| Day 1: 8 January, 10.45 am |
Instructor Adrian and the other instructors led us to a huge open hall in the main building of the campsite.
Damn the huge flight of stairs was tiring to climb.
The instructors went to each corner of the hall and two instructors at the two sides and one stood outside the hall under the hot sun.
"Go find your instructors!" Instructor Adrian yelled.
Everyone started to break off into their different watches to find their assigned instructors. We followed Instructor Lin to the side and placed our bags down and went to sit down in a circle.
"Get your mobile phones and all your other electronic gadgets and place it inside this waterproof bag. You'll get your phone back after the camp. You get two minutes to call anyone and after that inside this bag. Clear?"
"Crystal." We all replied synchronised.
"Abuela, no puedo llamarte durante los próximos cinco días, ¿de acuerdo? Te quiero mucho. Cuidate abuela" Nisrina spoke lovingly.
Two minutes was up and everyone had put their phones in the bag.
"Who did you call?" I asked.
"You curious? It was my Abuela." She smiled.
Abuela — grandmother
"Alright, I'm passing down a paper with your name, your health status, your allergies if any, and your parents' or guardian's contact number in case of any emergencies. Verify all of them and sign your name in the box next to your name if they are all correct alright?"
"Sure," Isaiah said.
Slowly, the paper was passed down to me.
Aviana Sanchez. Check. No medical injuries in the past 6 months. Check. No allergies. Check.
I see the next name, Andre Serrano.
Emilia Serrano, mother, 202-555-0759.
I really miss talking to Emilia.
My eyes wandered to the other names on the list.
Isaiah Lee. No medical injuries...blah blah blah. Sean Lee, Father, 202-555-0849.
Isaiah's father was Sean Lee?
Sean Lee. I've heard that somewhere.
"You done daydreaming princess?" Matthia whispered in my ear and Jaden snatched the A4 sheet out of my hand and proceeded to check his details. I could feel my face heat up as everyone was staring at me.
Oops.
Andre's hands were fisted, waiting for the moment it could clamp down on Matthia's face.
Now I see why I'm a "princess" all of a sudden.
"Matthia, don't start, I don't want a brawl happening anytime soon."
A devilish smile took over his face, "I know, but I love pushing the poor boy's buttons, I just want him to snap."
"He won't snap because he doesn't care."
"You sure because from where I'm standing the boy is madly in love with you."
"Pfft."
I wish.
"You two aren't fooling me right?" Instructor Lin arched an eyebrow and pointed at me and Matthia's close proximity. I gently push him away.
"Hell no we aren't together. We are best friends."
"It's true, Instructor. But, don't you think we look good together?" Matthia said while shooting an innocent smile at Andre.
"You touch her and I'll tear you apart," Andre muttered.
I scoff at that, "As if I'm yours."
Andre's eyes shot up to meet mine. I could see the shock on his face.
"Alright calm down tigers, pick up your bags, it's time for your first activity."
...
Every watch was starting to do their own scheduled activities and we were getting ready for ours.
"Wait for me over there, I'll be back soon. Jaden, Isaiah follow me." Instructor Lin pointed at those two.
The remaining four of us silently walked towards the platform she gestured for us to wait near. The platform was at least one and a half metres from the ground with wooden steps on the side. We placed our bags down at the side and just awkwardly shifted around.
"So, this is really awkward and I can sense the tension between you three even if I was a mile away so what's it with you guys?" Nisrina looked between the three of us with her arms crossed.
"She—"
"I knew Andre for a bit, you can say we were acquaintances before I moved away." I cut off Andre and replied with a smile.
"And then I met Aviana and we live together as one happy family," Matthia continued.
"You live together?" Andre asked his voice monotone. His eyes locked with mine, his intense gaze withering me apart.
I avert my eyes away, "Yes, we do live together."
Nisrina's cheerful voice dissipated the uprising tension, "Aww, that's so cute!"
"Right." Andre stuffed his hands in his pocket.
"Look they are coming," Matthia said.
Isaiah and Jaden were a large mat almost two times my height and the mat had many handles on three out four sides of the rectangular mat.
"Listen up our first activity is—"
"Trust falls."
Damnit.
