Chapter 18 Hunter stared at the huge double doors and their twin brass lion’s-head knockers. He got right up to them, studying the grain of the wood and trailing his finger down the separation between the doors. The doorknob was cold when he gripped it. He dropped his hand and shoved it back into his coat pocket. The wind howled. He could not go inside. Just being this close had set his heart to pounding and nearly stolen his breath away. He turned away from the doors, looking out at the snow-covered lawn and trees beyond. The moon made the snow glitter. Tomorrow. I can come back tomorrow…when it’s light out, and I’m ready.
