Hunter tossed restlessly in his bed, the heavy down comforter and flannel sheets wrapped around him, twisted and constraining. He kicked at them, sighing and grumbling in his slumber. He came full awake when he heard a loud bang from downstairs. He sat up suddenly, wide awake. He knew immediately what the sound was. The windows downstairs in the living room had blown open, their metal casings banging against the mahogany paneling with the force of the wind. And that wind screeched, racing through the house, already chilling him. He struggled beneath the blankets, trying to free himself, moaning softly in the silvery darkness.
