Chapter One
Cassie was dragged through the long hallways she had passed through earlier into an open space by two burly-looking men. She couldn't fight back even if she wanted to.
There were a lot of people in the open fields of the packs and they were sitting in groups around a campfire. It seemed they had just finished the coming-of-age ceremony.
When they saw Cassie, most of them stood up and gathered around the center where Cassie was dragged to. Cassie was pushed onto the ground and she fell knees first onto the ground.
"Who is she?" Someone asked.
Another chimed in. "She looks badly injured."
"I've never seen her before. She is not a member of the pack."
"How dare you intrude my pack and cause trouble?" A cold voice sounded above Cassie's head and she couldn't help but feel a tremor round down her spine from how cold and harsh the voice sounded.
She looked up and saw a figure standing across her. He was tall and he was looking down at her. She saw the frown on his face first and from his knitted brows, she could tell that he was very angry.
Cassie did not know who he was but from how the people were submissive to him and how majestic his aura was, she could tell he was the alpha. He was Alpha Clyde.
"What happened?" He asked, retracting his gaze from her and looking towards one of the men who brought her.
"Alpha-" The man clasped his palm and bowed. "We found her in the inner parts of the pack house and it has been confirmed that she is not a member of the pack."
"What were you doing there?" Alpha Clyde growled, turning his attention to Cassie.
She did not reply.
"Alpha, we found her trying to leave with this." The man spoke up, still bowing to Clyde. "It took a lot of hassle to retrieve this back from her."
He walked forward and placed a blue crystal in the alpha's palm.
Almost immediately, a sharp glint passed through the Alpha's eyes when he saw what it was. But, he soon regained his composure and his expression was back to normal.
He seemed even angrier now as he looked at Cassie. He ordered the man, "Open the satchel around her neck and let me see the contents."
"Yes, Alpha."
The man stomped over to Cassie and snatched the satchel around her neck forcefully. She was too weak to resist as her whole body was bruised from the gashes left by the men she had fought while trying to escape.
He opened the bag and emptied the contents. Inside were all sorts of mini weapons. From daggers to sabers, one could see that she was well prepared.
Alpha Clyde's gaze darkened. He looked at Cassie. "Where are you from and what is your aim in stealing this?"
No reply came from Cassie.
"DO YOU NOT HEAR ME?"
Cassie still didn't reply.
Her silence made the man even angrier. He looked toward the men who had brought Cassie over and he had a rare expression of shock when he saw that most of them seemed badly injured.
He realized that she could not be underestimated. Since she was not considered a weak woman, he wouldn't treat her as one either.
He looked towards a man standing by the side. He was his beta, Lucas, and one of the strongest men in the pack.
"Lucas-"
"Yes, Alpha."
Alpha Clyde looked towards Cassie as he spoke. "I want you to make her talk. Regardless of what it takes."
There was a sharp glint in his cold eyes and Cassie could tell she had fallen into hell. But regardless, she was not going to say anything.
She would not betray her pack.
Lucas stomped towards her. He was a cold man like his Alpha and there was barely any expression on his face too.
He pulled Cassie up harshly by the hair and she whimpered slightly from the pain. Her wound opened up and blood was beginning to fall in drops onto the floor.
He threw a slap across Cassie's face and she doubled over from the sheer impact, landing face flat onto the floor. One could tell that she was weak and did not even have any fighting spirit any longer.
Lucas pulled her up again and threw three more successive slaps across her face. Blood spurted out of Cassie's mouth and splashed on Lucas's face.
He lifted his hand again but before his palm could descend once more, Alpha Clyde spoke up.
"Wait."
Lucas paused and looked at Alpha Clyde.
The Alpha's gaze was harsh and piercing as he spoke, "Drag her to the dungeon and kill her. Since she is not willing to talk, there is no use keeping her around."
There was no reaction from the crowd as it seemed they were used to the Alpha's ruthlessness.
Lucas didn't waste time. He pulled Cassie up by the collar and was about to drag her off when a voice spoke from the crowd.
It was a female voice.
"No. Please wait. I know who she is!"
