It was daybreak when Cassie and the three betas arrived at the boundaries of the Crescent Moon Pack. Werewolves have a particular scent that belonged to them and a pack had a scent that signified who they were. So, the moment Cassie and the betas stepped through the territory of the Crescent Moon Pack, they immediately knew they were where they were going.
They evolved back into their human forms and wore their clothes. Afterward, they stepped into the crowds of people doing their things in the city. It was crowded and everyone was busy minding their own business. If it were another pack, Cassie and the others would have been easily detected due to the scent on them.
But, the Crescent Moon Pack was a very large one and there were even rogues living amongst them. So, it was no surprise to see a noob walking in the streets.
As they walked past a rice farm, Cassie turned to look at the others. “They’re holding a coming-of-age ceremony today so there will be less security. From the sources we have, the gem is in the main pack where the alpha lives.”
Turin nodded. “That shouldn’t be hard to find. But, how do we know which of the rooms or where exactly the gem is?”
Cassie nodded, rubbing her chin in thought too. “That’s right. If not because the main pack is heavily guarded, Will could have gotten us the full map of the area.”
“He said he has only entered the main pack once and he had to go through a check because he was mixed race. There wasn’t enough time for him to look for the gem.” Luke added.
“What do we do then?”
Then, Kline who hadn’t spoken at all chimed in, “Today is a festive day so the doors would probably break to everyone. We should split up and find the room that the gem is housed in. It would be easier that way.”
The other three looked at him for one moment as they deliberated over his words.
In the bed, Cassie nodded in approval and said, “Okay. Let’s do it that way.”
It was thus decided that way.
The four of them entered the crowd of people heading toward the main pack and as they walked, they gathered more information.
The moment they entered and split up, Cassie sent a message to all of them through the mind link.
“We only have two hours left before the end of the ceremony. Let’s hurry up. All of you make sure to be careful. We’ll meet at the entrance of the pack.”
The other three gave a reply that showed they understood and the mind link was cut off.
When Cassie came out of the crowd, she saw that she was standing in front of a large mansion. However, this mansion was not built the normal way.
There was a long hallway that stretched to the back of the house.
Cassie narrowed her gaze. There were very few people in the place and her actions would be easily noticed. So, she folded the duffel bag into a purse and held it in her right arm. She loosened the hair band used to pack up her hair and let it fall behind her back.
After these tweaks to her dressing, there was a transformation in the way she looked. She looked more like she was also attending the coming-of-age ceremony.
She walked to the door hallway and stepped in. There were quite a lot of rooms lined in the mansion and it was clear that it was a packed house. As she walked, she noticed that most of the rooms were empty, and in the only few ones that were not, only a few people were talking.
She walked around the hallway for a while but she couldn’t find anything tangible. She was about to turn around and leave when she noticed a room in the farthest corner of the hallway. The room stood alone and there were no others attached.
Cassie walked over to the room curiously. It had a small window by the edge. The window was so small that Cassie couldn’t help but wonder if their air was entering the room at all.
She walked to the window. It was not locked but it was closed. There was only a tiny space enough for her to peer in. She couldn’t open the window and look in in case someone was inside.
She moved closer and carefully peered in. But, the room was dark, and only the dim light coming from the window where she was standing illuminated the place. She was standing in that spot. So, there was only a tiny ray of light getting in.
Cassie shook her head.
Would they keep something so precious in such a place?
She took a step forward and made to leave the place. But as she took two steps forward, she felt a strange feeling. Something was drawing her curiosity toward that place.
Cassie turned to look at the small room again before giving in to her curiosity and walking to the door.
She turned the knob of the room and quietly slipped in. No one noticed her actions at all.
As Cassie entered the room, it was all dark she could see at first. In the dark, her senses were heightened and she was more alert.
Her eyes finally adjusted to the surroundings and she could see where she was.
The room was not what she expected it to be. It was as though she had entered a refuse dump.
She clicked her tongue, derisively. What exactly was she thinking hoping this was the place she was looking for? Would anyone in their right mind hide an eternal gem in such a dilapidated place?
She was about to turn around when her gaze caught a sharp colorful light amongst the dumps. Cassie’s gaze constricted.
She hurriedly walked over to the place and reached out to dig what was shining so brightly out. She had a feeling it was what she was looking for.
She remembered the clues they were given before they set off.
The gem was round and small. But it was very shiny and the color was blue.
She dug it out of the ground and indeed when she opened her palm, she saw the small blue-colored shiny gem lying in her hand.
Cassie was puzzled. Was it so easy to find the gem? Moreover, why didn’t the people of the Crescent Moon Pack hide the gem somewhere more hidden, and it was brought into such a place?
She was still mulling over this when she heard the sound of footsteps. The footsteps were heavy and hurried. It was clear that there were a lot of people coming.
It was odd because the place looked deserted and quiet when she entered earlier. She instantly wanted to hide.
At that moment, she heard a male voice bark loudly, “Break down the door. There is an intruder!”
