Jackson walked slowly and cautiously in the direction that Sapphire pointed him in, it seemed like he was walking forever until suddenly he saw something. He jogged to the person that was tied to a tree. He knelt down by the person, seeing that it was Dominic, and pressed his fingers against Dominic's neck; he just had a pulse.
Jackson took his knife out of his pocket and cut the rope, slung Dominic over his shoulder and started to walk back till his path was blocked by Abaddon.
He wasn't in human form this time; he was in a terrifying looking form. He was like a blackish gray sort of colour with smoke coming of him like he came straight from burning in hell to earth. He had horns coming out of his head, which much have been four inches long; they were sharp had curls going round themselves. Jackson noticed the claws on his hands and his feet and then the tail; it was a long tail that tapered into a cross sort of shape where it finished.
Abaddon smirked. “Well, well. I expected Sapphire to be here wanting to save him. But she let you come and get him just because you said so - now that is trust, loyalty and stupidity.”
“Not really, it shows that he trusts me and I trust him.” Both Abaddon and Jackson turned around; seeing Sapphire they stared in shock.
“Where did you come from! I scanned the place and you were nowhere near around!” Abaddon shouted, annoyed with himself and that she could get the better of him.
Sapphire grinned wildly. “Someone is a little touchy, aren't they? Is it because I killed, err, what were they called? Mammon and Carson. That's it,” mocking Abaddon then smirking as Abaddon started frowning.
“You...You killed them? That is impossible, they are immortal, nothing in the world can kill them.” Abaddon was getting unsettled, shuffling from one foot to the other.
Sapphire and Jackson chuckled and this time Jackson spoke. “Vampires are immortal too yet we kill them, demons used to be very hard to kill but now it is as easy as killing Rugarus, vampires, werewolves, ghosts. Hey, I actually think that ghosts are harder to kill than demons now.”
Abaddon snarled, “Don't mock me, boy! You do not know who you are messing with. I am the King of Hell, I can make sure you are running for the rest of your measly little life and as for your stupid little blades, I personally made sure that we couldn't be killed by blades or guns.”
Sapphire shrugged, walking closer to him. “Yeah, well, we have evolved loads since then, we have invented things and I decided to make it my job to invent a knife that kills you ghastly lot and look, I did it.” Sapphire held up her bloody blade, some blood already drying but at the tip it still dripped.
Abaddon stared, horrified at how a knife could kill his creation. “No way, that isn't their blood, that could be anyone's blood.”
Jackson rolled his eyes, getting impatient. “Where are they then? If you go south west their guts will be laid out for you. Sapphire, why are we talking to him? Why can't we just kill him?”
Sapphire looked at her brother. “I'm trying to figure out whether to tie him up and get things out of him or just to slaughter him like his lot slaughtered our family and other people’s families. Who knows, I haven't decided yet. What do you think, brother?”
Abaddon backed away slightly, Jackson looking at him. “Well, I think we should just slaughter him, you see if we take time on him he might think we care or want something and we really don't need anything from him because we are so good we can find anything else without his poxy little help.”
Sapphire shrugged. “Sounds fair to me.” Sapphire appeared behind Abaddon, grabbing his arms behind his back holding them tight. She closed her eyes, bringing everything within her together, she felt herself becoming stronger, she felt her werewolf working together with the vampire and the demon.
As Sapphire held Abaddon tight he said, “You can't hold or kill me,” but as he tried to struggle out of Sapphire's grip he couldn't move, he couldn't get out of it; he tried using his tail to trip her up but she had such a strong stance she wouldn't budge.
“What are you?” he questions as Sapphire nodded to Jackson as confirmation to show that she was ready.
Jackson twirled his knife in his hand then held it tight and stabbed it right in his chest, right between his ribs. Abaddon looked in shock at Jackson as he felt death coming to him again. He mumbled, “How is this possible?” then his body splashed down in a puddle of black, sticky, smelly gush.
Jackson stared at Sapphire for a bit then said, “You kept him still, he didn't get out of your grip, how come? I mean, I know that you are strong and everything but holding the King of Hell down is something else altogether.”
Sapphire’s eyes were half ruby half emerald colour with her sclera black. The ruby to represent vampire, the emerald for here werewolf and the black to represent the demon. She refused to look at demon so he wouldn’t see her eyes. she walked to pick Dominic up from the ground and putting him gently over her shoulder. “Jackson, to do what I did I had to pull together all of my strength. That means the demon’s, the Werewolf’s and the vampire’s strength to hold him still. I mean, put all of them together and I am impossible to budge. “
Jackson nodded, then managed to get a glance of her eyes. “I should have realised that, I am sorry. I mean, I am still getting used to you being one of them, I mean three of them.”
Sapphire felt anger wash through her she spat through her teeth, “I am not one of them, I do not kill humans! They kill and possess, I do not! I still kill demons, vampires and werewolves.” Then she walked off back to the car, following the trail back, Jackson walking behind her silently. The track was easy to follow so Sapphire didn't have to use her senses. Once at the car Sapphire gently laid Dominic in the back seat and said, softly touching his face, “You will be OK, don't worry, I won't let this happen to you again. I promise.” Then she got in the driver's seat.
Jackson looked at her, she looks back a bit knowing that he is probably staring at the different colours of her eyes then finally said, frustrated, “What? Look, I know it's hard to get your head around but please stop staring at me.”
Jackson said, totally off subject, “You like him, don't you? I mean really like him?” Sapphire looked at the road, not saying anything, started the engine up and drove off and with Sapphire's silence he said, surprised, “Oh my god, you do. But you don't just like him, you love him.”
After a few minutes of silence, she admitted, “Yes, Jackson, I think I do, ok? The difference is I let him down, I went to save you and didn't keep an eye on him, I was too busy concentrating on you. I was being selfish and look what happened to him. Plus, as you keep reminding me, I am something that we all hunt. How do I know that I won't get home and you tell Leo what I am and he grabs a stake, a bible and a gun with silver bullets and kills me? Then I would never be able to tell Dominic what I actually think about him.”
Jackson looked at Sapphire, never hearing her speak the way she was about a boy. It took him by surprise but what surprised him more was that she thought that Leo could actually kill her. “How could you even think that Leo could kill you? You are our only sister, we love you unconditionally no matter what you are, as long as you don't kill which you said you haven't so we have no reason to kill you, we only kill evil, you know that and so does he.”
As Sapphire was driving she turned to look at Jackson, not looking at the road but got every turn right. “Jackson, you didn't even hear what he said to me. It was awful, the things that he said, he hates me! I swear that he wants me dead.”
“Don't be so ridiculous!” Jackson said, startled. “He would never want that! Not in a million years, he wouldn't know what to do if you died.”
Sapphire looked at the road again, gripping the wheel tighter. “He shot me, Jackson, and I would be dead if it wasn't for me being supernatural, he didn't even hesitate to think, he just did it! He wouldn't even notice if I was dead, I could have died last month and neither of you would have known unless it was posted all over the news because you never keep the same number for more than three months.”
As Sapphire parked up into her driveway and got out, lifting Dominic out, Jackson stayed in the car thinking for a moment and the front door swung open as soon as the car parked up. Leo said, “That better not be Jackson!”
“Jackson's in the car, I told him to call you when we went to rescue Dominic – not my fault he didn't, is it? Oh, and by the way my blade saved Jackson's and Dominic's lives so I'd like an apology when you finally see Jackson is alright,” she said, poison in every word. Then she carried Dominic into the living room. She suddenly heard a scream and looked over to see her roommate, Grace.
Grace stuttered her words out, “Oh my... What happened? You have hardly been here since all these men have come and just before all of you were gone so long and your brother goes on about killing things, and then you bring a dead body home! I can't be here anymore, I...I am going to move out, right now.”
Sapphire thought about stopping her but knowing it was best and safer for Grace if she did leave, Sapphire sighed deeply then laid Dominic on the sofa and saw to his wounds as he rested.
Whilst Sapphire was in the house seeing to Dominic, Leo ran to the passenger door of the car and opened it, blurting out all at once, “Jackson, you’re back! I actually didn't think that she would get you back, like come home without you saying that you were dead or something I wouldn't know what I'd do if you died. I was losing my marbles! Why didn't you call when you could?”
Jackson got out, looking at Leo as if he didn’t recognise him. “I was a bit preoccupied, finding out a bit about our sister and finding Dominic. I also heard you were being horrible to Sapphire when she came to tell you about her knife? I mean, how could you, Leo? She has created a weapon that will help us kill demons or anything else except ghosts and you call her worse than shit.”
Leo stared at him in shock. “You go missing and when you come home you want to argue about something I said to her! She let you get taken and you’re having a go at me? What the hell is wrong with you?”
“I was having a heart to heart with our sister and I found out some things about her that I thought would not be possible. While you’re being rude to her I am finding out things that we would never have known. She kept it so long from us and she has been through so much trying to be good,” Jackson admitted, sigh softly as he should have been there for her trying to help her, he should have went after her, not let Leo say she chose her own route.
Leo frowned. “What do you mean? Trying to be good? Is she a monster? I knew it, I knew she was. I am going to kill her.”
Jackson looked horrified. “Oh my god. Sapphire was right about you; you actually want her dead! You didn't even ask what she was, you just said ‘I'll kill her’. You are talking about your sister; you know? You are meant to find out if there is way to help her before you threaten her. God, no wonder she didn't tell us.” Jackson stormed inside to find out how Dominic was doing.
“Don't be so obscure, I would never want that of my sister!” Leo replied defensively, but deep inside he knew that they were both right. Everything was so much better without his sister. He didn't even understand why they came here in the first place. She can handle herself as we have seen and she has this Dominic person to look out for her. Why did we have to come? That was when the answer drew out of his subconscious. Jackson missed her, he always talked about her, what she would approve and not approve, how sensible she was, and lucky that she got out when she could. Jackson had even said once maybe they should go visit her, see how she was. Leo remembered his reply that night was, “Danger follows us everywhere, Jackson. Sapphire wanted to get away from this, if we go visit her we will bring it all back to her, the thing she wanted to escape from.” After that memory Leo was once again aware of his surroundings. He walked inside after Jackson, Sapphire and Dominic.
Jackson found Sapphire nursing Dominic and saw the worry in her face. “Sapphire, is there anything I can do? I mean, does he need anything that you don't have or anything?”
Without even looking up, Sapphire said, “I've got everything I need thanks, but you could keep pressure on this wound for me, he needs stitches so I need to make sure the needle is sterilised and get everything ready.”
Jackson moved quickly next to his sister, moving his hand to cover hers over Dominic's wounds. Sapphire slid her hand away then Jackson added pressure onto the wound as Sapphire threaded the needle, then she sighed. “Seems like I'm going to have to do this the old fashioned way.” She ran into the kitchen, getting a bowl and a bottle of alcohol. She poured some into a bowl, put the needle in the bowl to sterilise and handed the bottle to Jackson. “Pour some over the wound to make sure it isn't infected; we don't know how long the wound has been open.”
Leo suddenly entered the room, furious. “What is she then, Jackson? Come on, tell me!”
Jackson looked over at Leo. “This isn't the time nor the place, can't you see we are both a bit busy?” As he spoke he removed the pressure pad and poured some alcohol over the wound. Jackson and Leo suddenly jumped out of their skin. Sapphire turned to Dominic, looking a little startled as when Jackson poured the alcohol over the wound Dominic woke up, screaming in agonising pain.
Leo replied, still furious, “I don't give a rat’s ass if you are busy, what is our beloved sister, eh? Why shouldn't I kill her right now?”
Jackson ignored his brother and looked at Sapphire, who makes a little time to give Leo a hard glare before she grabbed her first aid bag, opening a couple of zips and grabbing a syringe. She opened the contents, taking the protective cover off the needle. Sapphire gently took Dominic's arm, then looked at him reassuringly as he looked up at her with terror in his eyes. She touched his face. “Everything will be OK. Jackson and I have everything under control.” Then she injected him with the morphine. She worked fast, taking the pressure pad off the wound and pouring a little more alcohol over it, then she started stitching the wound up neatly, putting a bandage on afterwards. She sat by him, not leaving his side for a single second.
Leo looked at everyone so angry, if Sapphire was a monster then why the hell is Jackson helping her? “Great, now that is sorted, you can answer my bloody question! What is Sapphire?” Jackson and Sapphire glanced at each other and Sapphire shrugged half-heartedly.
Jackson looked at Leo. “Let's go in the kitchen, let Dominic rest.” He walked into the kitchen, Leo walking right behind him. Jackson shut the door behind them and sat down, gesturing to Leo to do the same, which he did. Leo just looked at Jackson waiting for his answer. “Sapphire is a Vamon-Wolf, or a Demire-Wolf, whatever it is that she calls herself.”
Leo just sat and stared back at Jackson, trying to understand what the hell he was going on about. What could a demire-wolf be? That was nothing that they had come across, that was for sure, but all he knew was that she was dangerous and could not live anymore. She probably has Jackson under some kind of spell that is why he doesn’t want her dead. Instead, he asks, “A Demire-wolf? What the hell is that when it's at home?”
