Ekon. We told them you’d stay the night here!”

“Thank you!” I said.

“Oh my God!” he said. “Catch Aria.” And he threw it to me and I got it. Condoms. I laughed. He saw me laugh which made him smile too and he opened the door. His parents were on the other side. “Mom. Aria and I. We’re just friends. Get it?”

“More like very very close best friends.”

“Okay, but that doesn’t mean that we’re doing anything.”

“But very very close friends could always end up together.”

“Maybe in the future mom but not now.”

“Okay, Liam I get it. I’m very sorry. You two just looked so cute when I came to check up on you, you two were sleeping on each other. Then I heard that you were awake in the middle of the night and..” Liam gave her the eye “and yeah..” his mom ended up saying.

“We were sleeping! Then we just woke up. We didn’t have s*x!” he then said to her knowing what she thought.

“Okay okay. Yes, I understand!” she said backing away smiling.

“Goodnight mom.”

“Goodnight.”

“Goodnight!” I said to his mom.

“Sleep well Aria.” She said and Liam closed the door.

“You’re parents are so open about this.”

“They’re too open. I would never have s*x in this house with these thin walls and my parents around.” He sat down on the bed and I gave him the condoms.

“What? You don’t want them?” he asked.

“Like I need them.” I said smiling. He smiled and threw them on his desk.

“This is so interesting.” He said and relaxed next to me looking straight into my eyes.

“My eyes?” I asked.

“When the lights from the hallway hit your eyes the glow went away. But when I closed the door your eyes started glowing again.”

“That’s weird.”

“Yeah.”

He wouldn’t stop staring.

“Oh my God, stop it. It’s weird with you just staring at me like that.”

“Oh yeah sorry.” He said but he couldn’t take his eyes off me. But he tried, even tho he kept looking back.

The pain gradually went away and I slowly fell asleep again.
