The duo soon reached the Alpha’s office. Kline stopped at the door and don’t follow in. He only informed the Alpha through the mind link that he brought Cassie.
Cassie knocked on the door before turning the knob and pushing the door back. She entered and closed the door behind her back.
The moment Cassie entered, she saw her father sitting behind the desk. There were no documents in front of him so it was clear that he wasn’t at the office to work.
Cassie felt mild in her heart but she didn’t say anything. She walked towards the man and took a seat.
“You called for me, Dad.”
Alpha Ronald lifted his head and looked at the girl.
She was a beautiful young woman. She took over her mother’s features clearly and was a replica of her. No matter how much Ronald looked at her, she looked clearly like his wife.
He felt a pang in his heart Ashe knew what kind of danger he was sending her to. Alphas were ruthless and they wouldn’t forgive anything that would enhance the safety of his pack. Especially since the rival pack was a pack of rogues.
Rogues were most dangerous and they’d kill her if she was captured.
He didn’t want to send her there at all. So, he asked her again, “Cassie, have you seen the Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack before?”
Cassie was taken aback by the question. She mulled for a moment before shaking her head. “No, I haven’t seen him. You know I hardly leave the pack.”
“I know.” Alpha Ronald nodded. He sat up straight and continued, “He is a very ruthless man and he’d go for nothing less except to make that person suffer if someone crosses him.”
Cassie looked at her father for one moment. She already knew the direction where the conversation was going. But, she didn’t say a word at first.
She merely answered indifferently, “Oh.”
Her father rubbed his arms lightly before asking again, hope filling his eyes. “Can you not go, Cassie? I don’t want to lose you. I can send someone else. Someone sure to be able to retrieve the pack.”
“But, you haven’t all these years. It shows that you’re worried that person would also be captured. You’re worried for me but that person’s parents are also worried for him. Moreover, this mission is my responsibility to the pack. I have to do it.”
She bit her lips and sat up, “It’s time, right? When have you decided?”
Alpha Ronald sighed in defeat when he heard her. His shoulders slumped. But, he already decided in his heart.
He replied, “You’ll go next week.”
“Next week?” Cassie asked and frowned. “I can leave tomorrow. The journey will take half a day so u should get there before night falls.”
The Alpha shook his head and disapproved.
“No. Go next week.”
Cassie sighed. Then, she began to explain. “The Crescent Moon Pack is holding a coming-of-age ceremony tomorrow. Most of the pack would attend so it will be easier to get the gem.”
Alpha Ronald considered her words before nodding with approval. If she left early, then, she would probably return early. That way, his heavy heart would quickly be settled.
He sighed before saying, “Kline, Luke, and Turin will be going with you to the Pack. I hope you listen to them and don’t do things alone by yourself.”
Cassie instantly frowned. She had thought she was going alone. Although those three were formidable fighters, she didn’t want to be in a team. She wasn’t used to it so it felt strange to her.
She wanted to decline but the Alpha was faster than her.
He immediately shook his head and said, “No. You’re not going alone.”
Cassie looked at her father’s determined expression before sighing in defeat and said gently, “Okay.”
“Good. You go prepare. I’ll notify your partners about our decision.”
Cassie nodded. “Okay.”
Then, she stood up and turned to leave the office. She stepped out and closed the door behind her.
Alpha Ronald looked at the door that was closed, brooding.
He wasn’t willing to send his daughter off like that. But, it was what she wanted and he could break her will.
Then, he remembered that he had told the elders to await his decision.
He leaned back into his chair and opened up the mind link, informing the elders and the betas of the decision.
Cassie adjusted the duffel bag slung across her shoulder and looked at her father who was standing across from her. He had insisted on accompanying them to the outskirts of the Stone Creek Pack.
He looked at her hand which was holding the strap of the bag before he turned to look at the three men behind her.
He pursed his lips and said for the nth time that day, “You all should be careful. You hear me?”
The three betas nodded in understanding while Cassie shook her head helpless against her father’s actions. She said with a tone of finality, “You should return. It won’t be good if someone notices you have left the boundaries of the pack.”
Cassie’s mission was not made public. Only a few members of the pack knew about it. Although all the pack members were aware of the Thryst Seed, the only people aware of the progress of the search for it were the members of the board.
Alpha Ronald looked at his daughter’s stern expression and nodded in understanding.
He knew it wouldn’t be good if he trespassed into other territories.
But, he didn’t want to part yet. He looked at Cassie’s rosy face and thought that it might have been the last time he was going to see her.
But, he knew he had to strengthen his resolve and let her go.
So, he stepped back and returned to the pack without looking back.
Cassie and the others watched him leave with mixed expressions on their faces. And when his figure fully retreated and he couldn’t be seen anymore, the four of them turned to look at each other.
Cassie cleared her throat and said to the men, “We should go now.”
The men nodded and everyone tacitly understood her words. Cassie retreated behind a tree and transformed into her wolf.
It was a brown-colored wolf as huge as a bear. Although Cassie was a hybrid, she surprisingly had a wolf and she had both werewolf and vampire abilities.
After Cassie transformed, she picked up the duffel bag which had slid off her body with her mouth, and her clothes which she had already pulled off. Then, she walked out from behind the tree.
Three large wolves stood across her and we were looking at her intently. She was familiar with all of them as they were her partners.
Cassie approached the other wolves and gave a loud howl. The wolves seemed to understand what she meant and they gave several howls of their own.
Afterward, Cassie's wolf turned and began to sprint through the fields that led to the territories of the Crescent Moon Pack. The other three instantly followed.
So, in the night, four colorful figures sprinted through the fields and farms, their colors evident due to the bright moon which had begun to emerge.
