The training hall was extremely quiet and everyone was watching the match going on in the training ring earnestly. It was one of the matches that were mostly anticipated yet most expected. Whenever the Alpha’s daughter had a match or sparred with anyone, it was sure she would always win.
But, the pack members still came to watch every time. This was not because watching people beat each other up was that interesting. It was rather because they all held hope that maybe… Just maybe, someone might be able to restrain her.
But, they were meant to be disappointed that day also.
Cassie grabbed the fist that came for her neck and turned it, elbowing this person in the chin. The man stumbled backward but this was not enough to make him fall.
But, Cassie wasn’t done.
She kicked off the ground with agility and forcefully kneed him down.
This action of hers instantly forced the well-built man down. As she kneeled over his rib, one could hear the sounds of bones crushing. The man groaned in pain before spurting out a mouthful of blood. The blood instantly sprayed on Cassie’s clothes.
She looked down at her clothes which were already dyed red with disgust and wrinkled her nose while muttering, “Yuck.”
She immediately stood up and after eyeing the man yelping on the ground, she knew his wounds were not that severe.
Then, she walked away from the ring under the excited cheers of the people. She walked towards the restroom, intending to change her clothes.
But as she left the doors of the hall, she saw Kline, one of her father’s betas and her sparring partner.
Cassie halted in her steps and she watched as the young man walked up to her.
Kline was a taciturn person and he hardly talked unless they had a fixed spar. Otherwise, he could sit alone for hours without talking.
So, seeing him approaching her, she knew he must have been on an order.
The man reached her side and when he did, he didn’t waste time on pleasantries.
He began, “The Alpha wants you in his office.”
Cassie furrowed her brows instantly.
Office?
It was her birthday today and her father being the kind that pampered his daughter to death, would most likely not be anywhere near work today.
The last time they spoke, he told her he was checking on the custom-made suit he was going to wear. And Cassie already considered that that might take a hell lot of time.
So she was taken aback when she was told he wanted her in the office. Nevertheless, she did not question Kline.
Instead, she pointed in the direction of the restroom and said, “I need to change.”
“Okay. I’ll wait then.”
Kline replied as he followed her to the door of the restroom and stayed a few meters away.
Cassie entered the restroom and changed her clothes. By the time she came out, the training hall was already deserted and the spectators who had come to watch her match earlier had mostly gone.
She adjusted her clothes and walked to Kline.
“Let’s go.”
The man nodded and they immediately began to walk toward the Alpha’s office.
As they walked, Kline was quiet and was staring straight ahead.
Cassie didn’t want to talk to him but she was also curious as to why her father called her to the office. She wanted to prepare herself.
So, she turned to look at him beside her and asked, “Do you know why he wants me in his office?”
Kline met her gaze silently for a moment. Then, he shook his head and muttered, “Not sure. You’ll know when you get to the office.”
Cassie clicked her tongue. That was the reason she didn’t want to ask him. Her father wouldn’t make any too decisions before consulting the people around him. So it was not possible that he didn’t know. He just didn’t want to tell her.
She turned her head back ahead and muttered inaudibly, “Block of wood.”
Although her voice was low and normal humans wouldn't hear it, Kline was a werewolf after all. He had heightened senses.
The man looked at her without a word but if one looked closer, one would realize there was a smile in his eyes.
